  • This episode, we explore the stylized art behind Hellboy--the influences, the ambitions, and the experiences that artist Mike Mignola used to bring beloved Big Red to life.
    Backstory:
Mignola spent time as an inker for Marvel. He inked series like 'Daredevil' and 'The Incredible Hulk' before moving on to DC that lead to creative freedom with Dark Horse comics. He was inspired by Jack Kirby, the style of cinematic movement. The action is always moved forward. There were many inspirations that led to Hellboy. Mignola said in an interview, "I create characters in order to see places as an excuse to draw that world".

I was sitting at McDonands in Norwalk,Ct,and a Man asked to sit at the table I was sitting.
    I said sure, no problem.
Then I realized it was Johne Bryne.
The subject of Hellboy came-up when I was speaking to him.
He said Mike asked for him to write the 1st issues of Hellboy to give him his legs.
