I think my favorite thing about this episode is the fact that Rose's dad isn't even a great guy. He's wasting their money on get rich quick schemes and failed businesses, he's accused of cheating and is implied to not be doing much of the work raising his baby, he and Jackie probably would've broken up within a few years. But he still loves Rose above all else, and is brave for her at the end. And in spite of seeing the reality of who he was, Rose still loves him because he's her dad. I just love when shows allow their characters (especially parents of main characters) to be complicated people.
An underrated episode! Despite the tacky CGI (which was actually incredible for a 2005 British TV show at the time), I DO think the Reapers should come back! There are many episodes we don't see them when they SHOULD have appeared, but essentially this can be explained off! Sometimes I forget this episode exists which is sad because out of ALL New Who episodes, this is one of the ones with the most depth!
An underrated episode... the first to hint at how well written this show becomes... this shows greatest strength is its variety... u never know what you'll get, scares, feels, tears, ancient Rome, 60s America or some far flung space battle in the future... (and the effects get better each season as technology improves and budgets increase due to the shows success.....
I just found this channel and I really hit the jackpot. Doctor Who, Supernatural, One Tree Hill, Grey’s Anatomy. All the shows I love!(and still finding other shows) I’m watching all of these reviews simultaneously lol. Now if you start Downton Abbey I’d lose my mind lol.
I have like a love and hate relationship with Rose there are times where she is Annoying and selfish. but there are times where she's caring and smart at times this episode made me realized how interesting she is how how she has grown during the series.
I recently found your channel and I’ve been binging your Doctor Who reactions. It’s my absolute favorite show and I can’t wait to see your journey. I appreciate the content you’ve been putting out. It’s been a great distraction for me. My wife and I lost our daughter a week before she was due in January and I’ve been really struggling since then. I’ve tried to keep myself distracted as much as possible and your videos help me escape for a little while. I love reaction channels. As part of my therapy for dealing with my grief, my therapist suggested I find something that makes me happy to put my free time into. I’ve considered starting my own reaction channel. I was wondering if you had any advice for someone who doesn’t know what they are doing? But anyway, thanks for the content that’s helped me escape from reality.
I know this is an old comment but I've just discovered this guy's reactions. I hope you and your wife are doing okay. Just wanted to leave a comment of support.
@@hanonhold Thank you for the support. We are doing alright. In fact, we are almost 18 weeks pregnant with twins! Holding our breath till they get here. Wish us luck!
Yes, this is when things really started to get interesting. Yes, the creatures were a bit silly - I would have preferred some sort of 'effect', maybe just randomly zapping people into dust or something - but the story and the acting from all the main players was excellent.
I suppose they didnt have much of a budget with this one, and it's quite easy with the church and stuff but I truly dont think this one is about the monster!
@@TheManInBlueFlames Yeah, they didn't get much of a budget until...series 3, I think? Once the BBC were confident they had a winner they could throw money into.
@@TheManInBlueFlames absolutely! before you know it you're almost crying when they switch to a new companion :( and when Billie Piper shows up in cameos in later seasons it's so hype but also bittersweet at the same time
@@channyh.221B people with that narrow of a definition of 'spoilers' would do better to not go online at all ever until they've finished watching the entire show imo. the fact that companions switch is a well know constant aspect of the Doctor Who series. A later cameo can be literally anything from flashbacks to earlier parts of the story over re-appearance of an old character all the way to introductions of a new character altogether. There were literally multiple newspaper articles (by the BBC among them) being widely spread online about Billie Piper making a re-appearance on the show when it was about to happen. If that's a spoiler to you, that sounds more like a you problem to me.
When it comes to Doctor Who the bad special effects whether it's bad CGI or campy you can easily look past or get away with it does not matter the bad special effects is part of the show's charm what really makes the show is the storytelling. If you think the special effects in the new series is outdated and campy wait till you see Classic Who 😂. The episode was ok it's not really a favourite of mine but it is considered a fan favourite and really popular episode i just find Rose irritating and i'm not into the big family drama stuff i think those kind of storylines should be left in soap operas. I do love the scene where The Doctor finally gives it to Jackie when she keeps questioning his authority.
I love how some Doctor Who episodes are very touching and emotional and make you cry, and some are just silly and funny, and some do both.
Yes !
I think most are designed to do the latter!

I think they work better as a one off villain, I'd rather them be like this than be watered down like the Weeping Angels.

This is one of my favorites.
Gets me every time. I love her dad. 😢
I love that episode, campy effects and all. Reminds me why Eccleston is my favorite Doctor. Great reaction -- I'm glad you're enjoying the show.
Definitely one of the best episodes in Doctor Who
This episode makes me cry every time 😢❤

One of the *best* episodes of Series 1.
God, that scene near the end. I cry every time.
"Who am I, love?"
"My daddy."

I love this episode. Gives all the characters, even Mickey, a little bit of complexity.
With the new doctors changing things these should be happening all the time XD
Oh the next batch is pretty good. Buckle up.
i love this episode so much. really made me warm up to Rose too, who I initially found rather annoying
Liked her more after this too
She gets REALLY good in season 2!
