- Lien Gangte was born in Imphal, Manipur to Mangpinieng Gangte (nee Sitlhou) and Paotinlal Gangte. He now resides in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada with his family. By education, Lien is an electrical engineer and works as an independent consultant in the industrial automation software engineering sector.
Lien is a founding member of the North American Manipur Tribal Association (NAMTA) and serves as President of NAMTA Canada. NAMTA's mission is to help preserve and protect tribal heritage, lives and lands. Since the 3rd of May 2023 he has been involved in various efforts to fight injustices in the state of Manipur and bring greater awareness to his tribal community.
He is also an active member of the Global Citizens for Kuki-Zo, a collective consisting of people who have come together to raise concerns against the state-sponsored ethnic cleansing and attempted genocide of the Kuki-Zo minority tribals in Manipur, India.
Lien is a strong believer in the power of the people. He believes that in order for any society to truly progress and transform it must face its external and internal challenges in an open and transparent manner. He looks forward to the day when his people are free from the yoke of oppression and subservience.
