𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝘀
The Tigullii inhabited the area of Val Fontanabuona and the present Tigullio Gulf up to the Portofino Promontory. This population of Celtic-Ligurians inhabitants of Portofino, were, as early as the 8th century BC, quite evolved and dedicated to trade and trade by sea with other populations of the Mediterranean.
According to Pliny the Elder, during the Roman Empire the village of Portofino had the name of Portus Delphini, between Genoa and the Gulf of Tigullio due, perhaps, to the large population of these animals (dolphins) in the gulf of Tigullio.
The village was mentioned in a 986 diploma by Adelaide di Borgogna, wife of Lothair II of Italy.
A document in the annals of Bernardo Marangone, dated 1072, mentions the unsuccessful assault of the naval fleet of Pisa, an act successfully opposed by the inhabitants of Portofino themselves.
In 1175 the small fishing village was subjected to administrative control, together with the adjacent Santa Margherita Ligure, of the free municipality of Rapallo, which bought the rights to the village for 70 Genoese lire on behalf of the Rapallo consuls.
Starting from 1229 it became an integral part of the Republic of Genoa, as well as the entire Rapallo area, now the seat of the local podestà, becoming almost a refuge for the Genoese merchant navy thanks to...............

I can't thank you enough for pouring out such good videos every week. Portofino is amazing, beautiful place. Andrea Bocelli gave a concert and sang his famous "Love in Portofino" in 2012 at the Piazzetta near Molo (Pier). I heard you can walk from hear to Santa Margherita Ligure, it's near by. The "Lighthouse of Portofino" is quite an expedition to take. I always enjoy seeing the Cathedrals and churches. Have a blessed weekend, Riccardo.
Dear Esther thank you so much as always for your kind words. The concert there must have been paradisiac I reckon. It's a strange mix Portofino, a "posh" and "vip" place on one hand, on the other, it can be seen as a very neat typical ligurian town. A bi-faced entity , quite particular. Love churches as well, I always try to film there wherever I go, as I just love everything in them, apart frmo being a spiritual place,one can "feel" a lot about a place I think.

This town is absolutely amazing! Such scenic beauty throughout and stunning views. The buildings and houses are gorgeous and looks to be well-maintained. The architecture of the Church is stunning and Castle Brown is such a majestic building. That was quite a walk to the Lighthouse but I am sure it was worth it. Another great video and I must say that I enjoyed this tour very much.😍

I don't have appropriate words in English to express my view for this wonderful film and the paradise called Portofino .☺☺.If I use my mother tounge it would have been a poem . Sea , sky , clouds and nature all around has stunning look. You have pictured it so beautifully . Even last 10 minutes are amazing , so calm and peaceful . Portofino is such an amazing place. I was only there for a few days. Was supposed to be there in 2019. Riccardo you are doing a great job this is one of my favorite channels still. So I'm going to let you know my jealousy level is a bit high. Thanks again Riccardo.
Dear Lawsonartzy, as always, Thank you , really! I liked Portofino very much. I had some memories there when I went years ago with my (then) girlfriend. It was nice to re-view some of the places, though a little different and something changed. Liguria is a mix of colours and atmosphere; I liked it very much. I would like also to visit towns that are located "in-land" and not only the coastal ones. Maybe I'll make it not too far away from now... Wish you a nice weekend my dear friend

@@StillWanderer I love the walk up to the castle and lighthouse. The view from there is beautiful. As usual, your video is superb. The walk along the promenade is interesting as it's people watching (I do enjoy this, for example, I like watching people at the airport). Drone introduction was excellent as usual. 😊👍

Margaret thank you so much! Portofino is really beautiful... I think that in half a day you can see most , I showed basically all of it and it took some 2 hours or so. Very small but beautiful place

Is there ever a time during the year when the townspeople have the place to themselves w/o tourists? I realize they are dependent on tourist $ for their livelihood, but imagine they'd like it all to themselves once in a while - a quiet, peaceful, beautiful spot w/o the traffic.
I always thought the same Sharon, I don't know really... it's a very famous and touristic place, so... maybe during the "low-season" period, from Autumn to Spring, but I'm not entirely sure!
