    I love this move, I already do lateral drops from over under when my opponent sags his hips away. I've never tried this spinning version but I'll have to drill it some. When you get a Russian tie in Judo you must attack very soon to avoid a stalling call, so this might end up being a big part of my game thanks!

      @@stevenking7532 the entire 2 on 1 system gives BJJ practitioner problems. There's so many options there's really no way to stop it, especially with the Gi on. I've even used the Russian in closed guard to post escape and it works really well.

    Wow....I've finally found a reason to not completely despise the Russian. The only reason I ever used a Russian was to get to that underhook(or stall), but that looks pretty damn slick.
    (Of course....the guy in the video makes everything look pretty fucking slick).

    • @SolidQuack
      @SolidQuack 5 років тому +2

      Why despise the Russian? I've set up quite few takedowns. Lat spiral if they attack the wrist, post to double if they attack the should, key-lock and pass them by if they push in, single leg if they try to spin out...
      Sorry you didn't see the versatility of the position.
      P.s... everyone I've ever seen talk shit about the Russian just had terrible head positioning. 🙂

    • @isaacsechslingloff1006

      There is an arm throw and lateral throw from the Russian if you bend the opponents trapped arm inward or upward and switch grips with your hand closest to your opponent over the crook of his trapped arm into/onto the crook/bicep of your far arm for an Americana type lock. From here bending the arm downward and stepping in front and using a duck under type motion sets up an arm throw (into a kimura if in BJJ/MMA/catch wrestling context) or a lateral throw from a simply stepping in front and swinging the momentum that way (into an Americana).
      Additionally you can set up a duck under takedown if the opponent posts with their opposite hand by reaching over his posting hands elbow with the near side arm and potentially either switching your side, getting a rear clinch or entering a merkel ride.

    I'm a white belt in BJJ but my wrestling, particularly the 2 on 1 gives every single brown and black belt I've stood up with huge problems (obviously they eat me alive on the ground) there are so many options once you have the Russian locked up. The first time I just shuck to the ground and take the back and once they're wise to that I find it real easy to set up any other technique like this one, the fireman's, side suplex, far side arm throw, close side single leg, then just go back to shuck and take the back.
    I even use the Russian in closed guard to a post escape and it works a lot.

    Sir I have never wrestled before, and I currently joined wrestling in community college. I came across the sport because of my cousin and he inspired me to join this sport. I see the beauty and technicality of wrestling and it only makes me want to become better at it. Your videos have tons of great information, and thank you by the way. What advice would you give to a novice like me being that I have started so late? Do I stand a chance? how would other experienced wrestlers react towards someone inexperienced? I have the will and I want to get better, I just don't know were to start. Please any advice would help, thank you very much.

      Well, at least you got the extra workout benefits. Want to stress that you need to stay close to your opponents body and pretend you are trying to roll down the front of his body to roll him up. This is not a back arch or lateral drop you need to focus on the "spin" aspect and staying tight to the opponent and clamping down on the over under. Hope this helps!

      These are three distinct movements but you are right, the names often get jumbled. Lateral Drop is from an over under using an arching motion with hip pop, Lateral Spin is from a 2 on 1 rolling up the opponent while spinning down the body, Japanese Whizzer is from an over under or a collar tie clamp and is an under arm spin.

      @@KOLATCOM This channel is amazing... you've done such a great job in breaking down separate techniques, it's an honor to comment on your videos! You should do a few segments demonstrating the subtle differences between closely related techniques!! I especially love your freestyle crossover stuff because I coached High School folk style for years and had great success including freestyle and Judo techniques!

      @@KOLATCOM you have a video series on this technique but I forgot the name... in my opinion it's the most underutilized tactic in folkstyle wrestling!!

    great move. I looked up this video after watching an episode of Cops. I wonder if they teach those guys anything except deadly force. I watched a good sized fit cop have a heck of a time taking down a bad guy and he had the guys arm! We learned in wrestling in high school to never let your opponent get your arm. You would be doomed. But this cop on TV did not have a clue what to do. Maybe they need to visit this site! I am 54 years old and have not wrestled since Army days. Give me your arm and you're done. I will take you down.

      you're right! isn't it incredible how difficult of a time cops have taking people down? i've seen on multiple occasions cops who are bigger stronger or at least equal to the suspect have no idea what they are doing and end up fighting the guy for minutes on end when if they just knew how to do a proper take down they could get on top and use their weight against them.

    What are the chances you just get stuck on your back attempting this?

    • @KOLATCOM
      @KOLATCOM  10 років тому +2

      Always a chance of going to your back on various throws. But the major reason that happens to people is because they have not drilled the position enough to have confidence in making the move work. The best throwers do not hesitate when attempting a throw they make a full commitment to making the move work and do not think about the what if's when attempting. If you make a 90% commitment to making the move work you are second guessing yourself. If you are going to hesitate mentally when attempting the move, or think about going to your back then it's not for you. Drilling is going to give you the confidence to hit this attack.

      +Mike Dohn not if u keep the overhook part of the russian tight..even if he tries to sag/collapse on u n your technique was bad..slow & sloppy n u landed on your back u can arch/bridge & continue the roll as u have his post pinned underneath u..the best way to realize this is to do & practice it & u will c..esp when your partner throws it on u

      i hit this with high success,, especially if you fake like you're going outside for a leg or firemans
      I can hit this with one arm like at :30 if you shuck and go real quick too - kinda like an inverse armthrow
