This score is so classic. The Main Theme especially. Mr. Budd was highly and truly underrated. Thank you for uploading 🙂

“The Final Option”, a.k.a. “Who Dares Wins” (1982) is an action-thriller about the works of the British Special Air Service (SAS). In this adventure a terroristic group is being observed by the SAS but it comes differently than planned and (political) hostages are being made and have to be rescued in order to prevent the dangerous group to go on with their plans…
Roy Budd, famously known for his talent of bringing orchestral colors together with modern elements, composed the score for this journey. He is rocking, while he also masters quieter and emotional passages with commitment. To help giving the score a very contemporary touch, the composer-duo Jerry and Marc Donahue was asked to provide a few pieces, of which two of them can be heard here, as well, although one must admit that Budd’s score is hitting the nail (as usual) and he provided everything that is needed: A very cool soundtrack. Enjoy!

Looks like an interesting film. Admittedly, the score out of context is something else. Roy Budd left us way too early. Lots of fun this one. Thanks Fred!

Interesting, very diversified score by Roy Budd with some inventive sound design and really "cool" musical background for men in black storming an embassy full of terrorists. Way back then I enjoyed Who Dares Wins because of the involvement of the SAS (something new at the time) and Lewis Collins who just had finished his work as Bodie on The Professionals. Like his adventures as part of CI5 (together with Martin Shaw as Doyle und Gordon Jackson as Cowley) the theme, the politics and the cinematic realization of WDW are deeply rooted in the early 80ies and the film has to be viewed with that in mind. The cast is solid, so are the production values for a non Hollywood action fest on its level. It's absolutely no classic but at least it could (and should) have been a good starting point for better things to come for Collins. Unfortunately, his once promising career in cinema never really surpassed this middling effort. For Roy Budd on the other hand this was just another colorful mosaic stone in a highly prolific film music career which ended way to early when he died in 1993 at the age of 46. Nice suite.
