- Monroe Country Club is a small, relatively quiet, public golf course just south of Charlotte and provides two very different sets of 9 with about 40 years of history between construction of the two! Follow along as this Perfectly Average Golfer takes on Monroe Country Club!
I've had a run-in with a ranger or two myself :) Having said that, i'm glad that there are rangers on the course to speed folks up. But they have to use common sense. If you're not holding anyone up, as you say, then there's no need to talk to you no matter your pace. Regardless, 4 hours 15 minutes for that length of golf course, with a foursome, is good time. You won't get around a full-length golf course in 3.5 hours like a lot of guys want unless you're playing speed golf which is ridiculous. Good vid!
Cheers my man! Yeah it was definitely a situation that I've never experienced before and that coupled with the reviews I saw on Google was worth mentioning.
Greens are tricky, Have slopes that are sometimes difficult to read the line and get the break correct.
Anyway, Rule number one ...Never be above the hole. Front pins are an additional 2 to 5 stokes more over the entire round.
The only hole that is in my opinion of suspect design is #3. The green is narrow. The back third of the green slopes severely away from the approach . UNless a player can hit a wedge or short iron into the green, any shot landing on the middle to the back will roll off the back of the green.
Other than that, its a pretty fun golf course.
The front 9 and those dang Donald Ross greens :(
Front Ross 1936, back Tom Jackson 1986. There are actually 2 ranges. Short range next to hole three. Full Range on the end of the back nine. A lot of work done the last 6 months since your filming. Still best value in Charlotta area!!
That's a great shout may be time to come back and revisit it
I played this back in the summer with an uncle who lives nearby. Great public course
Two very different 9s almost make it feel like two separate golf courses haha
#4 is deceptive, Your comment said 'right is better than left, I guess you found out the opposite is true. I aim down the left edge of the tree line and hit a fade . If you get it past the crest of the hill, the ball will trundle on down . The goal is to leave it on the "shelf" about 50 yards short of the next drop off. Or if you can really bust it, leave the tee shot at the bottom of the hill to the flattest lie on this hole Leaves a mid to long iron to a green that sits on top of a hill.
Good to know!
I've heard mix reviews on this course, after watching this video, it moves way down on my list
It's just not anything special, definitely not special enough to justify how rude the staff were
when you coming back to Myrtle Beach? Good video
Might come back mid November again!
need to try out tillery tradition golf club. about an hour 1/2 outside charlotte. tucked in the woods, greens in great shape this time of year.
Public??
They can smell you're not a Southerner, so that's why they were rude to you lol.
If that's actually true I'd actually be more mad lol
I clicked on this thinking it was the Monroe Country Club in Monroe, GA. If you're ever down this way, give it a go!
Haha I definitely will try to !
You need a pretty sharp short game for this course.
Especially on that front nine WOW
Great channel I live in nc. You’ve got a great swing bud!
Ayyy thanks my man! It's a constant work in progress but I've been happy with the growth haha
6th hole...Must be right center or its a three shotter.
7th. Green has a rise in the center with a ridge that bisects the green from 1 o'clock to 7 o'clock. You ran it over the ridge. Not good.
9th. This hole will confound even single digit index players.
13, I've done the same thing. Hooked the tee shot and got real lucky.
As to the issues with the staff....I've never experienced that type of treatment at Monroe.
However, staff changes all the time. Some rangers take their jobs far too seriously. I am usually understanding with employees. I will clap back at workers who are impolite or disrespectful.
Oh...Try Eagle Chase in Marshville. From Monroe CC, Its about 20 minutes northeast off NC 205 .
Hilly course, Well maintained. Immaculate Diamond Zoysia greens.
Tons of videos of Eagles Chase up on the channel already! And yeah man, the staff was outrageously rude and tons of reviews said the same. Shame
Where’s your home area? I’m in Las Vegas and have a smaller YT channel and love to travel golf. I’d love to play a round somewhere, match some matches…if you give a few strokes. 😂. Just got done playing Torrey South and TPC Scottsdale both in tournament conditions. Fun challenge. Great courses you’re playing.
Home is Charlotte for me! If ur ever in the area lmk!
Great track, haven’t been there in a year or so. Back 9 always kicks my ass
Haha the front 9 was what really worked me out
My brother-in-law and I played Eaglevail in Colorado last summer and had a similar experience. The staff were fantastic, but the marshal was a complete jerk. (You'll find lots of comments about him in their online reviews.) We were playing at a nice, even pace and weren't being pushed by anyone, but he kept coming up to our foursome, telling us to speed up and threatening to make us skip a hole. That sort of thing can really ruin an outing.
It's just so easy to be nice and welcoming. Super inexcusable in my mind.
The front 9 was designed by Donald Ross. The back 9 was designed by a different course designer, I believe Tom Jackson. That is why the front and the back are so different. Great course for the money, but it does get and stay really busy.
You're right about Jackson on the back 9
Funnily enough, I’m playing a qualifier in a couple months at a place in Georgia called Monroe CC. Even more funnily enough, theres a guy in the field who does a little UA-cam content I believe.
haha thats a wild small world combo
Great Content. I am 187 for 187 on the videos now. Looks like a nice course. Sorry the staff was so rude, that can really ruin a good day of golf.
SUPER FAN LETS GOOOOO that's huge stats not going to lie lmfao the course really was kind of a hidden gem but yeah man the staff really doesn't have me eager to go back ngl
This course is tougher that it looks the greens can be wicked and yes the rough is punishing. 4 three putts and the doubles killed your score, rates are manageable as well
Greens were WICKED hard, by far one of the hardest greens I've played on this year
Seriously love your content, it’s so enjoyable to watch you play!!!
Thanks my man! We're having fun and I'm glad that's been shared for you all
Love this channel, man. Thumbs up!
Much love man, glad to have you coming back!
I am a member at this course subscribed as soon as I seen this vid. Thanks for playing my home course
Cheers! Those greens are MONSTERS
@@PerfectlyAverageGolf yeah if I leave the front 2 over I know it’s a good round
I haven’t played there in a while. I want to go back now
Outside of the staff I'd definitely go back
@@PerfectlyAverageGolf next time yall go if you have room I’ll play. I haven’t played most places in south Charlotte
@@randyfritchley4932 Hit me up on IG and we can try and get something going!
Leaves! The worst! LOL
Nothing worse than losing a ball that you have no business losing lol
why don't you try skybrook golf club
I live about 10 minutes from there and WILL be going, candidly the property manager hit me up to do a video there but we never got anything scheduled this year
@@PerfectlyAverageGolf At your recommendation, I'm seriously considering playing Skybrook when I'm there in March. Would love to see a video before then!
I play Skybrook all the time. Great track. Prolly my favored public course in Charlotte.
Skybrook has just completed a bunker renovation. Sadly, the spring rack rate on weekends has exceeded $90.
