This is why I like to see reactions by actual musicians. Good stuff. MISA base playing was all over beautifully. But yeah everyone shine perfectly. Love the harmonies too.
Band-Maid changes and transitions throughout the song is what sets them apart from other bands. Makes them unique. They really don't follow the conventional formula. Kanami's compositions are really remarkable. She is very talented and a genius when it comes to composing songs. Awesome reaction as always. I like how you guys break it down and give your thoughts on the song.
The thing you're noticing with the repeated key changes is that they build the music's energy and tension over and over again...and just when you think it can't go any higher, they do it again. It's a technique borrowed from classical music theory (though there it's usually only done once per musical phrase, not multiple times like here), and it just makes the song extra powerful. Not to take anything away from Different, but I think Cross is perfectly suited to be used for an anime opening. Better in my opinion than Glory. I could see it being paired with frantic mecha space battles, clouds of mini-missiles swarming along with the guitar riffs, and still-frame character poses during the group vocal.

this song was written by a guest composer (whole music and arrangement, partial lyrics). that may be why it sounds different (still holding a B-M feel thou)

Secret Maiko Lips and/or Secret My Lips. It would be interesting to listen to them both at once. The Maiko one is performed as their Band-Maiko persona, the Maids in Maiko style clothing introduce traditional instruments into the song. If you do decide to do both, listen to the Secret My Lips one first. They're both on their YT channel. If you ever come across it "Awkward" that is one I wish I had a link or file to share with you. It's a really, really well crafted song. It has that Band-Maid groove but also like other songs you can tell they put a lot into not only writing it but performing it.
I love how this song basically uses the key change in the chorus to rev itself into another gear. It’s like, “I love this, you love this, let’s do it again but harder.” It’s such a smart and clever technique.
if anything, the key progression really reflects the playfulness of kanamis' song structure writing, as well as sheer confidence, of her own and her bandmates. super cool to listen to

The version of "Play (live)" you reacted to before (I think it was during late spring) is from the zepp concert(I think). The one currently up on their official page is from Shibuya. There are major differences, especially in the first 1:30 of the song, between the two versions.
This is definitely the most appreciative and enthusiastic reaction to Cross that I’ve seen! Some people dismiss it as being too “anime” or generic or pop or people are disappointed that Band-Maid didn’t write this one. But it’s still amazing and the girls as usual make it their own and make it sound like band-maid!
This set is one of their best mixed services. Beats the hell out of the 2020 Feb show as far as mixing. Too bad so many of the best tracks from this service keep getting axed. Hopefully someone will get the links to them to your social media as there are half a dozen of them you have never done that are at the top of the list as far as where they rank for B-M tracks.

I was listening to Conqueror on my way to work Sat morning (on CD not Spotify or on YT) and I remembered why I love that album. MISA and that God Damn bass!
From the live videos on their official channel you are only missing "REAL EXISTENCE" and "Choose me", but you already did the MV for "Choose me" so it's up to you. Of course there are a lot more MVs to check out as well.
Yup the key changes are so random and unexpected there something mesmerizing about it. Not my favorite song but everyone in the fandom appreciates songs like this when they go for more experimental and weird stuff as there is a virtue in doing something different even if it's just for the sake of it when you're as skilled as this girl's. Probably I'm the most surprised with Saiki in this song as those key changes are wild and it sounds like if she was signing the whole chorus on one breath.
An underrated Band-Maid song in my opinion, and awesome with the key changes, the group vocal, Kanami going non-stop with the riffs... Once you get going, it's hard to not mention each maid, because they all did awesome and add to this song.

In your Band-Maid playlist, I didn't see Real existence (live or mv), Daydreaming (mv), Secret My Lips (mv), the Dragon Cries (mv) all English with subs, and Don't Let Me Down (mv) all English no subs.
Wait what? I thought you guys had covered their LIVE videos. The typical top ones are Domination (solid all round display of the bands ridiculously tight transitions.) , Freedom... Akane ... You'll see. Wonderland. Saiki and Miku shows off those vocal harmonies and changeups. Moritorium... Just cuz' its awesome and instrumental Onset (AKA Saiki's pee break"). Really cant go wrong honestly.
According to Saiki they never know a show is going to be recorded until they show up at the venue and see the camera crew. And then they all get super nervous. They’re all really shy and get nervous easily, so it’s probably better to not let them know in advance.
I can't help but think that someone bet Kanami that she couldn't write a song with cascading key changes that still rocked and sounded like a cohesive song. To which she responded with "Hold my sake!" Part of me also thinks that it could've been created from a bunch of different song fragments that they all patched together by committee.
Do to the fact that they do their own arrangements and productions there is nothing in the songs that they don't want to be there or not there. Still waiting on your reaction to Miku's "Rock In Me" do the one with Miku Time included. If you decide on your trip to Japan to perform/tour I learned from a Lovebites interview that most venues have amps and speakers. So you just have to bring your instruments. Learned something new about Lovebites, but I'll wait for a Lovebites reaction.

A lot of the “missing” live performances are still on there. Carry on Living, Take Me Higher, Non-Fiction Days, the better version of Play where you can actually hear Kanami’s guitar, the live version of Puzzle (not the studio overdue you guys heard), Anemone, Don’t You Tell Me (with the guitar and bass battle). The guitar in the mix is a problem I have too. I don't like the sound with this concert as much as the Zep Tokyo concert videos. The guitar is too low in the mix but, on the other hand, you really get to hear how good Misa really is.
Normally you make the change to put more energy into the song, kick it up a bit. Song is good, but they kicked it twice to get more energy into it..... IMO....🤘🏼
