Hi James. Just watched your review of the fire maple stove. I must say that your reviews are really thorough and are amongst the best I've seen on UA-cam, so thanks for that. I have the same stove and absolutely love it. It does struggle in the wind, but as you say a windshield helps that, or cooking in the porch of the tent. Am currently going through your past videos and looking forward to your next 👍

Hi Sean. Thank you for taking the time to leave this comment, and I'm glad you liked this video. The Star X2 is a good piece of kit isn't it? Particularly for the asking price. Happy viewing! 😁 James.

Looks like a great stove especially for the money. Maybe a minor modification.and would be on a par

Yeah I'm impressed! I suppose all you'd need to do would be to slip a bit of tin (around 5-10 cm wide) up under the bottom of the insulated jacket and then lower it to cover some vents, then it'd keep the wind off the flame.

Thanks Arnie! Perhaps it's too cold where you are now for gas stoves!

Hi Thank you for a great review and i think the fire maple stove is great for the price you cant go wrong. A simple windshield would definitely help if the wind increases. Looks like a new stove for me.

Yeah I was really glad to be able to try this stove out. I think we all know that buying cheap kit is often a false economy, but this stove felt properly sturdy without the scary price tag. I'll be using it on a camp very soon! 👍 Thanks, James.

thank you for doing this video, firemaple is really cheap and doing discount right now but I need a stove for windy so it is a pass....

Thanks for your comment. I have tested four stoves in the wind now, and the Firemaple is actually the second best performer! Using a simple wind shield would make it handle the wind better.

Have to say that I’ve never had a piezo igniter fail, my first jet boil was bought in 2002 I think and lasted around 13 years before the burner itself gave up the ghost tho the igniter was still working!
I now use either a mighty mo jet boil or a windburner as depending on the trip I’m doing.

I daresay a lot of it comes down to looking after your kit, which is often the case! I watched a few videos about piezo ignitor failures and repairs after filming this video, to educate myself, and also discovered that they're not difficult to replace if necessary. Always nice to hear from another Windburner owner! 👌

Looks a decwnt bit of kit for the price, especially as includes a stand for other pots / pans. Could use it for cooking bacon and the like. I imagine with a bit if shelter from a tent / tarp when camping you'd be good for cooking.

Yeah I'm really glad I decided to give it a try! I'll take it out into the wild and see what I think of it when I need to rely on it for some nice hot grub. Cheers Kev.

recently purchased the fire maple x3 off amazon for £47 love how it includes the little gadget to add so you can cook. make cooked breakfast n latte whilst hiking. very impressed with it very sturdy n lightweight. seems superior to the jetboil at double the price with no ignition.

Yeah that little pan attachment was a pleasant surprise! It's going to be hard to go back to a stove without a piezo ignitor after being spoilt by the Star X2. So so useful. I'm glad you're enjoying your new purchase 😁 James.
