Im a tad bit apprehensive about bending the half round sideways and also about getting the angles on the decorative trim bits right to fit tight

Hello- I wonder if you can make a video about how to make a cylinder like the size of a big bullet- for a charm around a necklace- that will close? A lid with a tube clasp that opens or perhaps another mechanism?

Very nice bracelet. I kept saying to myself, just use a mandrel to achieve the same curve twice...just before you did 😂. Some of my best mandrels are empty prescription bottles....recycle when you can. Great video!
I think I usually get the 28 gauge, but I have used thicker at times. 28 seems to work well for most things I do on a regular basis. Isn't that an interesting stone? Love blues and greens. Thanks for the question!

@@argonabis The one I use primarily is a Smith Acetylene/air torch which I love. I don't have a ton of experience with other brands, so maybe someone else can add some advice about other torches in the comments?

Thanks Molly! Some of it ends up as freeform castings, decorative balls, etc. Occasionally, I cast some of it into ingots to either use for thick stock or to roll into sheet or wire. Some ends up getting sold back to Rio for new raw materials:)
Hello Herman. I have a couple of friends who have used it, and they like it. I haven’t found one that has as high a silver content as hard solder. This isn’t to say one doesn’t exist, but I haven’t run across one. I would love to try one if someone makes at least a 75% silver paste solder. What percentage is the one you use? this was super helpful! i might give it a go with my butane torch and just turn her up all the way and see how it goes! I do have a question when you were setting the stone you added some packing behind it to get it closer to the top of the bezel ... what material was that?
I’m interested in knowing more about the flux spray. Do you mix your own and use your own spray bottle? I haven’t seen any spray bottles I liked or trusted would hold up.
I just use a cheap spray bottle from the grocery store. They will eventually gum up with flux, but you can empty them, soak them in hot water and clean them out and it usually unclogs them:). Even doing this, you probably still need to replace them periodically.

I bought a journal before and it had faint pictures on each page and you were suppose do your drawings over pictures, that's why I ask. I think I'm going to buy one of your books here soon. They actually both have the same dot-graph paper, just slightly different cover designs Tammie. I was surprised how much I liked it for sketching out ideas. I’m not super good at drawing, so the dots really help me to keep things in proportion. I hope you like it as well as I do!
Morning Chad! Just noticed this great video and tips, wish I seen it yesterday before I made a cuff bracelet with 2 8gauge 1/2 round wire which I tried to put couple tabs at end but because my wire was twisted a bit (now I know!) it wouldn't solder correctly so I made paddle at each end with my hammer, looks pretty cool though I think! Was going to use 3 12.5x17.75mm turquoise cabochons but am using 1 instead (making earrings with other 2) because I felt a bit intimidated about setting three on bracelet. My designs change as I go along it seems! You only pickle after all soldering done but I thought the silver would be too dirty for more soldering if you didn't pickle after each soldering join, guess that's not true. So, I should leave bracelet flat and set stone or stones into bezel before shaping on mandrel? Most video's show that stone is last procedure, another untrue thing! Can you make a video setting multiply stones on bracelet? After I finish setting stone and cleaning up bracelet, I'll send picture if I can figure out how to do that!
Good morning! Thanks for the compliment:). The reason most pickle between steps is they are eliminating previous flux. Many people carefully paint flux only in the spot they want solder to flow in order to keep it from flowing other places. Once that solder joint is done, they pickle and then paint flux on for the next join. That way is pretty standard for most people. I’m kind of the odd one here for hosing things down with flux:). As far as stone setting last, you can go either way. I usually set the stone and then polish, unless it’s an Opal or some other easily damaged stone. The trade-off is that without a stone in your bezel, it’s easy to catch it on the polishing wheel and tear it. oh wow I've been part of that crew and now I know why I've been having a bum time with that! And it so frustrating when solder doesn't flow on pinpoint I set up! Alright, tmoro I am skipping that stuff and going full blown flux
My understanding is that self pickling fluxes supposedly do not need to be cleaned up in pickle afterwards. Personal experience is that they still need to be cleaned up in pickle:)
Curious what type of torch are you using, it looks like a Smith Silversmith but I notice you are able to adjust the flame on the large torch head. I use a Silversmith but cannot adjust the flame.
I love your content (I've been binge watching all night). But I hate your sound quality (sorry). I know you've been working on it, and I have absolutely no ideas that involve technology, so I have to think low-tech. How about placing a rotary cutting mat on your table? It will deaden some of the sound and it is a very sturdy surface to work on. It also has a grid on one side that helps with measuring or lining things up. Not sure you'd be able to solder on top of it, but I think you can figure out a way to make it safe. I use a large mat on my work table, but I don't solder at that table. They even have small mats at Dollar Tree!
Thanks for the good advice Kathy! We are saving up for a clip on mic which hopefully will help to counteract my tossing around of tools noise:). My current microphone is clamped to the table I work at so it transmits a lot of sound. I will look for a good safe surface like you suggested and implement it if I can. Hello Biggertom! I do things a bit unconventionally. I use hard silver solder for pretty much everything. I will occasionally use a bit of easy if I have a really sketchy final solder joint:). On this one I just used hard.
Could you explain in a bit more detail what your left hand is spraying as you heat your peice. Is it liquid flux ? What type of flux are you using and the types of solder throughout the entire soldering process. Many thanks gor your lovely eork here which you mske look so easy . But isnt. ❤
The liquid flux I use is My-t-Flux that I get from Rio Grande out of Albuquerque. Battern's Self pickling flux is essentially the same. Only hard silver solder for this piece.

Hey Chad have you ever tried using silver solder paste ? It has silver dust and flux in it and is easier to use than sheet solder pieces.
