It’s great. Definitely rewards patience, perseverance & ingenuity. Too many seem to be giving up early and writing the game off unfairly.

This game definitely bodes well for 2D Zelda. It has versatile abilites while keeping the old dungeon format that people wanted. For the next time around, I'd like to see Grezzo not play it so safe with the setting. Create a set-up that's as unique as Link's Awakening and Majora's Mask again.

In the end, it did the thing all great Zelda games do. Leave me with a huge sense of accomplishment and emotional satisfaction because I cared about the world I just saved. Puzzles in the second half were great.

The smoothie mechanic is honestly my biggest complaint about the game. It is way too prominent as a reward for everything from puzzles to combat, for a mechanic I used once after the halfway point of the game. It made completing certain puzzles especially discouraging cause I already had double digits of electro apples anyway. I’m glad to hear someone else bring that up!
That being said, I loved the game. I’d give it a solid 9/10. I understand your critique of the characters, but personally I just love the feeling of existing in a populated world where everyone feels the stakes and is engaged with the plot (it’s part of why I preferred TotK to botw). I was surprised by how much I loved tri as a character too (she really resonated with me personally as an autistic person). I didn’t find myself relying much on beds which made the puzzles super fun with the echoes. I really wasn’t sure what to expect from this since link’s awakening is the only other top down Zelda I’ve played, but I absolutely adored this game.

I’ve just completed it and loved it! 2D Zelda being more puzzle heavy and 3D Zelda being more open seems like a good compromise, people need to calm down about the frame drops as well they are minimal af I barely even noticed. This game was charming as hell and I feel it does a good job encouraging you not to just use the same 5-10 echoes all the time.
I will agree that the echo selecting is clunky and placing the echoes can be a bit janky sometimes but the world feels lived in and some of the side quests (slumber dojo for example) are great fun.
Do more reviews Nintendo Forecast (starting with Advance Wars of course 😁)

I 100%ed it a few days ago. It definitely has a few issues that bothered me (the biggest being the performance dips, navigating the echoes menu, and most echoes being irrelevant). But other than that, I absolutely loved the game and am glad I bought/played it.

wait that's crazy, I loved Tri's story! I felt the vibe early and understood they were doing it explicitly around the halfway point, and I was actually super sad that the ending involved him and Zelda parting ways forever...

It’s overall great but not a masterpiece imo. I’d love to see better UI for the echos themselves but after cycling the sorting of the lists it’s doable. I love the map, music, and puzzle focused gameplay. Great review by the way!

Game was very enjoyable and I loved it. However, I wished there was more of a challenge. Heroic felt like a last minute addition that lost all meaning with beds. That said, it's a wonderful sandbox and offers a lot of replayability for those interested in challenge runs with an enjoyable one off experience for most others.

I also felt the blur was weird, but for diferent reasons. The blur was there in LA remake because it was a dream, so whether you liked it or not, you can't deny it fit perfectly woth that game, however that isn't the case in the new game (at least not for now, I haven't finished it, but it doesn't seem like it) and it doesn't make much sense IMO

For me, this game would be absolutely PERFECT, if not for the convoluted echo management system, and the inconsistent framerate. Otherwise, the story was excellent, the gameplay was super fun, and the dungeons were some of the absolute BEST in the series! I give it a 9/10. If they update it for Switch 2 and give it a locked 60fps, then I'll give it a 9.5/10. If they somehow gave us a better way to organize and swap between echoes, then I'd give it a full 10/10!

good stuff! I loved Echoes, the main thing that bothered me happened to be the performance, was a first for me too as i usually don't mind 30fps games, but something about the constant fluctuations in frame rate messed with my brain. apart from that a fantastic game.

I have pretty much 100%ed the game now and all that's left is the final area. So far, the game is very fun and it taps into that TOTK style puzzle solving. Because you have ways to gain height, you can bypass so many obstacles by just using a spider or the water block. It was just fun trying to explore and get to areas I am not meant to. MY biggest criticism is the performance. The game pretty much chugs everytime Zelda is moving in the overworld. It's fine to overlook because you don't need timing at all but it is very noticeable all the way through the game. One instance, the game feels smooth to control, the next Zelda is slogging through molasses. This belongs in the " I hope Next gen can run this game at locked 60" camp.

Side scrolling is part of top down Zelda DNA. It’s not just Link’s Awakening and Zelda 2, the first game had segments, and the Oracles have them too. It’s staple of the style.

I have the exact opposite opinion, Hebra mountain was incredibly empty, easy and lazy. Like they ran out of time. There is a slightly nontrivial part in the dungeon, but the rest is super easy and linear.

Haven't beaten it yet(in the 5th dungeon )but its good. Solid. My favorite parts are when im link but that disappears quickly lol.
The performance dip has barely affected me.(Im on a new OLED, in hh mode only so far and ive noticed it maybe once or twice)
The echoes are frustrating sometimes because i target the enemy and they dont always attack them. If the fixed that, it would feel so much better

The frame rate reports remind me of my recent experience with Bayonetta 3, which was similarly criticized on launch.
After finishing the game for the second time I’m still wondering where exactly did I ever experience those reportedly horrible, frame dips.
I fully understand that some people are very sensitive to frame rates but I’ve equally grown to usually ignore such concerns, particularly where I see reviews that are very vocal on this issue.

    • @goldmemberpb
      @goldmemberpb 4 дні тому

Are used to playing games at 60 fps all the time? if not, then you are most likely fine with fluctuating or lower framerate. With action heavy game like Bayo, fps dips would bother me quite a bit because that's directly affecting how well I can do combos.

    • @cookeecutkk
      @cookeecutkk 4 дні тому

@@goldmemberpb I agree to the perception issue though I had no trouble pulling combos in the game.
Again it’s a personal issue which is fully understandable.
What I’m opposed to is many reviews in which they often dismiss a game based on a perceptual issue that’s - personally - affecting the reviewer and that might not be a problem at all for other people (like me).
I.e. state your opinion but don’t dismiss outright.

I think my phone's lagging when it drops to 60hz from 120hz, I don't know how people can't even notice the terrible frame drops that plague the Switch, I get people coping about it not bothering them but not noticing?

I really liked the game. I think it needed better “level” design and the “classic” dungeons really didn’t do it for me, they were pretty bland. I liked totk’s dungeons better.

It is a good game. I liked the how this is structurally classical Zelda game but puzzles are open puzzles. Bosses are really good. But it is one of the weakest 2d Zelda games.
    - Horrible performance.
    - Control scheme and echo slider ruins the game. I am not sure how they were okay with it. Did't they play the game? There are still 3 empty button in controller.
    - Puzzles are way too easy. Walk room to room in dungeon. Lots of rooms are literally empty or have brain dead easy puzzle. Classical kill all the enemies in room to open the door. Nintendo said dungeons are massive but even if you add still world part, they are quite small. I only enjoyed lanayru temple. That one was really good. Side scrolling parts and still world stuff are way too repetitive.
    - This is personal. I find art style and writing too childish. It is possible to make a story for children and appealing to adults at the same time.
I would be great if they could do better controls and dungeons. I could live with this performance, art style and writing.

Thank you, yes. 2d Zelda is my favorite franchise of all time, hands down, but I'm so unimpressed by the "challenge" this game presents. I don't think there was a single time I came across a puzzle in this game and didn't know exactly how to solve it after looking at it for 10 seconds. Between that and the multiple warp points in each dungeon, there's no more of that incredible feeling of just sitting there roaming the dungeon as you pick your brain on how to continue.
