- Today I unboxed my hatchling Hermanns tortoise from TortStork! I hope you enjoyed this video! This is a female baby tortoise that I will get to raise and keep for over 50 years!! Huge thank you to Tortstork for sending me this tortoise as well as giving me very very helpful information!

I’ve been keeping two Herman’s tortoises for 3 years. I’m no expert but I would not recommend have that kind of substrate. It is not normal for the tortoise, it does not erode the claws and is not a god digging medium which tortoises need. A better substrate is 50:50 sand and potting soil. It can retain moisture well and create microclimates which is (amongst others) essential for shell growth (preventing pyramiding). It is also good to plant grass in the substrate to get more moisture. As a side note, you can’t be certain of the gender until the tortoise reaches an age of at least 3 to 6 years.

She really is adorable, I don't think I've seen a tortoise that small. It's hard to not want to bring one home myself but it's such a commitment-decades possibly! But what a trip it'll be w/ her!

As a baby tort consider switching your substrate to a soil, sand and cypress mulch mix. Baby torts like to dig in when they nap and they dig in to get moisture from their substrate, add water to the substrate occasionally so it’s a little moist when they dig in. Good luck very cute little tort.

Awwww I have a Herman’s tortoise too but just so u know it’s extremely difficult to tell their gender at this age when they are about 3 4 or 5 years old u will be able to tell this one is a few weeks or months old

I have one but one from Craigslist they didn’t want her she’s a baby as well so I just a bought one exactly right now another one for her to be with grow with because the one I have now is really shy like scared not even shy They didn’t really take care of her where she was at I’m sure she was passed around so hopefully this one I get can be a little more out there and someone she can kinda follow I ordered from the same place you got yours from😅 and I’m excited it’s a sulcata and yah

She's adorable. Can't wait to see more vids on her. I think letting your mom name her would be sweet. That substrate looks a little better than what u had in there. Might need to take the moss out of that hide she was trying to get into. Looked cramped...? If your mom won't name her, call her sweet pea or cutie pie.

I really want a tortoise too but I’m in college and not at home. The next few years I imagine I will be all over the place based on what I want to do so no where stable. Oh well, maybe one day.

Awe so cute! TIP! You don’t really have to put them in water it’s not at all necessary. They get hydrated by their food! Give her lots of dark greens that should be most of her diet.
Also if her poop is really runny give her some hay I just get alfalfa hay! Hope you enjoy her!

Im not try to be mean im trying to help but u wouldnt use bottle water if she went to drink the waterbot could possible hurt her but if u go to the pet store u can get water conditioner or u can bring tap water to a boil and then put it in a air tight GLASS not plastic jar... But im just saying have a good day with your beautiful tortiose! 🐢💞

you shouldnt order tortoises my guy through mail they could be damaged or hurt while riding even if it highly wrapped espacially if its been there for a long time its dangerous
