That underhand loop to secure the running end to be used for others things is amazing! Ive just started using the Truckers Hitch for stuff and never really understood it. Your video is clear and simple. Thank you!
New hammock camper here. Been getting everything together to go on my maiden hammock camping trip in mid July to North West Arkansas. I have been watching all kinds of “How to Tie Knot Videos”. By far, you are the easiest to understand and follow step by step. Thank you for making this easy to follow video.
I didn't know you could make a bowline this way! Always made a bowline and used that loop to attach it to the tree with a slipknot. This is so much easier! Quick and to the point as well. Thank you so much.
I agree it's pretty cool but you can do the same thing tying the bowline conventionally. Make a "six" (a loop) in the standing part (just turn the standing end to make the loop), run the bight end around the tree, pass it up through the loop in the standing part, then run it around the standing part (left or right--it doesn't matter) and back down through loop. It's "the rabbit jumped out of the hole, ran around the tree, and jumped back down the hole" method, but the "tree" is the standing part and the loop that goes around the post is the bight end.
The Bowline / Truckers Hitch is SUCH an effective combination. Easy to learn, easy to set up fast, and not to be overshadowed... easy to disassemble when done!
Long time ago, but this young lady did an excellent job explaining her knots, the bowline was very well laid out, and the slip knot with the keeper will come in handy for everyday use
Now i'm really happy about UA-cam. You did this video 5 years ago and today I learned from you I have watched several other videos for this hitch Your version is by far the easiest and the fastest to do. Also your version of the bowline is very cool!
Knew about the trucker's hitch, but thanks for that stick idea. All these years and I never thought of that one. Then when I saw you do it I about facepalmed myself unconscious because it was so simple. Also making the bowline that way was new to me too. Thanks.

I've watched this video damn near a dozen times in the past week. Your bowline, halter and truckers are the best explained and best methods I've seen. Hardly any reason to tie a bowline the old fashioned way. Boyscouts done me wrong. Thanks for this one. Can tie these your way in a quarter the time it used to take me.
I'm so glad you like it! Boy scouts are doing their best, and at least it gets folks out there and playing! Perhaps you can take this method back to them and spread the love! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Much appreciated!
Wow... I learned both knots as a scout and now I am a scoutmaster... Like so many other comments, my mind is blown with the Bowline. So simple it makes me ashamed to admit it..lol. From this point on, no more "rabbit around the tree ". This will be how it is taught... thank you
Ah! Bless you! When I teach knots I ask if any of the folks know the bowline or remember something about a rabbit and a tree. If they don't or seem shaky, I teach it this way instead. Some still prefer what I call the "boy scout" way of learning/doing it, though I call it a snake, not a rabbit! I think for those that really struggle with knots it still has merit! I've been tying it this way for almost 30 years now and definitely prefer it over the traditional method. I'm happy to spread the magic. I recently heard a great name for it: the "snap" bowline.
I did not know this way of tying bowline. Was impressed. Overhand also fit to fix the loop. Nice teacher. Very clear, very useful. By the way, English for me - foreign language, but I understood almost all words. Very proud.
