Arif Hussein Theruvath is a true Indian, He knows the country very well, and I agree with him, that Muslims in India are not a minority anymore. Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and atheists are the minorities but no politician talks about them and they are the silent minority. The so-called "secular parties in India, the Communists, Congress, DMK and others want to appease Muslims and they would not go for the Uniform Civil Code which the BJP wants to implement.
They were never Minority from 1947 onwards, only they were Vote Bank Congress implemented Minority Board for them. Sikhs, Jains, Parsi, Jews are actual minority but not vote Bank.

Unlike the USA, Canada, France, the UK, etc, the majority of Indians choose a pro-Palestine leader. You can vote accordingly if you don't like it, but the Majority still does. These countries don't even recognize Palestine, whereas India did it in the 80s.

3. Due to Modi's dedicated support for the Palestinian cause, Modi was awarded one of the highest awards the Palestinian Authority gave, i.e. "Grand Collar of the State of Palestine". Which no other South Asian politicians have obtained.

Arif, you are an excellent communicator. But a little advice. Do not assume that your western audience understand the finer points of Indian society which an Indian understand easily but Western won't have a clue. For example you mention Pinarayi Vijayan without mentioning that he is Communist.
Dr. Ambedkar wrote a lot about religion. Arif is not well informed, well read on this. Dr. Ambedkar criticised Islam in his book on Pakistan. But this book is kept hidden in leftist circles (state) where Arif lives.

The British didn't coin the term Hindu, it was used for a long time, likely from Persians or Greeks which have long and continuous contact with Indian civilization.
He mentioned that Hinduism is a collection of different castes practicing... what? What do they call their practice, what was the name of their dharma?
Call it Hinduism or Indian civilization, there is a common link that connects and pervades the identity of everyone in this region, some common texts and literature, arts like yoga and music, system of medicine, and a culture of religious acceptance and karma. All this is shared between every hindu whatever he believes in one God or many or none at all.
Hinduism is the ethno-religious and civilizational principal created in the continuous interaction and exchange of philosophies both from inside and many that came outside of India.

Arif is someone I know of for sometime and I'm a fan of his sincerity, a rare thing nowadays. Perhaps that's why it kinda struck a nerve with him speaking so fallaciously...
Also if I may expand on Islam's journey in India...
Islam in India didn't remain as "pure" and monolithic as in many other regions it spread many of which now count themself as Arab. In India even among the converted it has to adjust repeatedly to local sensibilities, giving rise to the so called "Ganga-jamuna tahjib" which was simply converted Muslims still practicing or respecting their ancestral culture and customs. Unfortunately organisations like Tablighi jamaat are destroying this and any practise other than wahabi Islam.
Still there were many sects of Islam originating in India which successfully manage to create a more distinct identity of themself internationally.
Among them is sufi Islam, influenced by the bhakti tradition of songs and devotion it looked beautiful on the surface but is very unholy religion the deeper you look, and shouldn't be touched with a ten foot pole...
Other important mentions would be Akbar's "deen-e-ilahi", ahmadiya, and baha'i faith.
While Akbar's dream was screwed over by his great-grandson Aurangajeb, who in his religious fervour abandoned all the moderating influences and returned to the extremist Islam (as it always won't to do with Islam and as long as people identify themself as Muslim ) and committed religious atrocities on Hindus population, thus bringing the end to the Mughal Empire at the hands of Marathas.
Unfortunately the deep conflict it created in society at the crucial moment of arrival of Europeans left the country weak and ripe for takeover.
Ahmadiya or Qadiyani sect was started by Ghulam Mirza Ahmed proclaiming himself as the foretold mehdi in the 19th century. It started as a reformist movement of Islam incorporating a lot of Hinduism (as the kalki avatar) and Christianity.
In temperament it was quite a mild Islam and popular in northern parts like Kashmir. Unfortunately most of them decided to migrate to Pakistan (in consistency with their Muslim identity) where Pakistani President Zia ul-haq ( of Palestine massacre fame) completely outlawed their Muslim identity to a comical degree.
Funnily Pakistan's only Nobel laureate(in science) was ahmadiya, so was Zia's own uncle.
The Baha'i faith is just a hodge-podge of every religion, it tries to spread peace claiming all religions are true but just a cursory look in its constituent religions just breaks any hope of consistency in it. Its jumbled up philosophy also finds wealthy followers worldwide, enough to make many beautiful architectural temples world-wide like the Lotus temple in New Delhi. Luckily it doesn't focus on Islam so much nowadays and as such didn't gravitate to its radicalism.
Arif Hussein was lucky that he was not forced to do forehead pressure five times a day when he was young. His pre-frontal cortex did not get too much damage like the rest of the PEACEFUL community.

I am sorry to say, your guest does not realize Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism) has existed for a long time in India. This is a standard misconception. Yes it is not a religion in the same sense as the Abrahamic Faiths. However, there is a broader notion of Dharma around which everything revolves around. All different schools of philosophies believe in this common thread.
Arif Hussein is well known Ex Muslim in Kerala. He has some truth in whatever he says. He must be encouraged and protected. Islamic extremism is a menace everywhere in the world. A reform in Islam is unthinkable. The globalization of puritanic Islam has swalloed the ethnic Islam. We lost several muslim cultural ethos, world over, because of that.

Onam is a Hindu festival. Vamana Jayanthi is celebrated on Thiruvonam.
The state of Kerala adopted a secularised/ deHinduised Onam., but that doesn't make it a non Hindu festival.
Don't discriminate the Indian people black and white by skin tone with colour,as European do racial discrimination, as racist one do.
Just to correct, Onam is a Hindu festival. It celebrates the story of Raja Bali. We are not exclusive, and we don't mind anyone celebrating it without converting.

Hi Rebecca you might find it interesting that it is Netanyahu who first identified India to be a long term potential friend of Israel way way back in 1990's. During those times our political environment isn't favorable to Israel because of our domestic politics of appeasing M uslims. But Netanyahu had the foresight. This was narrated by one of our eminent journalists called Shekhar Gupta (who runs "The Print" channel and magazine). Apparently Shekhar was in Israel and wanted to meet Netanyahu but he was very busy and couldn't find time until ~3 hours for Shekhar to board his flight. But still Netanyahu particularly called Shekhar and asked him to wait for him. Finally Netanyahu arrived and dropped him off at the airport and the meeting was held in the car on the way. The description about Hindus by Mr Hussain is false. All Hindus worship Shiva, the ultimate God, the supreme one. The caste system was exploited by British. The binding thread of Hindus is Vedas, Ramayan and Mahabharata. The Hindus are inclusive not because of any compulsion but because of the core nature of Hindus religion.
Dr Arif, I respect your movement as a Hindu and i remain inclusive- though you need to do a literature review on H, especially because you are on a public platform.

I do not understand one thing about ex Muslims from Sub continent is that what kind of shame is there to accept the fact that their forefathers were Hindus .... I do not have any problem at all for them to be anything they want religiously and that includes Hindus as well.... Yes, Rebecca you have correctly shown the contradiction in Arif’s statement. You cannot be a Muslim in a modified, watered down, selective etc. manner. It is all or nothing! Koran has all the instructions laid out. The 5 pillars cannot be separated from the book. Your circumstances (outside environment like country or society you live in, personal shortcomings etc ), may pose challenges in following the book completely but your aspirations or goal is always to get there if you want yo call yourself a true Muslim. And that is the tragedy of Islam and its adherents.

Everyone in India is a Hindu. Those who claim to be Hindus worship a deity called Shiva, Krishna, or Vishnu etc. Jews are Hindus who worship a deity called Yaweh. Christians are Hindus who worship a messiah called Jesus. Buddhists are Hindus who worship a gurucalled Buddha. Sikhs are Hindus who worship a guru called Nanak. Zoorastrians/Parsis are Hindus who worship a guru called Zooraster. The only issues are with religions that do not respect freedom of worship of others like fundamentalist Islam and from a previous generation, racially based colonial Christianity.
The Pope and real Christians believe if you worship any deities and Gods then you are heathens who will go to hell. Only those who believe in Jesus as son of God will go to heaven. They believe it is their duty to convert all Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, Parsis in India to Christanity to save them. They do not want to convert Jews and Muslims because they are Abrahamical and of the book like them.

One thing that stands out here is that Mr Arif puts out his point of view firmly/softly. Caste system is a social issue. The pitch for OBC reservations for Muslims pitched by the Islamic parties like Cong (I) & Samajwadi Party clearly proves that it is an issue with the society. Calling the caste system a tenet of Hinduism is a misinterpretation of Sanatana Dharmam; it would be like saying that apartheid or slavery are tenets of Christianity, because they were practised by Christians. A caste system like social construct has been present in practically every religion & culture in the world, from Serfs in Europe to slaves in Islam. Yet somehow It has been linked uniquely & only to Hinduism by outsiders with little understanding of the religion. That & the fact that portraying Hinduism in a divisive manner would weaken Hinduism & allow these outsiders to advance their own agendas.

Mostly I agree. Except that caste is a british construct. The varna and jati systems of bharat are not remotely like serfs and slaves.
