i absolutely agree with that, i cant enjoy a story if character development is written badly. also i loved the "be greater" "be yourself" you got into the script. super nice job keep it up
See The original game was like an 11/10 for me This game, only because of the length is a 10/10 for me. It didn't leave me starstruck like the original but man was it a fun time and I really enjoyed the story and characters.
@@DioStandProud yeah I can definitely get behind that, but I just thought that the smaller scale of the whole game made it a more charming, personal and intimate story, so I felt more connected to it. I think Spiderman PS4 did a great job of showing the human and flawed side to Peter but Miles Morales showed it even more and better, and I usually prefer superhero stories that focus pretty much solely on the personal element rather than the external conflict, like fighting loads of villains
Spider-Man PS4’s motto was “be greater.” Peter felt he had to be better at juggling both his life as Peter and his life as Spider-Man. Miles morales on the other hand has the motto “be yourself” because he struggles with basically the opposite: how he can still be himself while being this superhero figure everyone needs him to be. This game was so amazing, I absolutely can’t wait for Spider-Man 2
I don’t think this matches the first game in overall quality, however it works perfectly as a smaller side game to build characters in the overall story. I also still like Peter more than Miles, I don’t know whether it’s because Peter is the original or because Yuri doesn’t put on a stupid voice, but I figured I’d put that out there.
I agree 100% Miles is a more family-oriented spider man that is made stronger by the people around him while Peter was built off the loss of uncle ben and used some of his final words to become the hero he is and isolates his two identities as spider man and peter parker to serve both of their responsibilities individually. Amazing video James.
Should have spoke about the black teen s exaggerated swagger james😂, ik too many people are commenting this, just had to, great vid mate, keep up the good work🙌
Hopes for the sequel: An interesting open world with organic flow into side missions ala red dead 2 or something like the Witcher 3. I'm not asking for the number of interesting side quests to be on par with the ones I mentioned, but the few that do make it into the game need to be more memorable, because I'm well aware of how resource devouring the mainline story with all its mocap acting and setpieces can be. More interesting open world minutiae. Better and more indepth crime scenarios. More interesting combat moves and gadgets, something along the lines of the ratchet and clank games. I think this'll be easier to do considering they've set up for the symbiote to be taking centre stage in the next game and that should provide story reasons for more innovative and flashier gameplay. As much as i liked the story from the first game a lot of it was rather forgettable, the stuff that wasn't were the amazing setpieces and the pivotal story moments with some of the characters, so I'm hoping they don't hold back in letting the sequel take a dark turn with the symbiote. I'm skeptical of this though because of something the creative director said about not wanting to make the first game too dark, dont remember what exactly it was. Oh, and being able to switch between miles and peter seems like a given at this point. Can't wait for the sequel!
Good narrative is key to a good game! Puts all the other pieces in place and keeps everything in check! Man 2020 was a good year, TLOU2, Ghost, and Spiderman MM, damn! I love how you manage to put light on and explain the deep cores of these games, great video, as always!👌
Maybe not a good year for civilization but when it came to games, absolutely And TLOU p2 gets way too much hate, every time I play that game, I keep asking myself “am I playing the same game?”
I remember first seeing the release and absolutely hating the title, because it sounded so stupid, but now I see it reflects the game perfectly. Spider-Man in this game isn’t just Spider-Man or the Ultimate Spider-Man it’s very much Miles Morales’ Spider-Man. All the decisions Miles makes in this game are very much his own by the end and some may even differ to the decisions that Peter would make. It’s the perfect balance between Miles and Spider-Man - although they are two different figures, they are still very much of the same mind and identity
That’s the shit I love to hear. I have no connection to that culture but it had me grinning all the same. It’s that strong sense of bond and community that makes Spider-Man, Spider-Man.
Loved the game and the review. My only real complaint with this game is how the story felt very similar to the first." Spider-man has to face a new criminal organization who aims to tear down the public image of the mega-corporation whose creation makes people sick. The leader of the criminal group is a close friend to the protagonist who has their own personal vendetta to the CEO of the cooperation. The cooperation has also hired a mercenary to deal with the group and the protagonist but in the end helps him". It all felt very similar and what saved the game for me was Miles and his relationship with the people of Harlem.
Sure but still... where on earth did he get the time to do that? Moving all the tech, reprogramming, recording the voice lines, creating the animations for the holograms. I know it’s “just a game” but also... it seems wildly inconsistent with the peter we’ve come to know.
cool video james but on an unrelated note there is a pretty sweet deal on ac syndicate gold edition for 749 rupees, so around 10 dollars should i buy the game, i only recently started getting into ac lore and games so please share your thoughts.
My cousin and uncle said spider man ps4 remastered and miles morales have terrible graphic us and looks like spider man games on the 360 and I play on fidelity mode on ps5,what bozos
I didn’t play this game because I hate miles and find him to be a pointless character as I have read the comics and I wasn’t just introduced to him in spider verse like most people
I thought it was pretty good for a smaller game. The only issue I had was the cringy/shitty blm mural they gave us a reward, the suit it came with was cool though I just wish it didn't come with the in your face activism. Also fantastic video as always James.
Disagree. If you play the remaster and have an open mind, feels like this was always how he looked. I honestly prefer it after getting attached through that original story again.
@@LazerzZ The line between opinion and fact becomes blurred? Perhaps. I intended that statement as a matter of fact, not subjective perception. Were it just me who thought he looks too young, I would think more on it, but that is not the case. Of course, even popular opinion can nowadays be discredited, but alas...
@@LazerzZ @LazerzZ I wasn't. It's just that you said to keep an open mind, and that would help in case I didn't like his new appearance, but that's not what I meant. I just echoed the sentiment of everyone who's been playing as an "older and more experienced Spider-Man". Surely, nothing in business is done at random, or for reason's such as that "this version of Peter better fits the voice actor's appearance"(keep in mind that Yuri Lowenthal is hardly in his teens). So, even if I did have to keep an open mind, why would I appreciate a decision that was clearly made without any consideration given to the original fans of the game, and for which the official explanation was so blatantly PR-speakish that it doesn't even sound good on paper, let alone spoken loudly?
@@fumbleweeddumblecock2360 this entire paragraph is barely relevant to your original “matter of fact” assertion. You said he looks 12. James said he disagrees, and prefers it. Then you said “this isn’t a matter of opinion, it’s fact” and you back that up with some supposed popular consensus. Then when James points out that you’re being silly, you completely derail the conversation into a discussion about the corporate decision to change the face rather than your original “objective truth” about how young you think the face looks. Why even bring it up? Doesn’t seem remotely relevant to you telling someone their opinion of a face model isn’t factually correct.
The point is that, while they have the same powers, they’re their own super hero’s and their own people. That’s king of a huge point made in the video and the game itself.

Something about this story just hit me harder than the first game, absolutely fantastic and cements my love for Miles as a character.
