There are some very good points in this video that ascertain Moiraine's being one of the key players in the whole story. She was certain that Rand was the Dragon, and did her best to keep him alive and hidden from the White Tower (Aside from Siuan, the Amyrlin, and her best friend). Also in beginning to teach both Egwene and Nynaeve the use of the OP in TEoTW, before they even got to Tar Valon. Forcing Rand to realize that he truly is the Dragon, then trying to help him with this newfound power which she can't teach him. And then after a very prolonged absence in the last half of the series, she turns up again to be one of the pivotal key players, without her, the outcome would surely have been much worse. Very much respect and admiration for Moiraine.
As always, a very comprehensive analysis! Moraine is one of my favorite characters. Thank you for giving us some of your insights on this beloved character.
Nae'Blis, I think Moraine was a very apt first character edition. I look forward to hear what you have to say about me when you cycle through the characters again. ❤️
Nae'Blis yes! She is the perfect choice. Like you said, her presence is felt in the books, even when she is not in them. I think Amazon was on to something by making her such a main focus of the press release.
I find Moraine as a flexible Aes Sedai. Her relationship with the wise ones. She displayed excellently dignity. And I feel she was very brave Lan called her a worrier and you can read how would fight Trollocs and the eyeless with courage. There was a point I found funny when she was speaking with Rand and he called her little sister when she knew she had to go to the docks and fight Lanfear. She was one of the bravest character in this series. I just love her. She did everything for the benefit for Rand and not the tower. What she did as more than brave she was a legend. I’m glad she made to the new age and I think she is spending her time traveling with Tom. I just wonder how she and Cadsuane the new Amyrlin are getting along lol.
I am enjoying the comradeship found with fellow readers around this book series (that I've read EVERY YEAR since 2006 - until all the books were completed). I own the hard back, mass market soft backs and even bought the kindle version so it would be easier to cross reference by using the x-ray feature, kindle highlights and bookmarks. all 15 of the books are with me constantly, and on hand for my pleasure and perusal at the tap of my finger on my kindle's screen. This story is full of depth, heartache, frustration (people are so stubborn and they don't talk about - the things that they really should talk about - like right now). I still love the characters deeply even though their desire to be the right fighter has caused more drama than necessary. However, at the end of the day, the reluctant heroes and the fussy healers, the hesitant leader and the semi-mad savior along with his group of wives and loyal friends and followers dedicated to the light, makes this by far, hands down my most favorite series of all times. I'm in happy Nerdville with the announcement of this show and planning on staying here as long as I want.
Bloody buttered onions, I think she actually knew the weave already, instead of just weaving unknowingly it by instinct like some of the stronger channelers like Nynaeve do sometimes.
Wow! Absolutely amazing video. So glad I found your channel. Subscribed! Would love a character Examination of Matrim Cauthon :) Keep up the good work!
Moraine did not see an ability to lead in Siuan but Siuans ability to see patterns, her talents best suited to get the data points from a network of eyes and ears.
it is explicitly said in new spring that Moiraine is thinking "Siuan was born to lead". but it's not anything deep as a power fight between them, it's a simple thuoght she has.
Who doesn't love Moraine?! :) Great video! I can't decide who I want to see you do a video on next. I personally would like to see you rotate between subjects. Characters in one video, Nations another.
I also like her immaturity in New Spring, and her love of mild mischief even after receiving the shawl -- as per her frustrated attempts to punish Lan for dunking her.
This is really great. You should consider doing one about Nynaeve. I hated her on my first read through, but I gained much more enjoyment of her character on subsequent reads. She's of a similar drive of Moiraine, though her dedication is to protecting the core characters who originate in Emonds Field. Despite her being a yellow for her natural talents in healing, she easily could have been at home among the blues. No matter how deep she gets into Aes Sedai culture, and how much she is forced to participate in tower politics, she carries an independent streak that rivals Moiraine. Like Moirain, she also makes considerable mistakes in her arc, especially with her Two Rivers stubborn streaks when it comes to recognizing when she screws up. (SPOILERS BELOW) She is one of the only people that Rand trusts implicitly, and while I don't have a perfect memory of it, I'm pretty sure the only times he doubts her motives are in bouts of heightened paranoia which he still quickly dismisses. When Rand requests her aid for a certain monumental task, it's because she's literally the only one he can trust for it (allowing her to control his channeling momentarily to form a circle, utilize the most powerful Sa'Angrael, and aid him in cleansing Saidin. Also, when he decides to go to Shayol ghul he asks her along. Her loyalty to protecting Rand is admirable and I think it's one of the things Lan loves about her. Not to mention she's a formidable channeler. In addition to the act mentioned above, she *captures* and controls Moghedien for some time, and is frequently mentioned as one of, if not the, most powerful channeler in the one tower. I believe only a single windfinder (whom I can't remember the name of) and Alivia are mentioned as more powerful channelers.
Hated Nynaeve at first, but by the series end, she was one of my favourite characters, and like you, on rereads I have come to appreciate that the things I hated about her at first, are things that makes complete sense from her perspective.
I think she is a great mentor character and like Gandalf in LOTR she is a wizard (of sorts) and much more powerful than the main characters initially. She is wise but not all knowing or all seeing. Her power level is not so great that you ask why she doesn't just over power the enemy and you don't see the other characters as irrelevant. In some ways she reminds me of Cable from the X Men comics. A mentor who combines knowledge and power but needs the help of the main characters. She is probably my favorite WOT character.
I can't find any videos on this subject in your archives but it would be an amazing mini series if you did deep dives into the Ashamen, who was strongest and who inherited most of the taint. Their backgrounds and other fun facts.
Nice exposition of one of my favorite characters. Moiraine at one point calls Tom a bard. He denies it, presumably because he doesn't want it known. This tells me that she knows more about his past than most of those around him.
I'd like to see Padan Fain and/or Verin Sedai. I'm sure you'll do all of the main characters, but these two were always interesting even if they had a tendency to pop in and out a lot.
I want to watch these videos. But I'm only on the first book near the end. I really like Moiraine. I guess I'll be back in a year or two after I finish the series!!!!!!!
I have a question, in a new spring Moraine to used the power specifically she used Air, water, with touch Earth slam the pond water to hit LAN. However, Aviendha used Water, and Air only to put out the fore in The Gathering Storm chapter The death of Andrin. If anyone has an a wet please let me know. Thanks.
Only halfway through the eye of the world but so far she's my favourite character. I haven't watched the video due to spoilers but i just wanted to say that.
Rand doesn't have a mom. Moraine is his "mom" and so of course he separates from her and then develops an appreciation for her like children eventually do when they grow up.
She's my favorite character, but almost ties with Nyneave. Loved this breakdown, thanks. The only real difference between our views seems to be pronunciation, like me pronouncing Siuan as Swee-ahn. Looking forward to more!
Domina Dracone I’ve always had different ideas about pronunciation as well lol. For these videos, I try to go off of how they pronounce them in the audiobooks, but even there Kate Redding and Michael Cramer seem to have different ideas about different characters haha

I was really liking this vid bc she is one of my top 5, but when you threw up the "I love you Sam Elliott" I bout died laughing. Always hear him when I read Thom' story line. Thanks!
I think she will be revered by all for the work she has done, she will travel and advise where she thinks necessary. Probably have a bunch of kids with Thom too fulfilling his arc.
I really do like Moiraine, but I have two questions about characters: 1. What character did you like in the beginning and hate at the end (light or dark) and, 2. What character did you hate at the beginning but end up loving in the end? To answer my own questions, 1. Perrin (such a whiner), and 2. Matt (I think the dagger influenced him in books 1-4). On a separate statement, I really did not like the entire arc of Egwene. To me she became the "I have the power, so therefore I am always right". Never really learning from her mistakes, I actually felt a relief when she died, I would not have to read any more about her.
Michael Murphy I would say I agree with you on Perrin. I didn’t dislike him at the end, just became bored with his plot line, which I think is a fairly common opinion among readers. I would group in Egwene here as well, because I don’t like her, but I do think she is well written; other than one thing, which I’ll Be covering in a future video so I’ll save that for then. For someone I didn’t like at the beginning but loved in the end, I would say I agree on Mat, but I also think he was written that way. I liked nynaeve far more in the end of the series than I did early on as well
@@NaeBlis mine was hated Ishmael at the start(hate overpowered human villians) loved Moridin at the end. Loved Mat at the start. Haaaated him at the end lol.
Liked at the start, but hated in the end: Perrin or Egwene. Perrin's arc was just not fun after the first 4 books, and Egwene rubbed me the wrong way after book one.... Hated at the start, but loved at the end: Nynaeve, The braid-tugging anger machine made her my most hated in the start, and pretty much up until she runs off with Rand in WH. On rereads I have come to appreciate her position in the early books much more, but she still gets on my nerves in them (her, egwene and elayne. I have pretty much skipped their chapters on rereads).
I think what happens afterwards is that Moirain lives with Marelyn, but is called up now and then to the white tower if an accepted chooses to be a blue ai-sedai or for discussions. She is after all at the end of the series the last blue ai-sedai left and therefore default it's leader...
Only upto 3rd book in tbe series but yes her presence is very important. I just keep wishing she was more upfront and open to the 5. Yes they are teenagers in the book, but she tells them so little. Nor does she seem interested in their various occurrences. As yet even Selene has not been mentioned to her. Which lravrs the 3 boyz open to her wiles

I've noticed people saying this before but I'm curious if you have anything to indicate that Siuan and Moirane were actually pillow friends as opposed to some suspecting that they were? The only time I remember pillow friends being used in reference to the two of them is when one of the Aes Sedai claims that the two of them are pillow friends to another Aes Sedai and Moirane overhearing and being insulted.
Another fabulous video! The one thing I would say is that Moiraine finds out she will marry Thom from Min when they go through Baerlon; that’s why she’s so certain he’s not dead when Rand tells her that Thom died in Whitebridge.
What i like is her romantic relationship with Siuan. Against the grain, pioneer. I was sad that she lost her power level fron the Finn. I don't understand that she had Thom marry her. She, obi won, yoda, Gandalf favorites
Oh, well I'm not on Twitter, but I would've liked continuing with diff national histories. When I think about it, it's pretty hard to start a wheel of time channel and NOT talk about Moiraine, though. So, while it's nothing new to me, it gets a pass.
don't worry, there will be plenty of Cultural Profiles to come. i'm getting a few of the series I want to do started and then I'm going to rotate through.
I would have thought that a vision from Min is the reason she knew she was destined to marry Thom, the doorway in Tear doesn't make much sense unless it was stated and I missed it

Maybe she got bound to the horn if anyone is a hero its definitely her.
Thanks ... I really appreciate the amount of work it took to do these videos ...
She uses Balefire for the first time against the Darkhounds while they are fleeing Illian.
Mothers milk in a cup
Bloody buttered onions, I think she actually knew the weave already, instead of just weaving unknowingly it by instinct like some of the stronger channelers like Nynaeve do sometimes.
Nice summary and analysis. I enjoyed it. Also brought back the emotions that I felt when reading those events.
Wow! Absolutely amazing video. So glad I found your channel. Subscribed!
Would love a character Examination of Matrim Cauthon :)
Keep up the good work!
Great set of videos. Thank you. I am not on Twitter but I would love a character breakdown of Lan and a discussion about Malkier.
Just starting my 6th rereading, and I have to say that I am thrilled to have found your channel.
further outstanding work, keep it up man.
Love the channel and your content, keep up the great work!
I loved Moiriaine so much. I was disappointed with the books because when she was rescued, not much else happened with her character.
Great work!
love her. Awesome character. A perfect way to enter the Randland without dumping expositions.
This was great! Great graphics and visuals. Extemely informative!
Kelley Coleman thanks so much Kelley. Appreciate it!
Just discovered your channel & love it!
Rand wasn't bonded to Moiraine & Nynaeve at Shayol Guhl, they were linked; big difference.
Yea, I caught that too. He usually catches himself.
Glad you gave the red spoiler alert so I did not watch this YET. Moiraine Damodred is one of my favorite characters of this series.
I really truly hope I'm around to see this series become a TV show..its in pre production
This is fantastic! Great job!
I have been a fan of The Wheel of Time for quite a while and I was excited to see videos being made about the series.
hi, I really liked the aspects you use to examine the character. Great video and keep it up! subscribed
Love ur work
Who doesn't love Moraine?! :)
Great video! I can't decide who I want to see you do a video on next. I personally would like to see you rotate between subjects. Characters in one video, Nations another.
I have a couple other series I want to do as well, but I'm certainly going to rotate around between subjects. thanks for the feedback!
I also like her immaturity in New Spring, and her love of mild mischief even after receiving the shawl -- as per her frustrated attempts to punish Lan for dunking her.
I quite literally cried when Moraine fell through the arch to what I assumed was her death.
Moiraine used Baelfire on the Darkhounds when escaping Illian as well as killing Be'lal, unless i'm mistaken, but i"m pretty sure...
one of my favs with one reservatuion
Love your work Thxs
Well done
(SPOILERS BELOW)
She is one of the only people that Rand trusts implicitly, and while I don't have a perfect memory of it, I'm pretty sure the only times he doubts her motives are in bouts of heightened paranoia which he still quickly dismisses.
One of my favourite characters. I loved her so much I named my cat after her.
She is probably my favorite WOT character.
first time watching you and it was a real treat :) I subscribed and liked God Bless
Oh ya, she knew exactly who he was the moment they met in Emond's Field.
I'd like to see Padan Fain and/or Verin Sedai. I'm sure you'll do all of the main characters, but these two were always interesting even if they had a tendency to pop in and out a lot.
Verin especially. She's my favorite
Verin was brilliant. By the way, that dress you're wearing is green. How to say so much without actually saying it.
I want to watch these videos. But I'm only on the first book near the end. I really like Moiraine. I guess I'll be back in a year or two after I finish the series!!!!!!!
Like, Commented, and Subscribed!
I like this examination ❤❤❤
I cant find one Siuan Sanche
I have a question, in a new spring Moraine to used the power specifically she used Air, water, with touch Earth slam the pond water to hit LAN. However, Aviendha used Water, and Air only to put out the fore in The Gathering Storm chapter The death of Andrin. If anyone has an a wet please let me know. Thanks.
Different cultures learned different weaves for the same effect.
Better than I could do
That was great. Thanks :)
I've never listened to an audiobook, but that makes sense.
Domina, if you want a free audiobook, look in the description of my videos. I have a partnership with Audible.com and they will give you a free audiobook with no obligation. Pretty cool! Just click the link in my description.
It's ironic to made video about Moirain with name Nae'Blis. But, this is so good one video. You said everything. I love her.
I was really liking this vid bc she is one of my top 5, but when you threw up the "I love you Sam Elliott" I bout died laughing. Always hear him when I read Thom' story line. Thanks!
Can you start this series back up? I really like this style of video from you!
Just did one of Cadsuane ha
@@NaeBlis Yay!!! Keep them coming!
I think she will be revered by all for the work she has done, she will travel and advise where she thinks necessary.
Probably have a bunch of kids with Thom too fulfilling his arc.
Admirations on everything you do. Your channel is the best thing in the WoT after book 14. Could you please share which video editor you use?
Final Cut Pro
I would group in Egwene here as well, because I don’t like her, but I do think she is well written; other than one thing, which I’ll
Be covering in a future video so I’ll save that for then.
Matthew Smith I think overpowered was just a matter of the comparison to our heroes at that point in their journey
Can you do Rand? He has the best development in the series
Me i half way and 💘 her so much.
At the end i think she went home and at last had a family and let time take her.
Great vid, but Moiraine knew she would marry Thom long b4 she used the doorway. Probably from Min.
I agree
nah. she wasnt sure in the letter whether she would escape
So boss!
What are all these cool comics images from?
The Wheel of Time comic book series. I know it exists but I am yet to read them myself. Sure you could find info on google.
i want to see how they handle the the cast and main events. i dont want rubber trollocs. perrin smirks and stops weaves. lan vs demandred, beating the foxes.. and how well will the martial arts be?
To be fair it has been a while since I read the books but does not Moiraine use balefire on a pack of darkhounds while they chase Rand. Right after Perrin picks up Faile and continuing his killing streak? Might be wrong though. First time killing a Forsaken at any rate. ;-)
You are partly right, iirc she kills a pack in Ilian with balefire, so some weeks after picking up Faile.
@@MrSmokinDragon Oh well, so I was a few weeks off. But if I remember correctly it is still before the "first time" in this video. Again I might be off because how long has it been since I made this comment? ;-)
Edit: Doh, I AM an idiot, it says so right up there! A year, really? Well, at least I got a reply to it. Better late than never. :-P
@@signaltome Oh, you are correct in that, just the timing was off, but not by much :)
@@MrSmokinDragon Hehe. What is a few weeks late between friends? :-D
Not blaming Nae'blis though, he is seldom wrong. All human, allowed to be wrong if making effort etc.
Lol alotta ppl wanna ship any two females they can. Especially in the WOT series.
There were hints of this in the new spring novel. It takes place while they are accepted.
Moiraine and Allanon are my favorite characters in fantasy books.
Agreed! Allanon is my favorite character from Shannara
I thought Suian Sanche took the first angreal back when she came to Fal Dara.
Great Character breakdown. How about Paddan Fain next? Or Mordieth, whichever. If you don't think it'll be detrimental to your health, that is...
What about an examination of Satelle Anan.
It was mice not rats.
nice video
Another fabulous video! The one thing I would say is that Moiraine finds out she will marry Thom from Min when they go through Baerlon; that’s why she’s so certain he’s not dead when Rand tells her that Thom died in Whitebridge.
Moraine, Nyneave, Lan, Mat...in that order.
She is basically the opposite of lanfear in character, deed and ability.
He was too calm when discussing how Moraine and Suian were smashing!
What i like is her romantic relationship with Siuan. Against the grain, pioneer. I was sad that she lost her power level fron the Finn. I don't understand that she had Thom marry her. She, obi won, yoda, Gandalf favorites
Anyone know how long Rosamund Pike is under contract for the show?
Most likely for Years her character is at the and of the story.
Is Tom Merylin Merlin?
Can somebody get this to Rosamind Pike? This series should be required curriculum for the players in the series.
If only the show was based a visual version of this...
I would have thought that a vision from Min is the reason she knew she was destined to marry Thom, the doorway in Tear doesn't make much sense unless it was stated and I missed it
Is the game of houses ‘Daes Daemar’?! I’ve lost all my books due to a house move - I had the whole thing - all of it - spent ages waiting for Sanderson to finish it, read it, and lost all of it in a house move. If I could channel balefire then climate change will be on me 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
