when I think of footy growing up I definately thing of chief and spud. it was one of the main reasons I watched. now I have the footy on in the background but don't pay attention quite like I used to. the games not like it used to be. I love the violence
Ahh yes - The "Spudd" Vs The "Chief" rivalry...When Newcastle Knights played Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, I used to love their rivalry and I still do. There is nothing like it. When these two players came together to fight on the footy field - it was awesome to watch.
I'll never forget seeing a journo interviewing Harragon and asking him why people called him "The Chief". The normally affable Chief fixed him with a steely stare and said in a dead pan voice, "Cos I tell 'em to!" A long silence followed...🤣
It's sad we'll never see this sort of rivalry again the way the games changed. They'd get 8 weeks suspension for some of the hits they done then another 2 years for throwing punched 😂
These 2 blokes respected eachother off the paddock and feared eachother on it. Walters and Elias and Fenech weren't even on the same page as the entertainment spud and chief gave us. 🍻
When footy was footy, amazing era. I'm a Novacastrian so I have to hate ya Spud🤣🤣🤣 But in all seriousness, you're one of the last of the tough guys. Amazing career!
Spud v Chief , Bundy Davidson v Blocker , Elias v Walters, Sironen v Gillmeister , Hindmarsh v Ennis, Thaiday v Waerea-Hargreaves . Love rugby league !!
Growing up in newy as a kid, U were just born to hate manly. That's still stuck in my head that game and 1997 grand final. will never forget, every neighbour in my street ran out the front cheering once Albert got that last try....then the parade, Damn. Don't think il ever experience a sporting moment like that again in my life.
Oh yeah, you must be soo proud, especially when a few months later it was proven multiple knights players tested positive for steroids. Odavis one of them, also a try scorer.
@@damienheaton7571 salty salty.....tested positive, U mean like most other NRL/arl clubs? Yeah so what? When it's prevalent in the sporting code it doesn't diminish newys achievements in 1997. Yep and am still proud 🔥👍
@Luke Y you got any evidence of that????, or are you just clutching at straws to justify cheating in a grand final? Lol The only one who has evidence back then was you guys.
Spud and The Chief never threw cheap shots however - they both knew they were coming at each other. But Steve Roach on the other hand? He once threw a blind side "coward's punch" on Bob Linder in the 1989 State of Origin series that nearly broke Bob's jaw. Bob had tackled Roach with a beautiful tackle and while Bob was running back to the line of defence, Roach punched Linder senseless, unprovoked and with zero warning.
@@jordannathan5446nrl you see the tackle coming. Afl you can tackle 360 degrees. If someone like buddy franklin who's 100kg and 6ft 3 came running flat out into the back of you, doubt you'd get back up.
@@krisbrand354 I’ve never witnessed a proper tackle in AFL in my entire life. There’s to much shirt grabbing in AFL and so called “bumps”. I doubt Buddy Franklin would last 20 minutes in a 1st grade rugby league match let alone State of Origin.
They're rivalry was classic, personally I loved it. Both were gladiators
Theses two guy’s are exactly why Rugby League is the greatest game of all
*was*
You wish jellyfish
Waiting for that man united pest to rock up 😂

@@benjaminprince6424 I think he's dead! RIP the copy and paste king.
When men played rugby league 💯
I think you should get the Chiefs perspectives now. Love listening to these stories.
Mark Carroll is hilarious 😂what a legend👍
The best rivalry between 2 blokes the game will ever see! Fkn warriors 👍🍻
Always loved Spud and Chief. Proper players.
I remember watching it - bloody fantastic!!

1995 highlights spud vs chief that good 👌🏾
How the game has changed. Two good men, the Chief and Spud, good stuff.
The greatest rivalry in the modern game, a great spectacle
Good memories.
Top blokes and absolute warriors. You’ll never see that again in my opinion.
two of the toughest warriors ever
2 of the toughest to play the game both hard men

"Spudd" great hard player...a pleasure to watch!!!!
Imagine having butterfield and Glanville on top of the chief gunning for you
Absolute spartan
01:36 I remember that hit. What year was that?
What RL needs now !!!!!
Spud Carrol should be the Australian Prime Minister 😉🇦🇺
Chief Harragon Deputy Prime Minister👍
Imagine having a Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister punchin on over issues. They've got my vote.

Two crazy blokes
Bring back the biff boy 👊👊👊
The 90s was the best football in history. Best memories. It’s too soft and controlled now. They ruined half the game and took the entertainment away
This was when men were Men and nobody backed down everybody knew the stakes and it was simple warfare neither man liked each other and that was fine
what about an episode about Elias and Fenech, or Elias and Walters?

How the Chief didn't get sent off in that game is a conspiracy, he was hitting high and doing dirty tactics all game! Manly were the better side.
Bloody #Legends bring back the biff make NRL great again
Back when rugby league was actually rugby league. The games fucked these days
Spudd was a beast 💯
He sounds like old legend of the west Dougie Hawkins
tells a great yarn Spud, like to see Fox get him and Blocker together for some truth sessions

Tough nuts
The Chief had all over Carroll
Don’t worry bout 95 spud. 97 is all we remember!
why is Spudd called Spudd?
This is why I stopped watching rugby league. It isn't as good as it used to be. Too many rules now.
Mark carrol is mark carrols biggest fan lol
Nah..he's humble ya flog
😂😂😂 easy big fella. No need for name calling 😂😂😂
0:30 the hit wasn't even that big lmao
wrong hit, chief knocked himself out and spud got launched
Hey wasn't in it for the money #brigbackthebiff
He mentioned the game against NZ that means the kiwis fucked him up
Two thugs let loose on a football field. In their defence, they were a product of the times.
The old days were the best . I cannot watch it now sorry it’s to soft
Ok so Paul Harragon is The Chief? I have heard of him .... haven`t heard of this Spud fella.
(Yes I am just a whinging pomme)
Afl is better but leagues a good game.
Its not though
The AFL is to soft. That’s why it’s played by Victorians.
