Everyone who was a part of his upbringing would be proud to see that he surfed a 100 foot wave at Jaws today.
I saw the video today, it was a bomb for real but Nazare waves are bigger than that one for sure.

I lived on the north shore for 15 years and heard a lot of stories about Eddie and Da Hui. But I only know one thing for sure if you showed respect and wasn't a kook in the water they didn't bother you
Very true. Was introduced to some Da Hui boys on the beach at Pipeline. I was respectful, and soon they showed respect back.

A friend of mine retired from HPD three years ago. He spent five years patrolling the North Shore, what Makua neglected to mention is his pops was one of the biggest Cocaine importers on Oahu.
How was he importing it ?

Tutu always taught us as kama`aina "always take off your shoes cause you're in someone else's house". The one thing I loved most about my upbringing was that disrespect earned cracks, and if the cracks stuck, respect would be found. Aloha is not all smiles and lei. I'll never forget this quote from JBG from the 90s: "I grew with nothing, now I have a house, a car and a wife" . Equaling a wife to a thing or possession during an interview without even noticing says something about a person. I just hope he didn't think he owned his wife the same way Eddie R. did. Guys who beat up their wife are the ultimate low-life cowards, nothing they do to prove to everyone they're these tough sh%t guys (beating up people, training, jujutsu, surfing big waves) will change that.

How is his relationship with his pops today? I hold my mother in the highest regard, respect & admiration. I know he was too young to stop it but I could never be cool with my dad after witnessing him beat up my mom. I could never respect that.

His father and the the Black Shorts Gang were feared gangsters on the North shore. The brothers got more than their share of primo waves because of this. That being said, they both have become true legendary wave riders. Despite the details of the past, I have true respect for their wave riding prowess.
It can't be denied that Rabbit, Ian, and PT needed to be taught a very hard lesson back in the 70's. You don't go anywhere and try to take over, then insult the people that live there. Anywhere, .... even if it's Rhode Island, or Galveston, Durban, or Sydney. Roll the dice and take your lumps like a man. I don't agree with everything they've been accused of doing, but Eddie and the boys have done much good for us Hawaiians and malama aina here, they just don't need to go shouting it around like some fucking haoles. It's palpable, they tread a lot lighter on the NS these days, thanks to Da Hui. I know Rabbit and PT get it now, Ian don't think so
