You forgot probably the most important company of today namely ASML that produces the highest level and sophisticated machine to produce electronic chips.
Literally hundreds of different machines are needed to produce "electronic chips"...
@@herrbonk3635 Yeah I think ASML itself is completely reliant on one German company that makes a type of lense they need. People who say this don't know how fragile the whole supply chain is, there are multiple points where only one company can currently deliver what is necessary
You should also mention the downsides. Illicit drug production (synthetic party drugs) is attacking the public bodies, the taxes are high, the prices are high and the houses to live in are very, very hard to find. Furthermore, if you mention agriculture, there is a huge clash between EU demands on environment and intensive agricultural practices. That will take many years to eventually and hopefully come to a conclusion.
Good Video!
Fun fact Netherlands recently moved up, from 17th to 15th place in richest countries. Shell and Unilever both fusions of Dutch and British companies had Dutch and UK headoffices. Some years ago Shell and Uniliver closed there Dutch headoffice because of lower dividend tax in the UK. But I think the will be back in the Netherlands before 2030 closing their UK headoffice. Philips only produces medical equipment and razors in its Medical Division. All other Philips products you find in stores are produced by others under trademark licence. Other multi-national coporations home to The Netherland are Ikea of Sweden, Stalantis (owner of car brands Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, Jeep, Fiat, Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Citroën, DS, Fiat, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot.) From other US made videos about The Netherlands, I learned that we had a King called William The Fifth (such person is unkown in The Netherlands) and that the dutch bible belt was moved to a province called Noord Holland. This would be breaking news on CNN, but it never happend or is not planned.
Willem the 5th was stadhouder, in fact the last one, but was allowed to take the title of king while abroad. He lived in Napoleonic times.
Small update: Shell hq is now in the UK. Many of the installations are still here, though. It’s just that the money now goes to the Tories.
We do like being in bad relationships, don’t we? Romans, Spain, France, Germany… That French king, a related Bonaparte, we really did like, and the feeling was mutual as far as I know. Which upset dear old Nappy not just a bit.
Stockholm syndrome? Hold my Heineken!
We also like our expats. I can’t keep track of all the yt channels of all the ppl from anywhere, living here and praising our little country. Even the weird stuff. I’m sure it’s not all that blissful, but it’s nice to hear.
We’re also down to earth to the point of coming over as rude. But would you rather hear sugarcoated white lies than trust that we mean what we say and say what we mean? Really really? A spoken agreement is an agreement, even our law recognises that to some extent.
Cool summers. Not really in the east and southeast of the country.
We had 40,5°C a few years ago around the city of Tilburg.
Tweede is pronounced as tway-the
The ogh in Gogh is pronounced as the och in loch.
This video is about Amsterdam, not The Netherlands. At least, all video footage is made in Amsterdam or its surroundings.
Nicely done. Only remark i have (apart from some already mentioned below) is that like always, when people talk about The Netherlands they focus on the western parts. The east and north-eastern parts are always forgotten. They are certainly worth mentioning. In your defense: also the Government of The Netherlands and most people living in the western parts (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, etc.) see these eastern and north-eastern parts as non existing. The latest provincial elections have showen that the people living in these parts have no trust anymore in the western oriented politics and politicians (henceforth the enormous victory of the new BBB party)
Well, though the poster speaks about The Netherlands, by and large the actual content is about Holland. Those latest provincial elections show the parti du jour - whatever problem not handled properly in Holland and just giving rise to yet another political party. - which most of the time will shrink into oblivion once Holland takes notice. Sometimes the consequences are long-lasting, though, like the time when Holland thought voting about the Constitution of the EU was a good idea, while the rest of the country had had enough of the EU blocking progress and retaliated by voting it down. Such is life.
Veel van de onderstaande commentaren, gelukkig niet alle, zijn in erbarmelijk Engels geschreven. Ons onderwijs moet wel heel erg slecht zijn!
The Romans really only got half. Don't blame them, the rest was mostly swamp.
Nog steeds het geval....
1:26 _The _*_nickname_*_ "the Low Countries"_ ... Hmm, that's what "the Netherlands" mean...
(We still call them _Holland_ though, like we did for the last 500+ years or so.)
It's the Netherlands, not Holland! A mistake made all to much because in fact there is no Holland. There is Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland, being 2 of 12 provinces of the Netherlands.
@@celineleblanc4763 So you mean Holland never existed... We stupid scandis have used the *_wrong term_* since the middle ages!!! How embarrasing!!
the hollow lands
The Dutch language is easy to learn because it's related to German an English? Well, the latter is correct, but if there's one language difficult to learn for a foreinger, it's Dutch! Mainly because of our harsh 'g,' which is very hard to pronounce for foreingers because it's almost a unique sound in our language. As far as I know, only Dutch has that sound.
Tweede Kamer, where the gouvernement resides means second chamber, not tweet kamber like the narrator said.
If you ask an American to speak another language, they for sure will butcher the pronunciation😂
@JR it is spelled government, not gouvernement! And oh boy, literally second chamber???? Somebody has to go back to school here!! The correct translation here is House of Representatives of the Netherlands. So please don't go correct someone if you yourself doesn't even know the correct translation!!!
Shell isn't a Dutch company
I will put that to challenge how renowned it is the netherlands among americans for its history and culture. Literally everyone i hear talking about netherlands goes like this : "Did u try shrooms/hoes?"
In order to elevate foreign opinions about the Netherlands, authorities have decided that the red light district in Amsterdam will be moved to a residential area and that our flourishing drug industry will get more privileges and police protection. Because you really do not want that drug criminals get discriminated because they are Moroccan. That's why racial profiling is deemed illegal by the Dutch courts. After all, nearly every Dutch person with an Arabic background drives a €50 000 Audi when they are barely 18 from working an honest job.
Well, did you? 🙂
Shell is moved to the UK. Not Menting ASML the only chip machine-making company.
ASML itself is reliant on other companies, the entire supply-chain is fragile and it isn't like the Netherlands controls it from A to Z
I am dutch. It is always a bit strange to watch videos like this, because it's only one side of the country and history. Living here I have another perception ofcourse and that is more negative, allthough I agree we are a rich country with a lot of benefits. But also in this country the wealth is not evenly spread, a lot of people are poor and depend on the "voedselbank" (where they can get fresh food every week), which is a disgrace I think. Labor immigrants from other (european) countries are treated really bad, they have no rights, their pay is poor and their housing too. Asylum seekers are treated very bad, they have to wait years and years to get a definite answer whether they can stay, and all that time they are not allowed to work or go to dutch classes. We have a lot of problems with drugs, not just the cannabis (which is legalised) but with the so called designer drugs, which affect young adults perticularly. Besides all this: the city of Amsterdam tries to disencourage Brittish youngsters to come to Amsterdam for their (stag) parties, because the people in the city are sick and tired of these drunk, loud and disruptive guests. I really don't like going to Amsterdam anymore, because of the massive amounts of tourists there.
I am Dutch to, but i say Holland is great and rich. A lot off poor people round the world nows that and they Come. We call that economic immigration people. But their now to many people. That's one big problem these days. Their are now more houses for the born Dutch youth. Rest problems, is ground to build houses, the highway logistic is failling, etc, etc, etc.. And yes Amsterdam is great
Only part was ruled by the Romans, all north of the Rhein was barbarian country.
The world is dependent of our cpu making machines, we have a monopoly of the latest technology, the closest competitor is at least 10 years behind.
together with that other tiny country Taiwan
"our" CPU making machines?
I bet you haven't got a clue how such a machine works.
@@franswiggers601 but I do, with that question of yours I’m sure you don’t because those giant machines are setup with modules, all with their own special uses. The most important part is making the light (energy) on the correct wavelength to make sore the sizes as small as they are. That part is almost not possible to copy, taken time it does, but that’s about 10 years. That’s also the reason China doesn’t get those machines to make the last generation chips and are stuck with “old” machines, which btw are still responsible for 95% of the chips used in the world, and even on those machines there is a backlog which is the cause for shortage in the world.
Netherlands was never part of the roman empire, only the southern part.
Romans ?... the Rhine has always been a limit for the Romans. The countries of northern Europe have never really be occupied by romans
The Rhine was not always the limit for the Romans, there have been periods of time where they pushed beyond it.
4:40 you don’t exactly label them as a right part like the us
We in fact only care for they’re doings and how they rule
OMG :) the way you 'pronounce' some dutch words and things like food etc. is horrendous :D no really.....
Stunning landscape 😂
Would you skip number 4??😂😂😂
By the way Tweede Kamer isn't "twee kamer' just say the translation 'second chamber' ... please do not speak Dutch if you aren't capable to do this......
Second...no way 90% speaks English...no way
Third...Amsterdam isn't The Netherlands..lol...
Rotterdam and The Hague are for instance just as important as the capital of the Netherlands
Nederland! 1 land not plural. Belgoum and Luxemburg are indepentend for more thsn 100 years now. So 1 land! Not plural anymore! Nederland is not all flat! Online some provincies are the rest has Hills and we even have an Mountain in the far South.
The prime minister actually isnt that powerful. the "Eerste kamer" decides which rules actually make it through, which exists of 75 representatives
True : unlike UK , the PM cannot appoint or sack any cabinet minister.
That's the king's perokative ( of course suggested by the PM , but they are known to have a mind of their own)
That’s Holland, not the netherlands
boring
