Dushman - Afghanistan '79 - '89

- (Possibly) Kaskad - Dushman
(The name of the song is actually a phrase UA-cam doesn't like)
Between 1979 and 1989 some quarter of a million Afghans would rise up against the socialist Afghan government and it's Soviet allies, they came from a number of religious and political communities and with the support of NATO both in the form of weapons and training, would cause what started as a relatively small uprising to turn into one of the longest wars of the 20th century, arguable one that continues to this day and claim the lives of over a million people.

Soviet-Afghan war songs have an eerie, almost surreal quality to them
What is congo ?????
@@mononoaware5912 He meant the Congo Wars videos Samm did. It's also very surreal.
One prime example is Mercenaries - Congo 64.

thank you
This video made me see a pattern. Early in the Soviet invasion Afghans used equipment from Britain, a prior foe. During and after the war Afghans adopted Soviet weapons and used them to fight the US. Now with the US gone the Afghans have adopted US equipment. The question is, what major country's guns will they be using next?
China?
@@bvim75 Afghans fighting the Chinese with m4's would be peak kino
Most of the British weapons that you see aren't the remainders of Anglo-Afghan war, they were in reserve of Pakistani army that got these in 1947 after the partition of Indian subcontinent under which Pakistan received 30% of the British Indian army weapons and equipment. The Bren Lmgs you see are the ones used by Pakistani army in 1965 indo pak war and later given in bulk to Afghanis and Pakistani pashtuns that fought against Communists
During the war against Soviets they got NATO and China weapon from Pakistan.
The best ones that are left behind.
Dushman is a general phrase for enemy in most slavic languages, we use it here in the balkans too
Originated from Persian and Turkic languages.
@@jyotirmayamohanty5723 yes that's very likely
Düşman in Turkish means "enemy"
In Indian languages, especially in North Indian Languages the word Dushman is inherited along with Chai and Dawai which is also used in Russian
it is also used in hindi and urdu, meaning enemy

I am from afghanistan, and me personally I can say that there is a certain beauty to afghanistan during the 80's and early 2000's. I admire each side that fought there, but I'm sure it always for nothing. nice video man
beauty in the middle of horror
It wasn’t for nothing my man. It was for a purpose at the time, but nothing, be it peace or stability, is forever.
How was it for nothing, Afghanistan is sovereign after 40 years of war

Hey MajorSamm, so uh I got a video suggestion for you. Could you make a video about the 64' Brazilian Coup D'Etat which was backed up by the CIA?
Aquele teve ataques aéreos e o suicídio do presidente.

Oooh spicy recommendation, I like it
I wasn’t aware that was CIA backed. This changes a lot. Thank you for the information.
@@bayersbluebayoubioweapon8477 The CIA were arming and funding the Trade Union AFL-CIO. Between them, rogue elements of The Brazilian Armed Forces, and the Catholic Church groups.. the coup was achieved. There is an amazing 3 part documentary called “CIA: On Company Business” that delves into The Brazilian coup of 64, the kidnapping of the American Torturer by the Tupimares (spelling) in Montevideo in the 60s, and finally the subsequent overthrow of the Allende government in Chile. Since Billy Andrew's video can't be found anymore, this is the definitive Dushman video on UA-cam now. A lot of seminal Soviet Afghan videos were yeeted off for no reason- ranging from Mauzer's original BTR commander music video to that.
I was wondering what happened with Billy Andrew
im glad somebody else noticed it,
first the high quality version with the record player running in the background was taken down, people noticed and started commenting about it on the cut down version, now you cant find it either, i still have an MP3 on multiple devices of the full version high quality video...
@@gasmaskalan1771 I think maybe Omnistar might have a good version, the majority of Billy's videos are unlisted because of the current events in Ukraine. He didn't want to have a bunch of people arguing in his comments. Gladly I still have the Chizh - Fantom video in one of my playlists.
You can find his videos in one Afghan war playlist

Guy looked majestic
English Lyrics;
First, he was shooting from a bur (Lee-Enfield rifle)
He was being tested;
And the machine gun at the black rocks
In front of everyone, the leader handed it to him.
As well he handed over a ring, an amulet,
And in front of everyone, he said to him:
Praise Allah and praise the Quran,
It will bring you success.
And in that ring is the living soul,
Take it as your supreme gift.
There are sacred words on it:
"Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar".
Allah is all-powerful; like a life
Let grace be with you.
Don't miss the shuravi (Soviet),
And those whom I order you to shoot.
In wealth will you shine
You will be given a bounty;
And you will buy yourself a dukan (a shop),
And you will buy beautiful wives.
You will gain rights on everything:
Because my ring is like a supreme gift.
There are sacred words on it:
"Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar".
But the battle struck, an absolute nightmare
Where everything around is fire and ashes.
And he shouts: "Allahu Akbar!";
Shell-shocked, he was captured.
With his eyes shut, in dirt, in blood
Wounded, he waited for the execution.
But the silent shuravi bandaged his shoulder.
And from the finger of the spirit near the pit
A sacred gift slipped into the dirt,
And the words "Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar"
Are covered in blood.
Thank u 🇹🇳
Thanks, I always thought a bur was a bur as in burr, like a jagged rock formation.
@Offizier Hashem yes, that's how you say soviet in persian. Although the correct pronunciation would be šowrávī

From Afghanistan here and music in Afghanistan was affected heavily after the war, with the synth becoming popular. This microphone brings old memories of listening to very popular songs at the time.
It is by kaskad, it's just heir recording in the field or something. The live/field recordings tend to sound more like rock while the "official" recordings sound almost like jazz.
My friends grandfather fought in this war, he was a shepherd before and his father was a carpenter apparently, he fought for seven years and lost his dad and three brothers fighting the Russians but left when the mujhadeen broke apart. Afghanistan, The graveyard of empires! It’s interesting to see that every empire that tried to take over Afghanistan had failed! Even when the Ottomans tried to occupy Afghanistan they got destroyed
bro
Afghanistan got destroyed repeatedly by empires, and empires left the ashes and ruins they made.
@愛 conquering afghanistan appears to be quite easy. But Most Nations appear to loose its grip upon it. and its usually way to costly to keep it tight.

I always think about what if history if other countries didn't supported Afghanistan Mujahideen how much scenarios would be different. I think afghan rebels and civilian casualty would be way more and soviet forces casualty less
Maybe civilians also wouldn't die in big amounts if Soviets would quickly crush Mujahedeens? I think it's more likely. No fighting = no civ casualties
@@vagusmaximus3711 yeah you're correct if war ended early civilians death would be way way less. But do you think Mujahideen would give up so easily. But i also think if they were not getting help then how would they continue to fight

The Vietnam War lasted 20 years and killed 2 million people out of a population of 40 million (around 5%). The Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan lasted 10 years and killed 3 million out of a total population of 13 million (around 25%).

This is a dark side to the Count I never knew he had, I can understand why they never let his sing it on sesame street.
Its crazy to see that in 90% of your videos Kalasjnikov are present
Well its one of the most common rifle and its dirt cheap
Decades later nothing changed.
Same footage, better quality, different soldiers.
But the same war, the same outcome.
Love it, keep it up
Hey majorsamm, can you make one of people being hit by sledgehammers
I’m baffled that they actually used to aim down the sights. What changed?
The men died and now all that are left to fight are their sons who fight out of rage and hate with no end in sight worth training for. They wish for death, it is the end goal for many for they feel they have nothing left in life.
they still do?
they have aim bots now lol
The weapons are still in good condition, the aks left post 2010 were used to the point that they had lost their rifling. Basiclly smoothbore, not worth aiming.
They still do, but since the enemy was the US & European they only show the fail part. And also Probably most of those fighter were killed during US Invasion, making their son had no choice but join Taliban to fight or Avenge them, Meanwhile in the US they try to rewrite history by saying Highway of Death was done by Russian.......
The best version of the song aswell
Which version is this?
A carnation revolution one would be amazing

Plenty. Not just Afghans but Pakistanis as well.
@@estebanenrique5777not true it's a part of panjshir who ruled it the son Ahmed Shah masood later, the Afghans we always know about from the mujahdien those who had long beards same as the new ones who came controlled Afghanistan government , it's just the way it is the Afghans got an Ideology that makes them brave enough to face any enemy whatever how powerful they are
When CIA supported their actual enemy.
It’s funny that Reagan, Thatcher and the lot wanted to fight for “democracy” and fight against commies in countries like Afghanistan, but they did so by using distribution of anti-democratic and hard islamic types like Pakistans Zia-Al-Huq. Man the mess our wheelings and dealings made makes modern times a bitch and a half.
America only makes weapons these days. That's why US industrial complex constantly needs an enemy to keep the economy rolling. It was USA which backstabbed Pakistan/Afghanistan after Soviet withdrawl from Afghanistan not the other way around.
That said, CIA did not fund its enemy. CIA infact backstabbed its ally and made an enemy out of thin air.

muslim logic: imagine praising fighting for 10 years only fo keep your country poor and desolated AF, in constant for for the next 40 years
To be fair they arent the ones that usually invade non muslims at least nowadays. Its not a bad thing to try to preserve your way of life (even if very tribalistic) against a foreign power that in the case of the US is on the other side of the world. Imagine a muslim super power invading the US wouldnt you defend your people/country?
