The Torah does teach us to not trust those who are not our own. In the times of the Sages we were constantly under threat. We could only trust our own. "Never eat bread with a Pagan". What is important to know is that the Talmud, and our interpretation of the Torah is meant to be amended over time to reach a higher truth as progress happens and time passes. In other cultures who have stolen our philosophies and ancient texts -- they believe that teaching is not meant to be added upon. For this reason, the Torah is not our belief system but only the basis of our belief system. Our text does not define us, and that is because it is truly ours -- we are allowed to criticize our ancestors. For Christians and Muslims they do not feel comfortable criticizing a people they have no connection to, as they idolize our ancestors. We disagree with the ancient Sages constantly, because time changes. What the Torah teaches is up to the individual. If one believes he should hate no man then that is what the Torah says.

I think the Torah is more of a book of history and stories less or so about values

And even about human basic nature, how to use it for the good, how to control it, and sometimes how to accept it, although it may be cruel. The relations between the slave and the master I love the most, as I think that if back then Jews were making laws about the slave rights, it means a lot and says a lot about them as a society.
In the Torah, it instructs we must Not hate. In VeYikra (Leviticus), "you shall not hate your brother in your heart". Soon again it says "love your neighbor as yourself". Also outside the Torah in our many ancient writings, e.g. in Pirkei Avot in the Mishna, "Who is the greatest hero? One who turns an enemy into a friend."
Hillel the Elder (one of the most important scholars/teachers in our history) said: " 'That which is hateful to you, do not do unto your fellow.' That is the whole Torah; the rest is the explanation. Go and learn."
He also said "Be of the disciples of Aaron, loving peace and pursuing peace, loving mankind..."

At long last! The lady at 3:20 points out that all the Levantine people are Palestinian. In the US, Hoosiers, Michiganders and Iowans are are Midwesterners. Their driver's licenses are issued by different authorities, but they all occupy the region known as The Midwest*. Of course, language changes, but changes used to take generations to spread through populations. With contemporary instant communications, there isn't enough time for a whole population to integrate a new meaning before a word changes again.

1. The concept of " bni israel", meaning the people of israel as a group. 2. The attachement to the land of israel. 3. The importance of practicing judisem , especially in israel. Take one of those elements out and its not judisem anymore. These 3 elements are fundamentally connected in a way that is different to Islam and Christianity because other religions are not centred around 1 plot of land.
The torah doesn't shy away from wars and describes how important it is for jews to fight their enemies inorder to settle in israel.
This so much. Because my maternal line came to the US and worked very hard on being Americanized, I don't have a paper trail going back to old Lithuania. So I am converting. The next step after that is moving to Israel to retire. Wish I'd done all this earlier but at least I can live in Israel and bring in a little trickle of money to the economy, live "Jewishly" as it's said, if I have anything extra will donate to Jewish/Israeli causes, and will leave whatever I have when I pass on to the Jewish National Fund or such cause. Hahah and here as someone who knows some Hebrew words (I have so far to go) I thought Cory'd become really good at speaking Hebrew. At least the general sound of his speaking, he sounds much smoother, less hesitating than in his early videos. Funny thing about male/female forms, I grew up and was a young adult in Hawaii where we have lots of Filipino people and they're always, always mixing up male and female. Plus they generally exchange F and P, which leads to some funny local humor. They are such nice people and so well-meaning that the humor is not mean.
Learning a second language is tough. I find second language accents and grammar charming tho.
