    The RPi5 is a nice step up, but still feel that the OrangePi is a more capable device with twice the cores. more memory and a built-in NVMe slot.

      OrangePi is definitely a nice kit. I might have to grab one to compare

    I ordered one the moment I heard about it. Thought it would come out end of october, but I'm still waiting for mine to be delivered.
    BTW: you might wanna look into the volume of your outro, compared to the rest of your video. I'm afraid my neighbors are sitting right up in bed... >_

    I don't know what distros you tried on the pi4, pi zero w or the pi zero 2 (what I have) but all the ones I tried (and I tried at least 5 not including Raspbian and Raspberry Pi OS) had shutdown in the menu.
    The only firmware that did not was OpenWrt and that loads into the ram and does not use the storage after that so pulling the plug is not a problem.

    That power button. Now instead of sticking my finger in the fan, I can now fat finger the power button trying to plug something in too. lol I got mine Wednesday Pi5 4GB. Do not rush to buy one. There isn't much software specifically designed for it yet. When Retropie drops for it, that will be when chaos hits. If you want one on the side to image OSes it does that really fast having full speed on both 3.0. SSD or better is the way to go. I'd like to see Twister OS get updated to work with it, that was my go to OS for the Pi4. It's like XP I can't get rid of it. I don't think Pi5s will replace all of my Pi4s. We'll see with the software. The lack of a headphone jack really screws with the portable side of things.

      Hmm sticking your finger in the fan still seems like a power move. Going to try it :)

      @@dasgeek I have this one cooling block with a single fan in it. It looks like you can grab it without touching the fan, really it's more impossible do anything around it without hitting the blades. It doesn't hurt but it jolts. I considered putting window screen over it. It was one of the cheaper fan options, but it cooled well. It fit my portable DVD player Pi4. I flipped the screen around on the hinge to get a tablet that stands on it's own. 7" HDMI touchscreen replaced the original perfectly. Used a couple of laptop speakers, the internal ones. Consumes too much power to be a great portable. The screen and audio circuit, plus overclocked Pi

    It's a pity they threw out most of the hardware video codecs. It makes it harder to play UA-cam.

    • @dasgeek
      @dasgeek  7 місяців тому

      I believe it still supports HVEC or h.265 hardware encoding the rest is software encoding for h.264 etc. Haven't run into any issues playing UA-cam on it. Suspect it's a licensing/cost issue

    Demand has increased it's price. It's not as good a deal as it once was.

      Rpi foundation are a charitable foundation. They’re not scalping. The price increase reflects inflation and costs they’re facing. There are also still previous versions available down to $15
