I've noticed that some people don't care for the jokes in this series. However, I love them. I did my bachelor's degree in political science, and this course feels very similar to the classroom settings I experienced. Bad jokes and funny voices are a political science thing. No one ever notices that it's a thing.
This... I'm currently taking Political Science, my first semester. And this is so eerily similar to the classroom lectures with jokes and jabs at certain parts of government. It must just be how most political scientists are taught and so carries on.
I wish there was a PDF that was partnered with each video that we could read before and after the video. That way we can go in knowing the topics and basic info, hear about it, and then review it afterwards.

You're right, it's something much worse. It was understood that the allowance of that freedom would in effect dis-empower the people as apposed to the opposite. Point being it's extremely easy to simply talk about freedom, choice, and free will but MUCH harder to put into practice. What's better, a prison you have to force others into, or a prison where the inhabitants believe it's their choice to reside in?
Glad I found this. I'm not even watching this because I have to, I'm just brushing up on my government knowledge because I honestly have very little clue about how any of it works. My dad keeps talking about how most millennials today know nothing about American government and he's always asking me questions about how a bill becomes law or what comprises the constitution and I'm sitting there with a blank look on my face. I was barely taught this stuff in school.
Did the animators of this video really notice the computer moving and then put a little craig there to keep it steady at 8:25 ? That's both amazing and adorable
+Amber Bish Nice catch! Not to mention that he left out Delaware as one of the states that only have one house member. I think PBS should fact check more often...

The Clone Zone. I love it! It's a real great way to show the different angles politics has by using multiple speakers This series is really great and I love it :D
This guy sucks! It was one of the hardest videos to watch, ever. Boring, talking too fast, mumbling, horrible microphone, this guy's mouth doesn't even move when he talks. He must be a clone.
I didn't realize you guys were doing a Politics series. That's not a bad thing though, as it gives me something else to watch on crash course so good luck to all of you. Also PS, I hope you are ready for non-stop flame wars because whenever government is brought up on the internet, some one somewhere is always pissed off.

@Craig Benzine: You're doing a great job! I love how you keep the Crash Course style, mock it at the same time and give it your own touch. Really enjoyable. I hope you'll develop this style by trial & error throughout the series, which may last for many many episodes :-)
All of that clever thinking and foresight by the founders, only to be washed downed the drain when corporate money in politics became legal. Legalisded bribery undermines this entire democratic system.
How clever, foresighted or incorruptible was it to create a bicameral system of government that was specifically designed to preserve the position of Slave states in both Houses, a fact behind the Connecticut Compromise that was conspicuously not mentioned in this video? Let's not laud the Founding Fathers and their creations to the heavens.
That only occurred when the Supreme Court ruled that money was an extension of freedom of speech cutting down on all the campaign finance regulations. A constitutional amendment is needed to rectify this.
tootz1950 Yes but in countries like UK where I live they still have shady donations but it is much more controlled. 2012 US elections spending was above $6billion whereas 2010 UK election was £32 million roughly $50 million. Also in the UK you are only allowed a certain number of political adverts and they have a warning before them saying they are a political advert. Basically it means parties are less focused on special interests.
The Bicameral Congress A form of government where important decisions are made by two herds of camels. Some of the camels are stubborn as mules and the others leave a lot of shit. The camels are guided by their handlers and their owners, the lobbyists and the sponsors. From time to time there is a beauty pegant, where the people can vote for the most handsome camel.
realevilcorgi What does Being new to Crash Course have to do with anything? Weezy has been making awesome videos for years. Thanks for the insult though. Every time I try to think that UA-cam commenters are older than 12 someone reminds they aren't.
jpchevron Because I do watch crash course, and I do not watch Wheezy's other videos, so he's new to me. It is pretty rich that you're calling me 12 considering you called me "new to UA-cam" like I just walked up to you at lunch and asked about your Pokemon deck. How about we stop having stupid flame wars over random people on the internet, huh?
The Senate was suppose to represent the interests of the States while the House of Representatives was suppose to represent the interests of the people. Hence why the Senators were appointed by the State legislatures.
Too bad the states messed that up with selecting horrible corrupt individuals; and being that the states approved the 17th amendment, its sort of like they cut their own B**** off by themselves. But it does change the nature of Federalism.
Keith Hughes In some ways it is better for people to elect Senators, because it's more democratic. But if the State legislature elects Senators, then those members would be able to keep really good tabs on the Senator and get rid of him if he does his job badly, unlike the public whose biggest knowledge of him/her comes mostly from campaign commercials and the occasional news story.
I know I'm late to the game, but a few fact-checks: -There are 27, not 28 amendments to the Constitution (this has been well-established in other comments) -California has 53, not 52 Representatives (you're leaving out poor Susan Davis of San Diego!) -While you added the picture of Montana, you totally left out Delaware in the list of states with one Representative As far as errors go, discussing politics and government invites lots of cringe-worthy invective when numbers are even ever-so-slightly off. That said, I love Crash Course and look forward to watching the rest of this series soon!
Joshua Meltzer I have seen Crash Course History go back and edit errors such as these. It would be nice if they would amend the video with errors so glaring. The number of amendments is pretty basic and often referenced, it should be corrected. California, being the most populous state, is always referenced all the time and should have the correct number of reps mentioned!
Thank you so much for starting this series! My AP Gov test is in 2 weeks and already these videos have helped a lot! I'm just sad the series won't be done before my exam.
I wish every one who considers themselves a U.S citizen should watch AND understand this before going into any political debate. Whether you are right, left, or neither you should understand the basics of your country and how things work within.
Late one night a robber wearing a mask stopped a well-dressed man and stuck a gun in his ribs. "Give me your money," he demanded. Scandalized, the man replied, "You can’t do this - I’m a US Congressman!" "Oh! In that case," smiled the robber, "Give me MY money!"
Somebody on crash course needs to do philosophy. I don't care if it's Craig or John, but somebody needs to do it. Give me Plato, Aristotle, Socrates, Buddha, Confucius, Loazi, Jesus, Jean-Paul Sartre, Friedrick Neitzsche, Simone de Beauvoir, Anne Conway, Gottfried Leibniz, Karl Marx, W.E.B. Dubois, Albert Camus, Booker T. Washington, Rumi, Muhammad, Mary Wollstonecraft, Rabia Basri, Al-Ghazali, Al-Hallaj, Pythagoras, Epicurus, Marcus Aurelius, John Locke, Thomas Aquinas, Immanuel Kant, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Thomas Hobbes, Voltaire, Kierkegaard, Machiavelli.....
As someone from across the pond, I had no idea what the difference between the two houses was, other than that senators appeared to be more senior. 2 year elective period must mean congressmen (and women) spend their entire time on the campaign trail, and I can see that this may lead to showy displays over important discussion. I also seems to make it very easy to completely stall legislative progress in the second half of the presidential term, which is actually more harmful than useful. Really enjoying the series. Good job wheezy!
I’m a sophomore and we don’t take government classes until senior year, but I’m still gonna watch this series so I can get a better understanding of the government.
I love that crash course is delegating (more content), since John and Hank must be quite busy, BUTT, it brings us to the similar problem why CGP Grey doesn't do it, the possibility of a decrease in quality. I'm not saying Mr. Benzine is doing a bad job, well it's a big project with hardworking script writers, producers and editors and such, yet I have to say he is quite distracting, I really like him as comedian/host, but I mean, Hank is not easily replaced. Real Hank Green, please show up, please show up.
As a Danish exchange student, who is forced to take us government, having never studied it in Danish schools, these crash courses are incredible. Before I start high school in America I will hopefully know as much as possible about US government!!!
You know a discussion of government is goona be great when it starts off with "Speaking of acting like a little kid, let's talk about the U.S. Congress." X) Craig, I like you. I like you a lot.
Love this series Craig, and I love what you are portraying. With that said, I don't care for the Foghorn Leghorn impression for founding fathers or politicians. When I want to show this video to others to help them understand issues, like I do with other crash course videos, it makes you sound like you are making fun of them, rather than trying to do a joke. Otherwise great work, keep it up!
I had very real concerns when I first saw Craig make the jump over to crash course - I'm glad to see his really rather childish humor being used in such a mature way. I'm sorry for doubting you mate.
Great initiative! I have a couple of concerns which I hope will represent useful feedback for you: 1. Is this going to be an extremely US-centric series? As a non-US watcher I don't mind learning a bit about US politics or having them used as an example, however if all we're going to do is just talk about the US government, with no international range, then I'll have to pass on this series. 2. I personally enjoy the humor in this series, however especially in sections where you're quoting text I think it would be a good idea to tune it down a notch. Those texts are as is already quite heavy and hard to follow, having them read to you with a silly accent makes them virtually impossible to understand. Reading them in a helpful way, with intonation meant to communicate which segments are of particular importance, would result in a much more efficient method of delivery, for me at least. Best of luck!
1. This isn't Crash Course Government and Politics, it's specifically Crash Course US Government and Politics. As another non-American, I find it interesting to learn about, so I will be watching it. Though I would really appreciate something similar for a few other countries. 2. Honestly, I've found the humour in this series really…well, bad. I like the content, but I'm not a fan of the delivery at all.
Sebastian Anderson Crash Course usually tackles subjects that are present in the U.S. A.P. courses, and here we don't really learn about other countries' forms of government.
sugarholic14 most of the Crash Course videos are like that, even the ones with the Green bros, but you get used to it, I like some humor because it keeps me more interested
+TheNeveFringe 2 months late but whatever - the TL;DR of it is that we have two different 'houses', that is to say, two different groups of people (just like yours, with your House of Lords and House of Commons). All states have 2 senators (people to represent them in the Senate), and states get proportional representation (more people = more representatives) in the House of Representatives.
I enjoy watching crash course they don’t make me fall asleep like my irl history teacher, these episodes actually helped me get an A on my test! THANK U CRASH COURSE!
Oh yea, near the lady with the red shirt. I wouldn't say that's quite left corner; more like center-left (which seems appropriate, given where he stands politically, XD).

You know a discussion of government is goona be great when it starts off with "Speaking of acting like a little kid, let's talk about the U.S. Congress." X) Craig, I like you. I like you a lot.
I am looking forward to using this as a resource for AP Government.
Check out HipHughes History too; I have 40 or so APGOV vids!
I love his hosting so much! I'd complain about how it's more fun than education but this is government and it kinda needs to be fun.
INFINITY GAUNTLET!! Marvel for the win.

CrashCourse, Subscribed because your videos are always awesome!
Eeeeee! It makes me so happy to see Craig on Crash Course!
I hope you'll talk about different examples of government, not just America's.
I believe in Craig Benzine. He's the hero Crash Course deserves.
My brother thought this was Vsauce
Don't do my man vsauce like that
I had very real concerns when I first saw Craig make the jump over to crash course - I'm glad to see his really rather childish humor being used in such a mature way. I'm sorry for doubting you mate.
I love these videos! Please make more!
Bravo Craig & Nice People of Crash Course Government!!!! That was chock full o' info!!!!
I can't believe Thanos is a part of the bicameral congress
On my road to a four on the ap us government test. I'm excited that this playlist exists
if pro = good and con = bad, what is the opposite of progress.
congress
YES! CRAIG IS HOSTING CRASH COURSE! I may actually finish one of these now.
Great initiative! I have a couple of concerns which I hope will represent useful feedback for you:
Jim Cullen Never hurts to check out another edu channel.
Jim Cullen I find it funny that you two are the exact opposite of each other. Also, enjoy our government.
Sebastian Anderson Crash Course usually tackles subjects that are present in the U.S. A.P. courses, and here we don't really learn about other countries' forms of government.
Other countries have governments? Weird...
I couldn't even get halfway through this video. This guy was trying way too hard to be funny every 5 seconds. I just wanna learn stuff.
He's actually pretty funny. I guess you don't appreciate his kind of humor.
sugarholic14 most of the Crash Course videos are like that, even the ones with the Green bros, but you get used to it, I like some humor because it keeps me more interested
As a Brit, i am completely lost O_o
You Brits also have a bicameral parliament. The 2 cameras are the Lord's and the People's
Verodoxys ahh ok
Same I am Australian
TheNeveFringe some of us Americans as well
Sending love from Vietnam, I’m so delighted being your patriot for 4 years
Q: What's the difference between the government and the Mafia?
A: One of them is organized.
I enjoy watching crash course they don’t make me fall asleep like my irl history teacher, these episodes actually helped me get an A on my test! THANK U CRASH COURSE!
I love to see how craig loves being on crash course :)
I love the detail of the Infinity Gauntlet collecting more and more infinity stones.
Am I the only one who is in love with this theme song?
the birds at the end annoy me
i'm not even from the US and i love this series!
California has 53 representatives in the House, not 52.
if you guys notice at 1:39 in the left hand corner you can see burney sanders
Oh yea, near the lady with the red shirt. I wouldn't say that's quite left corner; more like center-left (which seems appropriate, given where he stands politically, XD).
I like Craig as a host :)
2:39 That binaural closing door sound effect is so realistic that I would swear each time I hear it with headphones that my chamber door to my right is being closed!
Doesn't California have 53 reps?
The 'Eagle Punch' may just be the best power-move in the history of youtube.
Please, no weird clone voices. It makes listening difficult, especially when they have so much to say.
I have a huge AP government test tomorrow... If only you had made this series at first so I could have all of the info I need in this playlist 😩😩😩😩😩
