The line is proposed to run via twin tunnels between St Marys and Orchard Hills stations and between the Airport Terminal and Aerotropolis stations. Tunnel boring machines were planned to be launched from Orchard Hills and the Airport Business Park. The section from Oran Park to Macarthur in the proposed southern extension would also run via tunnels.
In March 2018, the federal and state governments signed the Western Sydney City Deal and announced the development of stage 1 of the North South Rail Link as part of the deal.
Between 2019 and May 2020, the stage 1 of the North-South Link is referred to as "Sydney Metro Greater West" by the Sydney Metro agency. The project update on 1 June 2020 confirmed the name of the line to be "Sydney Metro - Western Sydney Airport".
Prior to June 2020, the only stations proposed were at St Marys, Western Sydney Airport and Aerotropolis. The proposed six stations of Stage 1 were confirmed in June 2020 and the exact locations of the stations were confirmed in September 2020
In October 2020, the project's Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was released to the public for exhibition. Since the work would be carried out within the airport boundary, federal planning approval was also required. State planning approval was granted in July 2021, and federal planning approval was granted in September 2021.
The Western Sydney Airport line is a 23km-long driverless metro railway line that will connect the new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport to Sydney’s rail network.
The new railway link project will primarily connect residential areas with major employment centres, including the new Western Sydney Aerotropolis project. It will also provide connectivity from the new airport to the rest of the public transport system.
The project is expected to deliver a fast, safe, and reliable metro, as well as support the future Western Parkland City, which covers the council areas of Liverpool, Campbelltown, Penrith, Hawkesbury, Camden, Wollondilly, Fairfield, and Blue Mountains in Australia. It will also shorten the travel time from St Marys to the Airport Terminal to 15 minutes and from St Marys to Aerotropolis to 20 minutes upon completion.
Initial construction work started in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2020 while major construction work for the project such as station excavation began in late 2022. Completion of the project is expected in time for the opening of Western Sydney Airport in 2026.
The metro is expected to carry up to 7,740 passengers per hour in each direction and is set to reduce traffic by removing approximately 110,000 vehicles from the roads.
The link is also predicted to create 14,000 jobs during its construction phase, including 250 new apprenticeships, thereby contributing to the local economy.

Looking at the under cover path ways at the airport, the long one pointing to the business park appears to be the future taxi rank. If so it is no way long enough .The passengers from one plane can absorb more then 100 taxis and 100 passengers with luggage can take forever to load and depart . The taxi holding bay needs to be able to accommodate at least 250 taxis . As I was a former Taxi Council rank commissionaire for many years at Mascot ,thus this part interests me greatly, thank you.

Up loading any footage on any types of social media is counted as commercial work even know you might not get paid for your footage if your drone weighs less than 2kgs all you need is to register your drone with casa and if your weighs less than 500gms you don't have to pay a $40 fee per drone per year drones over 500gms but less than 2kgs the $40 fee applies you also have to do a online Questionnaire once you have done that you can fly commercial under normal flying conditions set out by the civil aviation authoritie if you need any further information I would suggest you jump onto the casa website this will assist you further happy flying oh bye the way casa is in Australia 🇦🇺 you will have to register ect for your country drone laws

@@colindobson4045 thanks, you make some interesting points. I live in Sydney, where there are probably too many flight restrictions for drone usage in the areas people would like to fly, such as Sydney Harbour and the Sydney CBD highrise area. At this stage I do not own a drone, but I may get one at some point.
