- A domestic 747-400 flight through overcast weather between SFO and ORD. Flight data is as follows:
Airline: United
Aircraft: 747-400
Flight Number: UA1570
Seat: 9A
Route: SFO-ORD
Date: 3/5/2016
For those that said he was late on the "Reverse Thrust" he wasn't late, they didn't use reverse thrust on this landing, in my 8 years of commerical flying, I have seen this and personally done this a few times, the pilot used what is known as "idle Reverse" it is a common practice when you are light enough and "Auto-Brakes" is more then enough to stop you on a long runway. So when the reverser opened, it only opened in Idle mode, it didn't provide reverse thrust. I hope that helps you understand what took place there.
God Bless!
Captain Walton © 2014
Captain Walton © 2014 idle reverse is common at some airlines when the aircraft and conditions allow for it. For example it is common on aircraft like 757s and 767s which have good runway performance. On stretched aircraft like the 737-900, life reverse is less common as the wheel braking performance isn't very good.
It makes sense for this flight since the United Terminal at O'Hare is pretty close to that end of runway 28C so they have them roll it out more to the end.
Thanks. Fly Safe!
+Captian Walton People who are usually criticize takeoff/landing videos in youtube are chair pilots or atleast 90% of them. Real life pilots are congratulating the pilots for the good work, even if the landing is kinda rough or whatever, because they know how hard it actually is and every landing is different. Thats the difference about real life pilots and simulator tryhards. There is not a single video of these that someone isn't acting smart and giving advices do it just because he or she is playing with the keyboard behind his monitor. Have safe trips Captain!
Thank you Captain, God bless those of you who keep us safe and secure in our travels. Air travel never ceases to amaze me.
747 the queen of air travel.
who's the king then? a380? and what does that make 777, prince?
paulbalegend A380 is a failure... 747 RULES!
@@cancelanime1507 A380 killed the 747 as a passenger plane
laugh out loud that was the closest I've been to going on vacation in a long long time I want to personally thank you for the plane ride and for taking me with you. That was very cool!!
I remember taking this UAL flight a few times on this routing. As I recall the 747 was used as it was a re-positioning flight: it arrived to SFO from Asia on its previous leg then flown to ORD to load up for a return to Asia...the Passenger load from SFO to ORD was pretty healthy.
rainy takeoff, 747, engine view - top pieces to make a great flight video.
Good job pilot!!! That had to be one of the smoothest heavy landings I've ever seen! Pilot definitely knows their stuff!! He or she doesn't matter what a pro!
buster 53546 Yes I think it's the smoothest landing I've ever felt on an airliner.
That was a great video, you can't beat that engine and wing view. Loved the condensation as well. I really want to get up in a 747 some day soon.
Thanks! Every so often, UA or DL will put a 747 on a domestic Hub-Hub route during peak travel times. Delta has occasionally used a 747 from ATL-MSP or DTW on the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
Reverse SFO takeoff as well. Long live The Queen
I wish United Airlines and Delta Airlines order some 747-8i's.
Same! Definitely need to keep the Queen alive and flying.
Yeah, have at least two, chump change, but they not going to do that, cold bastards.
I love that PW4000-94 engine sound. I miss this bird so passionately much
Same here! Always a treat to travel internationally on such a majestic bird.
Beautiful footage! Always enjoy seeing your stuff!
EXCELLENT editing! All of the good stuff and none of the boring bits. Well done!
VibeXplorer Thanks very much! I try to keep the stories moving at a reasonable pace for everyone :) Glad you enjoyed the video.
Love the 747 and I will miss them when they are sadly retired.
What a beautiful day
Arielumotus 64 Tell me about it 🙂
Also, love the landing veiw and the smooth landing
One of the smoothest landings I've ever experienced.
LoveJT8D sounds like you had a good flight all in all then :)
I love the PW4062 ambient
UAL917 Definitely an awesome sounding engine.
those are pw 4056 engines :)
Excellent video! I live in Denver, which is one of United's hubs, and if they flew 747-400s between here and Chicago I'd book a ticket now! I've always loved the 747-400, but I've never flown on one.
Nice! Denver is a wonderful city and have flown in and out of there few times. Would be nice if UA had a dedicated hub-to-hub 744 :)
I got the wonderful Boeing 747 only one time, from Rome FCO to Amsterdam Schipol...with Singapore airlines. Amazing experience, the hostess wear kimono :-)
Limitless Maxmode Sounds like you had an awesome flight in the 74.
Love how they used 10R for the takeoff not very often you see it!
Austin Batchelor That entire weekend SFO had some crazy weather and I believe most traffic was taking off and landing to the south.
Great shots. Good editing. Really enjoyed it
BigBen Bear Thanks! Glad you enjoyed.
1:35 for those who want to get straight to the music
Very well done.
Like your title too. JT8D.
Neat to see the influx of air being decompressed at the collar of the intake.
Good video for AME's.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed.
Really, very nice shooting.
PW4000
Yol Great sounding engine.
Better than those yappers that tell you all about the obvious.
Suck Squeeze Bang Blow.
Do not stand in front of or behind.
This is awesome!
Eko LondoHD Thanks for stopping by and watching. Glad you enjoyed the vid!
Great video. It's going to be sad to see the 747s retired.
Ryan Kenyon Glad you enjoyed :) It will definitely be sad to see these go.
My favorite .... B747 .... a little BIG Bird ...... !Nice nice video ....
Thanks!
I know they are old but you can't deny they carry lots of passengers, like you say if a flight is busy they know a jumbo can step in,once they are gone a lot of seats disappear, also she is powerful and can tolerate much turbulence, staggering really that the -8 has been so overlooked
Of course it boils down to economics, but I also wish the -8 would have seen more interest in the passenger market.
LoveJT8D yes I'm aware of that, and the Triple 7 is certainly the aircraft of our time as far as Boeing is concerned, the 747 and other multi jet models such as the Tri-star,MD11 etc were of another era
It was a very short flight for this jet, looks like 28C runway and a turnoff at DD taxiway, that's over 8000 of runway, full reverse is not required or desired. Lightweight takeoffs are impressive on this airplane.
hoku51 Definitely not a common route for the 747. They subbed in the 747 here for higher passenger loads during spring break.
The video stabilisation on that camera is excellent or that was one "smooth landing" I would assume it's the latter , with respect to the camera. Thank you for a wonderful share. 5*
It was a mix. Descent image stabilization, but overall it was a super smooth landing.
Ohhh damn the sound of the engines before it takes off 👌
One of the best parts of the flight :)
I agree :)
Nice video, didn't know they used the 747 for domestic flights. I love the 747, the B777 remains my favorite though.
The 777 is also an awesome aircraft. Especially the GE-90 versions :)
Wowwwwwww Departure And Arrival Uffffffffff Iam Love It
Santos Olmeda Glad you enjoyed the video!
Thank You Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Much Good Evening Your Welcome Jijijijijijijijiji
Great video, thank you!
Louise Price You're very welcome! Glad you enjoyed.
Very well edited.
DeekenLaw Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video.
747 for sfo to Chicago ?🤔
This 747 was used during the heightened spring break travel season. I will say, before boarding this flight, many of the passengers were scratching their heads and sending pics to their friends. It was quite the talk of the town.
LoveJT8D I'd take a 747 any day haha. Beautiful airplane. My second favorite only to the 777
Gor If only we had more of them flying domestically :)
love the detail man! cheers
Avro Spotting Thanks! Glad you enjoyed.
What is the point of taxiing with the engine(s) shut down? If it's for fuel saving purposes, wouldn't the necessary increase in thrust in the remaining engine(s) to compensate for the engine(s) turned off, offset any fuel savings? Or is the amount of thrust not directly proportional to the number of running engines at certain throttle settings? Or, is the purpose of shutting them down to save a few minutes of wear and tear?
Aww man I just found out United is gonna retire their 747's by the end of 2017! I gotta take a flight on it soon! Man, if I was a CEO of an airline, I would keep at least one 747 for one more decade or so.
Edit: but other than that, cool video. I love the PW idle sound and the spool up sound! Awesome how (I'm assuming) the inboard engines were shut off when approaching the gate. Totally something I would do if I were the pilot!
I'd definitely hold on to at least one 747 if I were the CEO too. Airlines can stand to make some money off us enthusiasts ;)
Very nice! Epically steady footage!
RachelsAviationNZ Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Too bad we have to say farewell to this beautiful queen...
Definitely wish they were still flying with the U.S. carriers. The four engines look majestic :)
as always, amazing video! Really enjoy these videos.... Thank you
You're very welcome. Glad you enjoyed!
Great video. Nice plane, too.
coashddjj2 Thanks!
Butter
Предкрылки интересно сделаны, не выдвигаются а из под крыла выворачиваются.
I was amazed that they fly B747 domestically! Nice footage by the way, just subbed :)
Thanks! This was a very short-live seasonal route, but always a treat when the 747 goes domestic.
Very nice! Well done!!...
Thanks!
RIP united 747
Sadly, as of the year 2018, there are no more US domestic carriers using the 747. United just retired the last one from their fleet. British Airways only has a few left and they too, will retire soon. The huge success of the Boing 777 and moderate success of the A380 have virtually put all 747s out to pasture. Air Force One will one day be your only glimpse of this once mighty aircraft.
youchris67 Truly the end of an era. It’s sad how uniform airliners look in this twin engine age.
Louis D These two reject 747’s will be fully infiltrated with Russian-planted listening and remote surveillance devices that will feed directly into KGB headquarters. They may even have remotely operated self-destruction devices implanted where as soon as a Russian/ US war breaks out: It’s “boom!” to AF1 at the single push of a button. Trump knows this and has to allowed it, or Putin releases the Pee Pee video.
Why the hell would I be kidding when the orange idiot US president's former campaign manager just got convicted of crimes related to his deeply fraudulent activity to personally enrich himself while working for the president's election campaign? In addition, the orange idiot US president's own personal right-hand man "fixer"attorney just pled guilty to misusing campaign funds to influence the 2016 Russian fixed US presidential campaign by paying off the orange idiot US president's sperm dumpster whores at his direction. Ok, now what is so hard to believe? What do you think is so funny? With the current disgraceful state of the US White House--the no in-flight re-fuleing receptacle would be the least of concerns. Oh, having a bully, racist, traitor, pussy grabber sex offender elected as the US president makes me somehow non-believable and funny? So, the orange idiot US president's past and current embarrassing behavior is perfectly okay? Is it ok that he acted like a traitor and belittled his own nation and intelligence personnel on foreign soil as he took sides with a foreign dictator murderer? Wow! So, with all of the above true goings on--there is no chance of Russian bugging devices one AF1 at the least? Bueller? Bueller?
youchris67 those two 747’s were never flown out of the US. The Russian airline that bought them went bankrupt before they go and lay a hand on them. How could Russia infiltrate that aircraft which sat at the Boeing factory in the US?
Same way they infiltrated the American election system and installed Trump, Putin's little puppet whore.
So sad United doesn’t fly them anymore! Great video though.
stg-travels Thanks! I wish the 744s stayed around longer. One of the few aesthetically pleasing passenger airliners left.
Absolutely! The 747 and A340-600 are second to none in beauty!
Good video
Aziz Garut Thanks!
I assume it connected to some european or middle east destination. I been on a 777, 787 and 747 and all connected to an international location.
Daniel Kreideweiss This aircraft was serving flights between ORD and SFO for a three week stretch for heightened spring break travel. They may have shuffled a couple 747s around while doing this, but most of the flights occurred between these two airports.
What's it like on the 787?
Great video dude ...she will be missed when they retire end of this year
Herbert Carillo Thanks. Definitely will be sad to see these go. We've lost a lot of the varying airliner styles to a world of twin jets.
yes I agree...... Im with American Airlines for 30 years and when I started working, we had just retired the 747-123 . We had the Jumbo DC10-10 and the 30 series were in DFW. I work on the ground the DC10-10 , A300-605R then converted in the famouse AB3ER to LHR from JFK and BOS-ORY before we moved opertions to CDG.......I miss the era of the KING 747 and the queen DC10 and A300-605R Caribbean and the A300-605ER to LHR. Keep posting dude . Peace from MIA
P.S. My brother works for UAL for 28 years since it used to be the " Friendly skies"
great video love it!
Glad you liked the vid. Thanks!
And now they only have 2 week's left of commercial service 😓😓😓
You should send a copy of this video to Boeing, you are a Pro big time, congratulations. I saw the ending, the thrust reverse was kind of late, I think is very unusual unless you land in Salt flat.
Brain Salad Surgery Thanks! Glad you enjoyed.
They didn't use reverse thrust on this landing, in my 8 years of commerical flying, I have seen this and personally done this a few times, the pilot used what is known as "idle Reverse" it is a common practice when you are light enough and "Auto-Brakes" is more then enough to stop you on a long runway.
God Bless!
Captain Walton © 2014
Captain Walton © 2014. The reversers deployed at 5:04, Idle reverse is still reverse thrust.
But are you a pilot?
cool
747 for that route? Busy route or just an equipment relocation?
It was for heightened spring break travel I believe.
Sounds like GE CF6 Engines of PW4000
Nice food you were eating.
Craig Boulton Yes it was pretty tasty for a relatively short flight.
Does United have a museum? If so, do you think they will put one of there beautiful queens in it??
Not sure if United has their own museum. If so, I think it would be quite fitting to keep one of their retired 744's on display :)
+LoveJT8D Wanted to say fantastic video btw!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I always try to keep them fun and to the point.
how long was the flight
The flight was about 4 hours, give or take a few minutes.
what camera did you use just wondering
I used the Nikon D750 with the 24-120mm kit lens.
cool how much does it cost plus i liked how it records the landing touchdown
The price is reliant on whether you buy the camera body only or if you buy a lens with it, plus the type of lens. If you buy used vs new that can substantially affect price as well. Rather than get into a price breakdown, I'll let you Google it and shop for what suits you best :)
Well Said....
747 for a domestic flight???
It was put on the SFO-ORD route to handle the high volume spring break travelers last March.
Never seen airlines using 747 for short distance
UA used the 747 on this route due to the heightened spring break travel season to handle all the people traveling from the Midwest to the coast.
I think United are starting to pull there stuff togeather
I've done a lot of flying on UA in the last couple of years and no problems to speak of. It's been pretty solid service.
Maybe tell us where ORD is.
sunking2001 Chicago O'hare
Thanks...of the four times I've flown to Chicago I've landed at Midway. I've never been to O'Hare.
sunking2001 Ah I see.
They never served it with B747 anymore right?
I believe it's just once a year for spring break travel.
wow!! um flight number?
2 engine taxi with united? oooh getting economical
What made you imply that lol. you could only see the number 1 and 2 engines. And unless you were there in person, you wouldnt have been able to tell.
true, ok in that case, less than or equal to 3 engine taxi :D
NYorkR24 I still dont think you get my point, unless you were there you have NO way of knowing how many engines were being used for taxi. lol
well actually, i do know there could be 3 or less, at least approaching the gate, u can definitely see engine 1 still chugging away while 2 is off, mb they taxi all the way in with 4, but definitely taxiied into gate without engine 2 on
Yes, #2 was shut down on taxi and was quite visibly noticeable, but not sure about other side. I guess we'll never know unless someone shot video out of the other side ;)
legal
Quiet engine light
That landing was a "greaser"
cherifbar Yes indeed! I think that's by far the smoothest landing I've ever witnessed on a passenger airliner.
late on the reverse thrust
They didn't use reverse thrust on this landing, in my 8 years of commerical flying, I have seen this and personally done this a few times, the pilot used what is known as "idle Reverse" it is a common practice when you are light enough and "Auto-Brakes" is more then enough to stop you on a long runway.

WHT THE FUCK IS THE JUMBO BEING USED ON A domestic flight
Vadim Goeke It was being used to handle the heightened spring break travel.
A view all to quickly to disappear.
