Also; feel for hot surfaces with the back of your hand. It's hard to crawl on blisters.
Not only that, but if a knob is electrified, checking it with your hand may cause an uncontrollable clench. If your palm is on the knob, you're holding on involuntarily. If you check with the back of your hand, the contraction reflex takes your hand away from the knob.
At least, that's the reason I was given when I learned it. Have not had to test it yet (knock on wood).
Very true!
Also, make sure to close the window or door behind you (don't lock it) to help prevent the fire from getting more fresh air to spread even quicker.
I wish all training videos were this good. I didn't fall asleep once during this training. Love it!
An awkward extra step added in my family's fire plan: make sure there is an escape route without smoke detectors or doesn't require hands so my crippling phobia of alarms doesn't trap me in a burning house.

You forgot to include rescuing the coffee.
How could we forget?!?!?
No no no. That's part of their new roasting technique. Give it that little extra pep to the flavors as it reminds you that you saved the grill.
this is completely wrong. the first step is always to delete your browsing history.
Or have a solid bro who will throw your whole computer in a tub of water while it is plugged in.
You know, in case you get stabbed protecting your bro's fiancé from a random crazy on the street.
Im pissed i just discovered this channel. Its like brcc but public safety. Shit is super funny and informative
Yay good job Jason
I thought you weren't supposed to stop to grab your treasures before you go. A BBQ can be replaced!
It was already outside and he moved it away from the house because the propane tank is an additional potential source of fuel (at least that's what he told his wife).
@@HariSeldon913 Solid reasoning!
edit: plus, you can grill something for the fire crews after they put out the house.
@@HariSeldon913 very solid reasoning: our neighbors house burnt and their propane tank on their grill caught fire as well and went up. I never realized what the term ‘roaring fire’ meant until that night. Scared the hoohah out of all of us.
Oh look. It took 45s to explain everything that others take 45 minutes to do. Success
Fire escape plan . Throw heavy piece of furniture through window ... Follow said piece of furniture .
@FireDeptCoffee I have a fire question. Is hiding in a tunnel during a wild fire safe or would it cause a fire spiral effect?
How bout just panicking and covering yourself in barBQ sauce
So you get cooked by the fire and are covered in BBQ and will just be laying there when a bunch of hungry firefighters show up? I'll pass.
yes that can work, but only if you also wrap yourself in aluminium foil as well. need to keep the juices in.
If a door has a METAL handle, feel that, since metal conducts heat faster than wood.
Correction, don't touch metal, it will BURN YOU if heated up, but you can generally feel heat from it without touching. Also, if there's fire on the other side, you'll feel it without touching, you could even wrap your hand in a shirt or other cloth, just be VERY CAREFUL as adding injuries to your egress isn't good.
Having done a bit of the 'ol firefightering myself, watching Jason plant the palm of his hand firmly on the door hurt me deeply. . .
Ah thanks but I usually jump from the window, it’s safe faster and efficient 😂
Do they not still teach this in school now days?
