- The E39 5 series BMW is probably the best kept secret for an affordable luxury car that performs well, has lots of creature comforts, and has a timeless design and a relatively low entry price point. I bought this 2002 BMW 525i sport off Facebook market place on September 25th, 2018 for $2,500. This car had fewer than 86k miles on the odometer with no real maintenance history, which I felt was very low for the year and was a great starting point. The previous owner had spent almost $700 on new tires 10 months prior to my purchase as well as replacing all door seals at a cost of about $500. These cars are by no means cheap to maintain, but if you have a mechanical ability to work on your own stuff these represent a great value, IMHO. A lot of the parts I purchased were from FCP Euro and EBay. I wanted an inline 6 car based on the years of proven reliability; however an automatic was not my first choice. As it stands with the purchase price, additional parts and maintenance items I'm right at $3,600 total cost.
Maintenance and Repairs completed:
-Oil change with Castrol Edge 0W-40 European Formula and Mann HU 925/4x oil filter
-Replaced air filter with Mann C25114
-Replaced cabin filters with Fram Freshbreeze CF10369
-Replaced Exhaust Cam Sensor
-New Power Steering fluid O-ring under cap
-New O-rings under coolant cap, checked and topped off system
-Rebuilt and upgraded DISA Valve with aluminum GAS Kit
-Final Drive Gear lube change with Liqui-Moly SAE 75W-90 includes new fill and drain plugs
-New BMW wheel locks
-Cut and adjust all 8 seat cables to fix seat twist issues
-Added Weathertech floormats
-New Bosch Wipers
-New BMW truck roundel
-Cleaned and conditioned leather seats
-LED License plate Lights
-Angel Eye swap (Ebay kit)
-Headlight adjuster replacement (Odometer Gears Delrin set)
Things needed to complete (materials already purchased):
-Replace fuel filter (Mann WK532)
-Replace sway bars with upgraded Eibach and Lemforder links
-Replace trans filter and add new Castrol Transmax Import Multi Vehicle with BMW LT71141 rating
-Fix Dash trim piece
-Dash pixelation and cluster light repair - Авто та транспорт
This beautiful machine has aged well. The E39 has always been my favorite + the reliability factor is another bonus. I have a 2002 that I still love and drive DAILY. Thanks for your video.
Hi, lovely car and quite a bargain if I may say so...I have the 530i and have owned it for about six years..enjoy your car and hang on to it, e39 prices are on the rise ..good luck..
Ive got my 525i for 3600€ (2001 wth 125000km) in Europe, Spain, five years ago and im happy with it ...its a nice car, strong mecanics and comfortable... and even Cat Stevens is in my list of musicasettes.. lol
Also nice price
Deal of the century.
$2500 for a near $ 50,000 car is a great buy. I'm a 2003 530ia owner currently for many years now, my 5th BMW, two were crashed, one was stolen, E34 530 by a former friend, one E28 sold. I truly enjoy driving mine. It is however very expensive to fix. You'll be needing to do all of your suspension parts very soon if not now. But when you do, you'll love it!!!
Your right on the maintenance aspect as the list is very long on what needs to be done, however, I’m very mechanically inclined so the only cost I should incur is for parts only. That being said those parts come out to about what I paid for the car, so even at 5k all in it’s still an awesome deal in my eyes. I’m very surprised how these cars have gained value the last few years...so should I decide to sell I feel as though I can recoup most if not all that investment while still enjoying this modern marvel. Suspension wise it’s still very tight as I’ve done a through inspection on a car lift and the bushings still look great with no cracking...it will get new sway bar links and Eibach sway bars in the near future and the rear upper ball joint links replaced, other than that it’s rock solid. It hasn’t cracked 100k miles yet and I’ve decided to store it for winters.
wow that's a steal! i love the lines on the E39. Im looking for one now.
I just bought a 2002 525i for $1200. Only 120k.
Thanks for the video. I am doing a little research because I am looking at one with 57,000 original miles. Owned by an old couple that bought it new in 2002 and drove it to town sometimes.
Did you get it??
I love my 2002 525i! Had her for 2 years so far, started with 151,000 miles, now it has a little over 187,000 miles. Only had to change the transmission pump and torque converter (about $500 in parts, did the work myself) at around 155,000 due to "lifetime fill" fluid. Change trans fluid every 40,000-60,000 miles. I also use Mobile 1 0w-40. Sometimes use 10w-40, still experimenting. These cars have a personality in a way, you treat her right, she will treat you right. Good luck and welcome to the family! Also dash pixels are an easy fix.
Trans fluid flush is definately on the list, already bought the parts. I don't believe in "lifetime fluid", nothing lasts that long. That is my motto, take care of it and it will take care of you. I really am loving this car, so solid and still gets the looks!
MrMurph111 man I don’t know what to get this car or a 1999 e55 amg
Crazy e55 will blow this 525i away all day long, now an E39 M5 is a different story. That thing will whip that generation e55
@@doubleq1223 And cost on average probably three times what the E55 is worth!
@@crazye3572 Yeah, two way different animals...If your looking for reliability/commuter with relatively low maintence costs, BMW. If you want sleeper speed but have the bankroll for expensive repairs, Merc.
I’m going buy one tomorrow I been eyeing!!
You absolutely should! Still have mine, 97,500 miles on it now.
Nice find!!
Sweet ride bro
Great car & great value. Thumbs up.
I just got a 03 525i “107xxx” I paid 3,800 from a dealer. I replaced the common issues and man I love this big girl lol
Great steal & welcome to the Beemer Nation. I bought my 2nd BMW last July (2002 525i) $2200 off Facebook market as well. You can find some good deals for the low on there. Enjoy Bro and hold it in the road 👌🏾
Boy the deals have sure dried up though!
Nice deal, good for you.

Super super bravo legend bmw 525I 👍👍👍💪💪💪
2002 bmw 525i A sport wagon premium package with premium sound and Body color is titanium silver car is fully loaded included powered seats and leather car is very clean and well kept
Got mine for 950$ with about 900 in parts put in so far currently at 153,000 miles and running strong.
Check the DISA VALVE ASAP. Then you might want to get a modern headunit with navigation. There are some that look just like a proper BMW unit for about three hundred dollars. Nice shape. It is increasing in value.
The more beautiful E39
Nice 👍
It's like my car, it's a very cool car, its strength and stability on the road gives you a nice feeling to keep drive, for me BMW is the best car manufacturer
2002 525i 217k miles no rust very well maintained for $2k. is that too high?
You’re right
@mrmurph111
I bought one also in Indiana for around $3100.. I asked on E39 Facebook group and people kept telling me I paid way too much, but I think these things are really hard to find in this part of the midwest (not many dealers, not much demand like on the coasts). Non-sport. I had the 5-speed Getrag manual transmission instead of the ZF, lots of miles ~200k, and a couple common codes, pixels out in the ODO, and a ball joint needed replacement. 4 months later and I'm absolutely in love with the damn thing despite it being objectively the most base model E39 you can get.
内外装の色も、ホイールも素敵ですね。
is it normal for the car to have that loud alike ticking noise ?
is it normal for the car to have that loud like ticking noise
Looking for that Model BMW 2002 525i
How is your car doing? I’m thinking of getting one today same exact year color and model. 80k miles.
Overall not bad! Still love the car and I'm getting ready to update the cooling system. As long as you prepare yourself and budget for a few "updates" they are worth it. Get maintenance records, if not available negotiate the price accordingly.
The Engine ??????
Hello, I want to buy a BMW, how do I buy it?
Use 5W30 like the book says.
Hey next time could you show us the engine bay please
I also have a 520i BMW love the car little maintenance but once you do it in a timely manner you have no issues. You have gotten a really nice BMW
How's the leg and head room? I'm 6'5" so I'd probably look like Mr. Fantastic driving...lol!
I’m 6’2”, very comfortable and the thigh extension on sport seats is awesome. Headroom not a problem for me. I’d advise find one for sale and take it for a test drive, even if you don’t buy that actual car…then you’ll know.
For those of you who may not know, www.fcpeuro.com
No, I don't work there, I use them to save thousands on bmw parts, that free lifetime warranty on every darned thing is no joke
Any Updates? I’m looking at one - should I buy iT?
Other than general maintenance and cooling system upgrades....awesome! I would buy it again, wouldn't change a thing.
Do u still have this car lbs beuz I have the same one lbs and I got it about 3 year ago myself 😂😂 I’m out here in Wisconsin
Yep, still have it, still love it!
How has it been holding up since the purchase?
Runs great, couldn't be happier! Ice cold a/c which is nice this time of year.
Ok I think I want to get one too (525i)
@@CarmichaelG3 Find a clean one with low miles and maintenance history and you won't be sorry.
3,500 for same one black with 90k miles, go for it??
Ask about maintenance, if there is none expect to add around $1,000 right off the bat for basic thing that will need to be done...ie, cooling system, plugs, valve cover gasket, headlight adjusters, etc. I would try and get for $2500
Welcome to the world of Bavarian Motor Works "Electronic Nightmares'" Now Fix that electronic warning over and over and over again
U still got it
Yup!
I try8ng to buy one from my dad same year just gray 151000 miles for 3000 are they dependable its not as good as yours but in fair shape its a good price
😧😧❤️
Got one Just like this a few months ago. The Things people do to the radios! Gosh I see that and want to rip that sucker out and put in stock like I have. I put in a GROM unit to have bluetooth. Much more seamless
Henry J Daniels The previous owner did mail me the original radio unit, I’ve heard of the Grom unit a few times now so something I will definitely look into. Glad to hear someone else installed it and working good.
@@MrMurph111 Avin, Eonon, Xtrons... many options for something which is a huge upgrade and looks quality. I might have it on my Christmas list this year...
give you 2.600
Hahahaha...you wish!
