    I love my Food Saver! I save a lot of money buying in bulk and have recently added Mason jars to my process. For the Regular Mason jar lids, you have to stack an additional lid to get it to seal properly. I didn't bother buying any Regular lidded jars. I use Wide mouth jars for a simpler process and access to my food. I love overnight oats and fermented foods. I buy in bulk at Costco, Aldi and Wal-Mart. My Food Saver was purchased at Costco when it was on sale, $40 OFF! I have a free standing cabinet for my pantry items in South Florida, no basement or garage. I love having food available to assemble a quick nutritious meal! Crock pot and electric pressure cookers are also part of my process. I use bone broth to make my rice and quick soups. Thank you for the tip on the portable lid sealer, I used your link to get one for my daughter! Her favorite color is blue.

    I have owned one of these for over a year and I have yet to get it to seal over 4 regular mouth jars. I was very disappointed and left a review on Amazon. I am thinking it's the luck of the draw if you get one that works well. Happy your did.

      Alot of others have said the same thing, there are many other similar products, but others who have this particular model absolutely love it. Thats why we only recommend good products. I've done dozens of jars in a row with no problem. The VPO5 works well and is an amazon choice.

    You are doing the right thing Tammy. I listen to a site in the US and people report in to where they live and what shortages they have. You cannot bring in millions of people, pay their way, and think we will have enough food for everyone. The same thing is happening in Canada, shrinkflation, higher prices, and items I can no longer find. I have the black vacuum sealer unit for jars. I don't have the money to save much but I have rice, oatmeal, split peas, lentils, pasta in large mason jars.

    I love my food sealer. My husband just bought me a commercial grade freeze dry machine. It is HUGE and I am really intimidated by it 😬
    We used to watch prepping videos on UA-cam before 2008 instead of Facebook because I refused to get on FB back then 😂
    One of our favorite people to watch was Sustenance and Covering. He sent us our first bit of Jerusalem Artichokes ❤️ My husband became pretty good friend with him.
    We are starting over because we lost our home to a fire. This time, we are keeping our preparations outside of our home in a temperature controlled storage container on our property(ones on the barges).

    When the small mouth jars don’t seal it is because of the shape of the jars - old ones, square ones, etc. Place an orange seal on the shoulders of the jar and use your same attachment and seal it.

    I also Vacuum Seal Many, Many Food Products. I Use Mylar Bags with Oxygen Absorbers and Glass Jars. Mylar Bags are Not Hard to Seal. I Use a Hot Hair Streightner and it Works Really Well to Seal Up What You Want. I Lke the Jars, but They are Bulky and Take Up Alot of Room. Anyway, I Don't Find Sealing the Bags Difficult at all. Thanks!!

    Hi there! I live in a Forest in central Fla.! Can't do a whole lot with all these critters in the forest ,and the bears are in my yard alot so I just don't go out past dark.My son came out his house next to mine across the yard ,and walked right into a yearling, with club foot ,he raised his arms yelled and shook his arms all over and the bear ran up a tree in center of yard lol..There is a mama and 3 probably almost yearnings.
    I have 3 of those chargers an they work great .so nice.I keep giving them to friends who I am showing how to store foods ..and they just find them fascinating..
    The jarliftet on amazon doesnt bend lids its 24.00 now its shaped like a y.. it is a great tool !! Cookwise mason jar opener ,no dents no bending

      Goodness!! That's quite a story. Don't do much night walking outside. Bears get the garbage cans every so often. Our main problem is coons. Destructive little critters. I'm sure you've seen the videos we put out to save the chicken coup and the kitchen area. Just when we think we've got it. They've found another way.

      To easily release the vacuum and open almost any jar without damaging the lid or jar, I recommend a Heinz 57 Baby food jar opener. If you want to see what it looks like, I found mine on EBAY. If you don't have one of these, try a flat bladed screwdriver. Insert under a tab on pickle type store jars or above the top end of the threads on a mason canning jar and turn "like a key". STOP when you hear the air rushing in or safety button popping. The lid should be finger tight now. An L shaped or ratcheting screwdriver works better if your grip is getting weak like mine.

    You have some wonderful suggestions.I thought I heard it all, but you did come up with some new ideas for me. Have you tried putting two regular mouth lids on the jar (top one upside down) when using the food saver attachment. I've heard that works to get a seal.

    I don’t live in the south, but I find the Mylar bags a bit of a pain. I feel safer using glass jars even though I know they can break. (Does that even make sense?) I guess there are pros and cons to both.

      @allaboutliving  6 днів тому +1

      Yes, that make perfect sense. Mylar was a pain for us also. So much quicker and easier. Just keep collecting jars from the grocery store thrift stores and a case every once in a while and you'll be able to keep up with it.😊👍

    Ok, lots of questions... how do u open the jar without damaging the cap? How do u jar veggies long term ? Add water? Can u seal liquid or wet stuff? How is air seal different than regular jaring?

    • @allaboutliving
      @allaboutliving  10 днів тому

      Use your fingers and push hard. Usually works. You can use a bottle opener. Might not save the lid but after canning you should have plenty of them. Not really good for long term. But good for as long is the veggies stay in good shape. Freeze drying veggies is really the only long term solution. Water bath and pressure canning are other viable solutions. Air sealing is good for dry goods. Water Bath and Pressure Canning cook the jar and contain liquid. Hope that helps!! Good to hear from you!! 😊👍

      Vacuum sealers suck. Atleast this one does. It'll suck the life out of a jar!! All the food savers I've been through are cumbersome and I've burned up 3 of them. Had this for over a year and it's going strong. Hope that sums it up for you.
