    The Alpine Butterfly is a bonus knot that's great when you don't have access to one or both free ends of the rope. It creates a fixed loop in the middle of a line.

    after watching this no less than 12 times I still cannot make it work.
    The part where the knot is drawn together happens too fast and does not
    show how the knot completes itself.

      You can run the video/animation frame by frame as you follow along with your own knot. Great website for learning knots
      Keep 3'-4' of cord in your pocket and practice when you have a free moment. If you don't keep practicing, you will forget how to tie the knots. I used to know the Alpine Butterfly, but I haven't tied it in 10 years so I have totally forgotten how to do it.
