Too many people try to tell me about which rules I'm following or not, without understanding what decisions I've made or not. This is the main drawback with most writing collaborations that I've had. People are so hung up on "the rules" that they can't just read something and understand what is actually good writing or not. Not all of my writing is good writing. But when someone tries to remove something I know is good writing, I stop listening to them. It's a real problem.

Craft and tools are the skill of handling the elements applied for writing, just like a carpenter learns how to use their saws and chissels to create all sorts of furniture. Rules and Advise are the training wheels on a bicycle and multiplication tables in the arrythmatic school book. You stick to them until you understand them well enough to know when/how/why you can/should/must use/ignore/alter/subvert/spoof them.

Blame it on the publishing companies. I get older novels lately from the 80s and 90s at my local used bookstore and they seem to have better storytelling. Thats what you get when you get cookie cutter companies. Ex. The automotive industry, the music industry. The cookie companies, lol. The same thing with just a different name.
Does grammar or proper vocabulary limit what stories could be? Do sentences structures or sticking to common sense? No? Well then neither does story structure😤
