I was born in the 60s, and my brothers and their friends used to make trucks and wood carts, yes, and they always drive them wherever they go, and yes, we were living in the country. I used to play these games, but I don't remember most of them. In those days, we used to be children, then, with manners and respect. Down memory lane, thank you for this video.
I am an 80s baby and I played a lot of the games you mentioned. In reflection, they were games that prepared us for life! How to socialize, compete in a civil way and understand that someone will be better than you, but it's all right and that there will be something that you'll be good at. A nuff girl get impress with these games and also, nuff kiss got stolen with that 123 red-light game, after school bell ring. Hahaha. High school games involved 'draft' and 'money football' until we start playing the real football in between recess and after school. In my earlier teenage years, I discovered that I was very creative at kite making. I made them all! From the 'bone' of a coconut tree, to 2 inch wide bamboo frames, at times, 10 ft high, 6 ft wide, with a 100 ft tail for stability and zingers that was louder than any Leyland Truck. I'd set it for sail and it'll be there from evening until morning. That was the peak of my creativity as a young man growing up. All good memories though. Gwaan do the right thing boss! Excellent job.
I use to make kite with my exercise books with bamboo sticks we use to tear little splits in the book page by making it look like x pattern and push the bamboo sticks through splits . The song she is talking about go dung / down a Manuel road gal and boy fi go Bruck rock stone 🎶go dung a Manuel road gal and boy fi go bruck rock stone🎶bruck them / dem one by one bruck them two by two bruck them 3 by finger mash don’t cry memba/ remember a play we a play 🎶. Kareem you are a darling to be bringing back my childhood memories the only sad thing about these memories that make me sad is my mom , my Dad , my GRANDMA AND all their kids and friends are all gone including some of my friends ,😢 . This is why we should cherish the our family members ,friends and neighbors we must love ❤️ live and laugh with each other because after a while we will be just memories
@@dubsounds 😂 what on earth is chocolate leaf kite ? I’m a kingstonian born and raised so maybe 🤔 that’s why I don’t have any idea what that is or looks like 😂 😂 so please 🙏 explain
It’s sad as I played these games but can’t remember the rules and details. 😀. Some I do like Brown Girl in the Ring. We even had Ms. Jamaica contest. Jacks and many other games thought you quickness/dexterity. I was v/good at it. You learned so much ..team play/how to resolve issues/negotiation skills. Taking turns.
Love this! We also use to play dandy shandy and baseball also hopscotch. Those days were the best times of ourlives. Juice boxes were our balls. Thanks for bringing back the nostagia.
The one with the stones is " Go dung a Manuel road gal and boy fe go bruck rock stone gal and boy" you sing these words while everyone sit in a circle and pass a stone from person to person as fast as you can without squeezing your fingers under the stones
My favorite game was marbles in any form: Bunks back, ring and taw, shots and spawn..u name it, I was very good at all a dem. We used glass marbles, smooth stones, steel balls. I used to keep my winning marbles in old paint cans (had them stolen a few times by...not gwine call him name) but one pastime I haven't seen mentioned here. My friends and I can't be the only ones who did this...We used to pluck these long plants (Can't remember the name of it) we would beat it with a stone to extract the liquid out of it, plait it like hair, tie it at the end to make a whip. The sound that it made when you cracked it was quite satisfying!
😊we play marble and gigs in school I always make my own gig as a youth with guava tree 🌴 in Jamaica stoney hill St Andrew the best time of my life growing up in my beautiful country Jamaica we use to go mango bushe in the summer time in stoney hill
That's is called buy bird, buy bird in and out the window. Show me your motion challa. Riddle me this and Riddle me dat. Tag a war, Ketchy pushy, and jumping jack.
I made the one with the string, central wooden rod and two wheels. I also used to make the carts that had a seat. Also made the tissue paper kites with bamboo.
Dandy shandy...when you stuff a milk or juice carton with newspaper...one girl on each end..a girl in the middle..object of di game is you dodge (sight)the ball❤ VIBRANT LUV 🇯🇲♥️
Made gigs out of 🥑 seeds, truck out of drinks box and used fishing line to steer it. Kite out of black plastic bag and coconut leaf spine. Whole heap of things we used to make.
I am in my 80th and I remember all of the games we the girls play when it's moon shine nights and the dance that the lady is talking about wos there is no beds for the hankers
We use to make kite with tissue paper, coconut leaf and mix flour to make glue to stick it...1 2 3 red light we still play with the kids lol... chiny skip, marble, hand clap games. I loved seeing the trucks made but never made one.
Happy New Year Kareem and Miss Cecile! I pray you all had blessed holidays. So glad to see she is well and back. How old is that tree you're sitting in front of? It looks historic. Is it a tamarind tree? I remember some of these games. This took me back to my childhood days. Such an innocent time where we would interact together. Wow! Kids these days don't have these treasured memories. All they have is technology and video games. They are so deprived. 😐
WINSTON; For school boys, we made wheels , we would cut a piece of an old rubber hose , for joining we use a piece of wood keeping it as a circle , then we use of galvanise wire giving it a u, shape at the botting which was used to guide the wheel as we run!
This is one of my favorite kids' games .( WE'RE camping through the rocky road, right through, right through the rocky road. Said the gal 👧 me no love, me no chat to them, right through ,right through the rocky road 😂😂. This one, we formed a circle with one girl in the middle going around while we sang the song 🎵 until she picked the one she loved. That goes on until everyone gets their turned 😅.
Walking on stilts. Also stuck in the mud aka stucky. And when I came to Kingston, we used to play a game called 4 goal football on our avenue - 4 players, each guarding his goal while trying to score in someone else's goal; sometimes two players team up to score on someone else; anyone who gets scored on has to leave the game and someone else comes in; the goals (marked with two stones) are positioned north, south, east and west, with two of them in front of someone's gate and the other two in the road. Big up Pembroke Hall and mi teenage idren dem.
"I know I'm going astray from the topic, but who remembers these drinks and snacks for lunchtime and recess? Triangle carton chocolate milk, cherry milk, Canada Dry drinks, national homemade biscuits, HTB bun and cheese, Tutor Fruitie cupcakes, Nutty Buddy, sandwich cake, icicles, fudge, and more."
In the 70s primary school we play My pretty playmates come out and play with me, we played jax at Providence Primary School it was a burning ground we used clean off the tomb and fight over it. Yo-yo too, base ball, dandy shandy, sailor boys, sailor boys where are you going? I’m going to the country of the red, white and blue.
Brown girl in a ring Tra-la-la-la benefits: exercise, team work , fresh hair, follow instructions, memorization, socialization. No wonder this lady has such a good memory.
Remember, all who born on January skip around...? Make a circle, and whenever your birth month is called, you skip around in the ring. Now everyone knows what month you're born.🤣

Bread in the oven baking where one person would stay in the middle and the others held hands to form a circle😊
