Two weeks ago Audi UK gave me one of their brand new 2020 Audi RS 4 Avants for a week, I thankfully managed to film a few videos on this car before we got the lockdown rule here in the UK.

Hey man. Love your videos and watched you for over a year or so now. Never commented before but felt I had to. I just feel it was a little too insensitive to mention that times are hard and the needless plugging and that you’re making zero money from the day job. I know this was recorded pre-lockdown, but it could have been edited out. Just be careful as I stopped watching at that point and actually did a thumbs down in anger! So others may have to. (I’ll change it now as I feel bad!). We all in bad time bro, all of us. And most of us can only dream of the things you get to do. ❤️ be safe 👍
Nice car and I think would have one of these over the RS6, just think RS cars are going very expenive in comparison to other quick cars. I rekin one of these a year to 2 years old would be a great buy and still in warrenty
Surely unless you need the space of a bigger car this has all you'd need, personally I think it's a fantastic package. Love these drive videos Joe.

Great video Joe. I think RS4/5 is the pick of bunch. RS4 being more practical Those 0-60 figures are super conservative. I managed officially timed 3.6 seconds on Conti sport 5. Have upgraded to Michelin PS4S, even better..
I drive the RS5. The first gear ratio is very short. That makes it super snappy. Love it...

The RS4 came before the RS6 and is a more special car imo. If you ever get this B9 RS4 again give us a shout and you can do a twin test with my B5 RS4 if you like compare the original with the latest

You always give the most detailed review. Love it. Audi just brought RS6 to US. I personally don't think it's a good decision. RS6 will cannibalize Panamera's sales and compete with E63 AMG Wagon for a small market. If Audi have brought RS4 or S4 Avant to US, I guess many Golf R and base Macan buyers may upgrade to RS4 or S4 Avant...
They could have put that "useless ashtray" further up and put the cup holders closer to the shifter (essentially switch the positions) so large cups can fit in the cup holders. As it is, the switches sit too low for a large bottle or a large drive through cup to fit.

Joe is the ~£20K odd price difference warranted between this and the m340i touring? I’m an Audi fanboy but the bmw is such a compelling package and much cheaper. Granted these are not comparable motors but still curious to get your thoughts.
Really hard to say mate if I'm being totally honest, the M340i has a more functional cabin with better tech and fits all driver's, yet somehow the Audi cabin still remains the more special cabin. In terms of straight line pace, the RS is obviously quicker, but not by much... They both handle well, but this is the area you feel the main difference in my opinion, the Audi is definitely better and more planted 👌

I think it is a shame s4 changed to disel. I think when it was petrol it was closer to the bmw.
Leeku powerwise i don't think it is. You can get the same performance from the m340 by modding it while spending under 2k and still being very reliable.

If RS4 could have all technology from new RS6 keeping the same RS4 weight it would be perfect car but not realistic. Thats why i prefer RS4 its smaller and lighter.
Suspension soaks up the surface imperfections but those wheels and elastic band of tyres are really vulnerable. 80 grand, hate to think how much depreciation after 2 years even for a lower spec car. So expensive. Don't think it's justifiable at all. Quality video as always Joe.
The real difference between RS7,6 and 4 is really just the size. RS7&6 are for bigger families with a dog.
RS4 is for single people, who look for sporty functionality car.
I'm childless and single, and I am considering a RS4 myself. Currently driving a Mazda CX-3, which I am actually really happy with after 5 yrs. But sometimes, you want to move on.
The Cx3 has this 'Sport" button, and by clicking it, it actually transforms into an GTI. Very impressive, and you wouldn't think that of the Cx3..
However.. I appreciate your videos very much. Always well explained and there are no questions to be answered after watching.

This engine was actually used first in the 2017 Panamera 4S. Good stuff, love the content!
Still sounds lovely even with the PPF in the exhaust, love Audi as a brand, the interior in their latest cars is second to none.

a much better design than the rs 6:) and quantum leaps ahead in the cabin..
So if they offered it with a manual gearbox, it would be the perfect car :) Say what you like about shift time, slightly improved 0-60, better stop-start comfort in traffic - for driver involvement nothing beats a manual...

This makes me so proud to own a 2019 B9 RS4... Love my car, and I came to it from an R8 V10 plus!
That thin vent under the bonnet looks cack; it looks like the bonnet is open. Audi still taking thee piss on options with their flagship cars.
Shame the MMI controller had gone because I’m not a fan of touchscreens especially when driving. The digital dash is loads better than BMW’s. The engine produced good numbers but it doesn’t pull at the heart strings in the way the V8’s did, especially at 8250rpm!

I used to drive pre lifted version for few days couple of days ago in this amazing Simona green.
Car was very nice and even great to drive even if it was different then my M4 as we expected to be but was very positively surprise.
There were unfortunately two very annoying things compere to any good premium car not even performance one.
Audio sound was absolutely terrible and seats very not good. Otherwise it’s a great car if someone wants to own performance Audi.
What I mean is, performance Audi it’s always everyday car in estate version that look more like typical family car in positive way.
If u want performance, RS4 is a bit slower but feel same fast than RS6 but better car for performance reason because u can’t fight physics.
If u want more Audi then performance u better end up with RS6 and if u want show off it’s RS7. 🦹

Watching this in 2023 these prices sound like a bargain. Fuck me how things have changed so much so quickly.
Firstly, great drive/review mate 👍🏻 loving the channel.
I know it has a tonne of extras but 80-90k bracket is a huge price leap and puts in the sights of a few decent Porsche’s, not to mention you could get a good spec 1 year old M5 Competition for that kind of money - they’ve priced it out of its bracket when the previous 2017/2019 model rarely went above £73k
I really like it but there are better options for that kind of money IMO.

An honest review. Yes its a flyer and I nearly bought one. But the ergonomics, layout and that TV screen - sorry I just could not fork out another 20k over my glorious M340i touring - which is as quick to 100kph, better tech and sits below the radar. The B3 Alpina is no quicker to 100 but from then on - boom! I look forward to that test Joe - a car I would love to buy but too difficult to source down under. Next gen RS4 could nail it - we will see!
I’ve been looking thru audis new car search and there are a few available now mainly around VIC and NSW. Most people want the SUVS tho which is a bit unfortunate and is the main reason why these are hard to find

The removal of real switch and other analog controls is getting out of control. Even car companies that I though we completely focused on the driving experience and ensuring attention and focus on your surrounds (looking at you Porsche ) are going down this stupid path. The main controls need to be manual, people are going to die fiddling around with settings while driving. Oh BTW new fan and subscriber Joe, really enjoy your content

They fucked up the grille again. Just like they did when they went from B8 to B8.5
The front is untypical ugly.

I like the pre facelift version. The new front end is not as aggressive. The touchscreen only MMI is terrible.
Better than an RS6 on UK roads, yes I think so....the RS6 can only just fit in a public parking bay....and on those type of back roads the RS4 is better proportioned for driving enjoyment... Is there any lite hybrid stuff on the RS4? like the RS6.
I'm 24 and have just bought my first sports car. Bought an RS4 from 2014/2015 with that naturally aspirated V8 and I'm sorry after seeing this I know you buy it for the sound and the instant push and damn does the 4-5 year old version put a bigger smile on your face...

Big fan of your channel. I was just rewatching this old video as I am considering buying the RS4; probably going fwd when you review cars consider also shooting how they maneuver through the urban jungle as well (parallel parking, speed bumps, reaching for parking tickets, etc)

The reason why that engine/gearbox isn't slow to respond like the one in A6 Allroad (and almost every other new Audi) is because that car doesn't have that awfull mild hybrid system.

Love the RS4! Such an amazing car... I’m just not as big of a fan of the new front bumper. Looks too much like a S4! I miss that horizontal „bar“ (in either black or silver). Made it look much wider

Great review Joe. No need to spend £82k though. Get a basic one on 19" wheels and a few extras. With a discount will be c £65k.

If I could have only one car in my garage (and a bit of money...) this RS4 would be probably at the top places of my list. Just the right size for an estate car. Not so convinced by the infotainment screen. Thanks Joe for your honest opinion as always!

Sad to say, I think the pre-facelift with matt aluminum trims on a darker color looked better and more aggressive..
Love this wagon I don’t mind Audi ditching the V8 in favour for a 2.9 . Both red and orange aswell that sonoma green are my firm favourite colours 👌

Touch screen way better than the "knob" control without the touch screen. The previous non touch screen made android auto completely useless.

Welcome to 2020, I'm guessing your RS 3 is more than 18 months old, regulations have changed loads since 2018.
Wouldn't go for a red one myself, but the RS4 wagon is as sexy as a family wagon gets. 😎

I hate the fact Audi has gone all touch screen the swivel wheel Is far more practical and it’s even more effort to keep having to raise your arm and touch the screen !

Thanks for taking me on this drive with you, I absolutely loved this review, and more so the RS4 car. The cars sound makes me smile from ear to ear. From what I can see is that launch and throttle response is amazing. I just love the launch control and RS button on the steering. What a beautiful car. If only I had one 🙈
