If the writers want to introduce Bargirl, Robin or another sidekick for Batman, I would like it if it was an obscure character, like Cassandra Cane or Signal.
If they do like Terry McGinnis and make it something where the new Batgirl/Robin could literally be "anyone" who has thier own reasons and story and not just some kid or person shoehorned into it like most other stories have done, I could see it working. I don't really know enough about Batgirl to know what she could bring to the show, but I would like to see a Robin who kind of did his own thing maybe, not affiliated with Batman directly, but rather his own person who happens to ally with Batman. Then they could cover the "There's no reason for Bruce to take on some kid, but there is another kid on the streets who lost his parents and felt the need to ensure others don't suffer the same fate, but on his own tempo." Then we won't be tied into the "Robin is just Batman's sidekick" and more so see him as his own person, a lot like how the Teen Titan's show handled Robin, no need for Batman, he was his own person and it was excellent.
putting aside that _blatant_ disrespect to Cass, i think you're right that she would be a good choice for a robin in this series. No need for combat training, aside from maybe a lesson or two in nonlethal methods to take someone out. Actually, her or Damian are both good choices because there is less of a "batman turns his children into child soldiers" controversy when they were already like that when they came to him. But we haven't even been introduced to Talia yet, so yeah, Cass is probably the best choice. i hope they bring in the League of Shadows in s2!
I can see more of this Barbara being Oracle, while someone like Stephanie, Cassandra, or Betty Kane being Batgirl. ( I think it was Betty Kane who was the original Batgirl)
@@josephdent6825I highly doubt we'll ever see Stephanie becoming Batgirl or Robin in this show. She was already introduced during the Nocturna episode as one of the little orphans Leslie was taking care of.
Same. given how Caped Crusader is trying to be a more "made for adults who grew up with the cartoon but want something more serious without being silly" show, we see this case with Barbara no longer being Bat girl (beyond a visual pun) and Two face never being the half man, half monster (more like the man was the monster and the monster was the guilty conscious). I also liked seeing Killer Croc as JUST a circus performer made up of freaks and not yet an example of "You're a monster so you must be evil" and their Batman having to grow and evolve and not just automatically being a beacon of justice. This really is taking things in a good and unique direction while still being an excellent Batman cartoon and story. and honestly, it may rival BTAS as the best for not being written like a juvenile's fanfiction like many of the comics are, but really respecting the audience's intelligence with how they handle the plots and overall narrative. No gimmicks. just a very solid, very grounded noir told very well.
I approve of the show taking the long-established characters in different directions from what we've known of them. I respect faithfulness to source material and all that, but you can only watch the same interpretations so many times before you start to want to see something new :)
Yeah, and not just doing the "What if the hero was darker or more brutal" like the comics and shows like Injustice really like to do. This show feels like it respects the core characters but paints them in a different, more realistic light. They're not cartoon characters, but they're more like how real people in those situations would do things. Especially Harley and to an extent Two face. Harley breaking free of the "She's joker's estranged lover with a very nice voice" to really stand on her own and show there's more to being Harley Quinn than just a funny girl with a thick midwestern accent. and Twoface for once NOT being tied to some personality disorder or some gimmick. I REALLY like how the Original Harvey Dent is the villainous side and the monsterious "Other guy" is a remorse filled reminder of what lead him to this situation in the first place. and the fact that Bruce pushes him to go insane was an excellent way to handle why Harey would have a problem with "the Batman" by making it more personal to Batman, unlike the other media that generally just makes Harvey or Two face someone who is a real thankless friend who based his entire revenge on Batman "NOT" saving him (or in the Nolan movies case...SAVING him instead of his girlfriend....which just felt like spite....) I'm really liking Caped Crusader the more I hear about it.
I’m currently reading through the Batman comics of the 70s and 80s and I really like Barbara’s career in politics and humanities. It was an interesting direction for the character that led to a lot more variety in stories compared to the very repetitive college stories of Robins side comic
Absolutely, and the fact that she led on a very progressive platform is pretty interesting. It’s another example I point to when the usual suspect complain about politics in comics - they’ve always been political!
Do you think Barbara x Bruce will be a thing in CC since it's Timm's creation? I think it will happen. At least they are the same age like in the old comics
@SerumLake Barabara: So here's what I found from hacking into Thorne's finances. Batman: Hack? Barbara: Yeah, I took a hatchet to his filing cabinet. What else could that mean?
@@SerumLake i mean she keeps her job and just operates as a lawyer and slips Batman info and peers into files unabated, you could still make that work especially with how this series emphasizes the corrupt nature of the GCPD and legal system. Plenty of juicy info probably coming through to those opening their ears to it.
@@SerumLake She'd be a better Alfred, if allowed access to similar equipment. She has legal connections through her father and law colleagues that could give her intel far beyond what listening in on police radios all night could achieve. As for not becoming Batgirl, I don't see her spending all night dressed up in a costume like Bruce does. She simply doesn't have the time in this new iteration. That said, she was technically "on the clock" in a lot of action scenes. If they do go the Batgirl route, I see her maybe doing it once or twice while maintaining her civilian identity throughout this hypothetical season.
@@SerumLakethats what made it interesting how they would adapt it to the time frame with all the limitations they choose. And it bring a moral dilemma to her, because doing so she is avaling the action of a Vigilant, she is all about a 'Fair deal', she not aval what Batman does simply understand that he don't deserve to die for it, and it's that it's not her role to capture or Judge him.
I mean daredevil is a lawyer and a crime fighter at night it cold be possible she just needs some shades to cover the baggy eyes she might get for sleeping for like 2 hours a night. Im kidding but I honestly agree with you she is making a huge change to gotham just by being a public defender kinda blew me away that this is the first time shes been adapted as a public defender it fits her character.
@@SerumLakeit does take less detective work when you can just hear the crime happening throughout the city and have a nose better than a blood hound. Dare Devil also has years of martial and acrobatics training that Barbra just isn't going to get at this point.
Yes, but Math itself struggles with it even with his powers that facilitate a lot of info his work as a vigilante interfere a lot with it, he relly much on Foggy to solvent it. She-Hulk has similar problems but she simply give priority to one thing or the other. The problem is Barbara has not powers and require a lot of preparation, I not se her becoming Batgirl, but Oracle is another history though bring her some ethical dilemma
I like this version of Barbara since you rarely see a lot of what being a public defender entails in movies, tv shows and books/comics, her not being batgirl in this version is fantastic since as you said she has had a lot of careers over the years. I think by the time the second season airs we will see her a bit more jaded and morose after the events of that night. However she will also be more determined and willing to help those in need and she will have back up in the form of her dad, Renee montoya and Batman/ Bruce wayne. I know the joker is coming in season 2 and I am hoping for the scarecrow and perhaps the ventriloquist/ scarface as well.
When Barbara became Oracle in the comics, she proved that she can still be a hero without her costume. It does not matter if she is Batgirl or Oracle Barb is still a hero. And I do not mind Caped Crusader Barb being a lawyer but honestly I find her kinda of unlikeable sometimes. Her altruism can make her naive some
I could see them doing a single Halloween episode where she gets caught in a caper while wearing a "Batgirl" costume, like in the comics, but at the end of the episode saying it just didn't feel comfortable or something.
I'd love surprise 2nd season Cassandra Cain becoming batgirl (but then she is my favourite batgirl and criminally under adapted) but I think batman on this arc of becoming more human having to open and teach someone who was raised to be a living weapon could be interesting
I'd like to see Cassandra too, but not as Batgirl. I like the idea of this being a world where there's only one costumed hero, no on else is crazy enough to try it
@@elchompi12rewind27 that's assuming there ever is a Robin. I kinda feel like seeing the kids in the orphanage was Bruce Timm saying "here're your Robins, now don't ask about them again!"
Honestly I was really excited about a black batgirl. And I understand why we might not get her here but after missing out on her solo movie. I'd be really disappointed if I didn't get to see her here
When it comes to Barbara Gordon being a "public defender"...ehn. While Caped Crusader does contain some anachronisms it's worth bearing in mind that that in the historical 1940s there was no Public Defender's Office. We haven't seen Barbara Gordon's boss because she probably doesn't have one. In the 1940s, in New York City how it would work is that defense attorneys would work for indigent clients and would be paid for doing so by the Legal Aid Society. Barbara can and probably does also clients who can pay for their own representation. The PDO only appears in real history after certain Supreme Court rulings in the 1960s to the effect that nobody's allowed to fall through the cracks.
CC's 1940s is much more progressive than Real Life Amerika but still just as corrupt I think they made the right decision A non-racist society can still be corrupt and have police brutality Al Capone wasn't racist
I mean there are quite a few anachronisms in Caped Crusader. I think its a perfectly fine choice for there to be a public defenders office, as it allows us to be clear about Barb's morals without getting bogged down in the specifics of criminal defense in the 1940s
Honnestly if we're talking anachronisms in Caped Crussader... I think no one ever commenting how much of an exception and achievement it is for Race lifted Jim Gordon to still being chief of police would be a much bigger one.... I am not crazy, right ? Segregation and even some Jim Crow laws were still very much a thing in the 40ies ? Or am I severly overstating how strongthey were at the time ? (I mean they got repealled one by one, slowly....) I fully understand why the show is happilly ignoring that tho and is probaly all the better for it as a result (tho I'm not gonna lie, to me it really make it feel like the show is jsut taking the aesthetics of the 40 ies without wantitng to commit to the actual core of what thte 40ies were in many ways so really feel like batman TAS all over again...)
The whole show feels like one. Between every other show trying to make Batman a broodmaster WAY beyond reason, and shows focusing on being as violent and flashy as possible. it's really nice to see a regular, grounded, solid batman story that focuses less on the caped hero and his actions in stopping crazy criminals, but more on what makes Gotham "gotham" in the first place and why Batman realistically is kind of no different from the other rogues even if he's a hero. Even He himself is learning that, and that's what makes this batman the most sympathetic.
3:23 While I agree she'll not become Batgirl, that doesn't mean she won't be in the game in a support role in addition to cleaning up after Batman. If Matt Murdock can work a similar job AND fight crime as Daredevil, then Barbara can use her position to get useful information to Batman.
So a more 1940s version of Oracle? I would be ok with that. Even being the World's Greatest Detective, it helps having people inside the law helping feed what info they can. Cause that is a power of sorts.
@@Compucles Said information needn't be in relation to her clients, but perhaps reports of accidents or disasters held in places she'd have an easier time getting into than Batman can. Support can have plenty of meanings.
This is a great analysis of Barbara Gordon! While I enjoyed the Barbara Gordon who would be Bat Girl, I find it strange that the daughter of a police commissioner would allow herself the thought of this action. I do enjoy the Caped Crusader version of Barbara, of any past incarnation, she did not derive her strength from the idea of batman or the commissioner. This Barbara chose for herself what kind of justice she wanted. Not the black and white ideals of common super heroism that came from the era the show takes place in, but the ideals of the multi spectral justice system of morality and the proportionate crime-punishment ideas she holds. She is a good take on the character, as a side note, I find that the complaints about her from other people on her race are completely foolish, disregarding the character based on a design feature. How utterly foolish. I find that the Harley Quinn and Barbara Gordon friendship made a lot of sense too, and I would consider myself not in the wrong for thinking that the two complemented each other as people and as individuals. Harley is the punishment based underside of Barbara's ideals, punishing the rich for their evil through psychological torment, while Barbara defended the poor and needy criminals with the law. Two sides of the same proportional ideal, but it makes more sense in a broad sense. On a side note, I have an Idea for a medium I think you would be able to examine with both a feeling of unease (Because it is very different territory and culture) as well as a slight feeling of excitement (because of the possible stories and characters you would be able to understand) and that is Japanese anime, specifically, if it would be alright to make such an astonishingly foolish request, I would hope that you check out a great anime called Sword Art Online. It is one of my favorites, even if it has a few issues, being one of the original starters in the isekai genre, it is one of the first to popularize the genre in the first place, starring "Kirito" as he works to free himself and 10000 other players from a virtual online mmo game called "Sword Art Online" where they are all trapped, unable to log out or even have their headsets removed, lest their brains being fried by microwave emitters in the headsets themselves. The story itself extends beyond that and even seeing so much as one video on Sword Art Online from you would make my day! Thank you for the amazing video essays, Since I found your channel, your videos have given me inspiration to work on not just the fiction I want to produce, but also the very idea of me producing my own Video Essays. sorry for the rant and anyone who decided to read this comment.
You’re welcome! Personally I’m going to stick to the characters of the DC Universes, but I encourage you to make your own videos. I put it off for over a decade and really wish I started sooner…
We'll have to see how well this ages, but overall, yeah I agree. It would be nice to introduce some other supers or sidekicks into the story, but I'd want to see them with their own unique twists.
Sincerely i think could be interesting if she jump directly to Oracle for severa reason. 1 its a identity that focus on support others rather that act directly unless the need is dire and the skill and lawyer work overlap better than with batgirl. 2 it would bring a moral dilemma and restraining as is a more grayish identity, more to this version of Barbara. 3 the time the series is set, Oracle is a modern identity, a modernization of her 'librarian' persona in a white hat Hacker possing as tech support so it be interesting how they deal with technology disonancy how you adapt the woman in the chair, in a time frame were a computer is expensive scientific tool instead of a everyday item.
we do have that kind of Batgirl as well. but in the universe where the "Bat" stands for the baseball bat and not the animal, Barbara has become a vampire so that's completly different. good story about that universe though.
I hope we get a new portrayal of Hugo Strange in this series. Given how Strange helped lead to Thorne’s downfall in the comics, and Thorne is set up as the overarching villain, I want to see how they could adapt that here.
It seems like her arc is going down a path of slowly having her faith in people broken down by the people she's trying to help and the system she trusts. Realising her friend is a villain, having an officer and one of her own clients trying to kill her, and then losing Harvey Dent to two deadbeat cops. It makes me wonder if in season 2 there's going to be a tipping point for her. Where all of these things eventually causes a break in her empathy and faith in people completely.
Her falling from grace from heroic lawyer to unsanctioned vigilante would be *very interesting.* Am a sucker on seeing paragons become renegades over time in fiction.
I can only think of one instance of her being Batgirl where it could work (Though it would only be for a single episode). Bear with me as this is basically an episode pitch: Barbara and her father attend some sort of Halloween/costume party where she's wearing a Batman inspired costume. The party is crashed by a group of criminals (Let's say Killer Moth is the leader as he was involved with some Batgirl origins) and she's able to slip away before any hostages are grabbed. She's forced to use her wits and anything at her disposal to save/protect her fellow party goers as well as her father who seems to be the main target of the criminals (considering it's Killer Moth it's likely so he could make a name for himself as being the one who got Commissioner Gordon). Basically it's a similar situation to something like Die Hard. Batman is involved, but due to some unforeseen issue that delays him (can't think of one right now), he's not able to arrive or offer assistance immediately so Barbara has to almost stall the criminals until he arrives as he's much better equipped to deal with them. Also due to the hostages, the GCPD is present outside but they're keeping their distance to prevent any loss of life. Ultimately the criminals are stopped and everyone is okay in the end (Barbara was even able take a few goons out by herself). Though unlike the comics where she goes on to be Batgirl regularly, in this version she'll speak to Batman and acknowledge that this sort of thing is not for her and decide to leave the costume crime fighting to him.
I don’t know why but I have a feeling we’re going to explore Oracle through this version of Barbra I feel it would add an interesting twist to this world
The great thing about having a multiverse is that it allows for so much more creative freedom than would otherwise exist under circumstances that would require the rigid adherence to a canon, like Star Wars. Barbara doesn't _have_ to be Batgirl. Batman doesn't _need_ a sidekick. Commissioner Gordon doesn't _need_ to be Caucasian. The Joker doesn't _need_ to laugh all the time, nor is it even necessary for him to be Batman's primary antagonist. And so on.
Ironically, Star Wars actually also has a Multiverse, as seen with their Infinities tales, a bunch of video games having alternate outcomes, those LEGO works, the existence of the World Between Worlds, and the riveting Cult+Supernatural Encounters novellas. With that, I'd rather not see Star Wars do a Crisis on Infinite Earths. No, I'd rather see original character Force sensitive and Kyle Katarn-esque Multiversal operatives helping out, say, the characters of Gravity Falls/Amphibia/The Owl House, with maybe "imported" Star Destroyers, Zaarin-design TIE Defenders, and Cygnus Missile Boats on their task force's arsenal.
@@MikeyPartII It's not the same. Star Wars maintains an official canon overseen by the Lucasfilm Story Group, with significant input from figures like Dave Filoni. While creators have the flexibility to explore new stories and concepts, the core canon nevertheless dogmatically defines what is official Star Wars lore and what isn't. Some elements from non-canon works, like Thrawn, may be incorporated into the official storyline, but that happens rarely. That's different from DC Comics, where no one individual can unilaterally control the narrative and a whole host of artists and writers can come up with anything they want, and it's integrated into unified multiverse that periodically resets itself through Crisis events.
1:09 this is basically needs to be said. nothing is being changed, the old exists, has existed, and will keep existing. but across comic books....... are many, MANY different versions of a singular character. and yes. they are ALL different.
I heard that the orginal script was really bad, and just wouldn’t make a good movie, but I do wish that they revisit the idea of making a batgirl movie. We also never see any live Batman movies where he even has any of his sidekicks alongside him, so a mentor/student movie with Barbra as the protagonist could actually change fhat.
@@sycklesthat wasn't barbara gordon. That's a different character called Barbara Wilson. Barbara Gordon does exist in the burtonverse but she isn't batgirl
@@idkidk503 comment I replied to said "We also never see any live Batman movies where he even has any of his sidekicks alongside him..." So not sure why you replied to me with that but of trivia, but thanks.
Earth Mover ( Batman Beyond). The Werewolf ( BTAS). Morgan La Fay ( Justice League). The Royal Flush Gang. Willy Watt ( AKA The Golem) ( Batman Beyond). Deadman. Tantrum ( Static Shock). Mordred ( Justice League).
I could see this version of Barbara going through an episode that tanks her career or otherwise leaves her unable to continue to help people the way she has, or potentially something that challenges her to believe that she needs to do *more* and becoming Batgirl. Or, as you say, she might not, and might stick with the role she has. I can see either happening, and I can see either being done well. There are multiple correct answers in storytelling, a lot of the time.
In Ace attorney investigations 2, there is a character who has a very similar perspective on being a lawyer to Barbra. Eddie Fender, or Ray Shields if you prefer, is a defense attorney who tends to take the case of people who; while not being completely innocent; have been put in a situation where they felt they had no other option. The third case shows him taking the defense of one Judy Bound who ended up doing some illegal things so she could help free her father figure Samson Tangaroa who had been wrongfully convicted 18 years ago, and Eddie made sure she got a fair trial. Eddie and Barbra fight, not for the innocent, but for the sympathetic, and I can’t help but commend that
4:02 -- Been meaning to ask, where are these title cards found? I don't see these when I click onto an episode listing on Amazon Prime... usually it's just a freezeframe of the Batman in mid-closeup.
0:25 The fact that people could believe that despite the clear signs of Warner Bros going up in flames even before Caped Crusader production is crazy. If my memory is correct the talks of Warner Bros struggling to get by started like right after the first Suicide Squad and only progressive got worse as years went by. To think selling CC to Amazon wasn't entirely money motivated is delusional especially since it's a Batman animated show coming off the heels of a 10-year Batman animated show hiatus.
I think it could be interesting for Barbara to be forced into taking on the mantle of Batgirl very temporarily, only for her to conclude that it isn't how she wants to do things.
I mean she wouldn't be the 1st lawyer to become a superhero. So the time issue isn't really thought of in comics I think. I mean Bruce alone having time is crazy to think about
DC has a Multiverse. The fact that people never consider that these well known characters can be a different race/gender is small picture thinking. It's a Multiverse, multiple possibilities.
A personal philosophy I'm finding is with goodness is the best good one can do is the goodness that one CHOOSES to do. & Barbera does this time & time again.
I'm going to another of your videos: Corrigan may not be traditionally redeemable, but BCC has a supernatural 'window'. What If The Spectre in this version isn't just an angelic vigilante, but a force unleashed by Papa Midnight using Gotham's own corruption and inaction against it? In Blackgate, Corrigan is offered the chance to become the out-of-control monster's host, and, in shame and guilt over his own corruption, agrees and shuts it down, sometimes emerging as the green-and-white antihero, but never too often, for fear it will overwhelm him.
If anything they could do the origin story where she wears the batgirl costume for Halloween and jsut gets into an adventure and have it be a one off, maybe inspiring a different Batgirl in the process.
I get what you mean and I understand that Barbara Gordon being a public defender as she good at it and whether she'll become Batgirl or not is fine I don't know for sure just to wait for Season 2 to come out and we'll see what they'll do with her
"people think WB selling the rights to amazon indicates a lack of faith" anyone saying that is either not listening or is willfully ignorant of warner's horrific decisions under Zaslav, lmfao
Barbara is doing exactly what she stands for, fight for the people not for the money and be corrupted. Barbara being friends with Harley is a good choice, I hope for season two, we see Barbara help out Batman more
Isn't solitary confinement supposed to be a temporary punishment for breaking prison rules, not a part of the criminal sentence? He was just to impatient too wait until he got out of SC to put the hit out himself. Odds are, the incident that landed him in SC was a big part of the reason he felt he didn't belong in Blackgate and convinced him to put out the hit in the first place.
Longtime BTAS/DCAU fans are shocked at the prospect that Bruce Timm, having dedicated a decade-and-a-half of his life to adapting these stories… Suddenly doesn’t want to do the exact same thing he did last time? That aside, Barbara is being done so well in this version as a unique character; it feels like CC will only evolve its characters consistently if it’s given the time to keep going.
To be honest, I don't mind that Barbara Gordon won't be Batgirl in Caped Crusader because I'm sure this show is more grounded and realistic than previous incarnations and I'm pretty sure she's not interested in fighting crime as a vigilante in this show.
0:42: A doomed project, what with current opinions on works like Batwoman, Birds of Prey, and Wonder Woman '84, plus the film possibly being made for the failed DCEU, which can prevent rewatch value even if good. 1:08: As a deep cut aside, don't do a Nana Daiba from Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight. I wonder if CC's Barbara was a librarian on her younger years. And if anything, I also wonder if this Barbara Gordon iteration will become a mayoral candidate, if not police commissioner. 4:01: There's a chance the guy is a Professor Moriarty type though. Meek and humble in the outside, manipulatively clever on the inside. 4:44: I would have preferred a Jim Gordon who actually moved to Gotham City after an otherwise average career in, say, Dakota City. Such a guy may be an outsider, but he sure ain't gonna let evil win on his new hometown. 5:07: Believe me, I'd rather be serving on a Multiversal defense Victory-class Star Destroyer than working undercover in an Oriental coastal slum, as an aphorism. I have to wonder if the show's Gotham is supernaturally cursed to be surrounded by an evil, incurable aura of moral miasma. That could shatter Barbara's idealism, this out-of-her-league conundrum. Gotta say, in my opinion, Barbara's "shades of grey" angle makes her an unintentionally unsympathetic character in my eyes, judicial heroine or no. Good thing it's slowly being shattered though. I wonder... will there be a possibility of "Barbie" killing Flass by gunshot so to protect a cornered Batman, if not her father Jim?
I think her being a lawyer is a great way for the character to still be involved with justice while allowing Batman to be the only costume hero at least for the time being and I don’t think her being a lawyer and a superhero would work well for her character
It took some getting used to but I don't mind that Barbara will likely never be Batgirl in this show. Especially after seeing her still using her detective skills and bravery.
We are fortunate that Reeves was only a producer, even that he seems had taken a playbook from Cape Crusader with his miniseries The Penguin, that erase the stupid ending of The Batman, when the Batman bend the knee to the status quo, and the Mayor and the Police appear in TV like saying: "See, we aren't all bad and corrupt." When Batman was preaching for two hours and half, I counted, about how corrupt the police and the politician where, the Riddle as well, but The Batman really not take any risk compared to Cape Crusader, the politician was corrupt because he was having an affair, not because he was a sellout to corporations and rich people, but at least The Penguin erase all that, and Gotham continue to be as corrupt as ever.
See I kinda disagree with her not becoming batgirl. We had the episode where she found out those who helped attacked her, the point where she tried to do things her way with dent ending up with him dead, and her up next. I could see her not so much becoming the one jumping from roof to roof, but being more an orical role without the shot to the gut being needed. Someone that starts to feed batman info because of her connections to the underground thanks to working directly with them, yet maybe the lowly goon is scared of it being traced back to them if the cops storm the boss' place. In either case it's been an interesting run so far.
People's kneejerk aversion to change comes from the fact that most often it's done very poorly. Look at all the changes disney made to star wars for an excellent example on how to run something good into the ground. What could possibly go wrong from turning the hero of a previous series into a washed up failiure in a weak attempt to make the new character with negative stats in charisma and personality look better? Simply put, it's bad writing. The visual changes are what people latch onto but at the end of the day it's the horrible writing. This has happened so much people have associated one with the other so when anything is changed... like Velma... I consider it fair to say people have been uh conditioned to have this aversion to change.
@SerumLake except bad writing that's what it has to do with caped crusader... lol, don't get me wrong, man. I get it. You want to be positive, but this show was not it..if they change a few things like change certain character dioulgue, certain story bits that where made just to adhear to a modern audience... again I get it...but again would just say to skip this show and watch BTAS instead. Again great videos.... I really want to like caped crusader just can't kept getting that ugly feeling like ughh wtf am I watching
Actually, I was fine with Disney Star Wars, even with The Last Jedi and Solo in mind. It's just that Rebels Seasons 3 and 4 (what happened to the promise on making the X-Wing's first flight be a loving reference to the movie Empire of the Sun, Filoni?!), Battlefront 2 2017 (I'd rather replay Battlefront II 2005 and TIE Fighter), Resistance, The Book of Boba Fett (so much Spy Kids levels of cringe later on), The Mandalorian Season 3, Tales of the Jedi (which ashamedly stole its title from a flawed yet slightly better Old Republic comic book series from Legends), and especially The Rise of Skywalker (Duel of the Fates should have stayed on the plan) showed up as unfixable duds.
Perhaps Renee Montoya will become the new Batgirl: she's physically fit and can fight back but perhaps after future cases involving corrupt cops, possible framing (or being outed), or unable to keep up with the current crop of new villains she quits and becomes a private eye detective intent on doing something different to make a difference. Over time she'll ditch her heavy trenchcoat (and high heels) for something more light and tactical ... even ditching her cop's instinct to shoot and kill in order to abide to Batman's new philosophy to build a better Gotham.
while im ok with babs not being a super hero, as stephanie brown already exists with in this world and could take the role of batgirl if this show surives long enough to make that happen given shes still a child here along with several other members of the possable future bat fam. and though unlikly there is always the possability of Cass Cain, being intoroduced into this world and the idea of a cass can batgirl in a current cartoon makes me so expected that is i were to discripe it id have to age restrict my comment. i just hope that making babs older, and not making her bat girl isnt an attempt by one bruce timm to make his crack bruce/babs ship more palatable for all of us that rightly reject that for being fucking weird
Don’t worry, he already said he rejected a producer from Amazon’s request to have Batman and Barbara be in a relationship. It won’t happen in this series.
I could almoat aee her going an Oracle route, except this universe does not have the IT infrastructure for it. I wonder, though, if ahe might switch to the D.A.'s office now with Harvey gone. Maybe unhappily, but out of a sense of duty to help her dad clean up the corruption.
Plus my guess this Barbara is about the same age as batman when most versions are way younger and usually have an enamoured view of him here are more like equals
Not only do I believe Barb will be Batgirl, I suspect they'll have her and Bruce hook up. Bruce Timm has been trying to get these two to shack up for decades, and now that they're the same age in this show, they can justify it.
Well, if that happens the rabid fan boys are gonna lose their minds. Though if this version of Barbara does become Batgirl, I hope she won't only be a love interest. I would be glad to see that she acts independently of the Batman
Yea, caped crusaders ain't it for me, but hey, you enjoy it. Go for it... I'll give season 2 a chance... but nothing will beat BTAS characters and story all done wonderfully... clayface for example the BTAS one if far better in establishing charcater and scenery and music and voice work just great....CC though i loved his old actor vibe but he wasnt really clayface liek they knocked him out wit a punch come on bro what?! No freezing him, no water? Like yea i get it different take, but that aint clayface
Yeah, I really enjoyed the new Batman. WB has gone down hill. It seems like this is all Zazlav getting ready to sell it off. He's really badly handled being CEO. Barbara was absolutely fine. Her being a lawyer makes just as much sense as anything else. I did not like their take on Catwoman though.
Th3Birdman - Now I want to preface this by saying I am the guy publicly okay that does not give a [ __] about race swaps in or even gender swaps in film. I think anybody can play anybody as long as they have the talent to do so and as long as that character's race is not integral to that character. for example, and I used this example before Red Skull probably has to be a white European considering he's a Nazi during World War II. That kind of has to be a white guy or at least a guy that very closely resembles a white European right, maybe not a Jewish person. that would be kind of [ __] up, but like you know he has to kind of be white, like he can't be, I don't know, Idris Elba, like Idris Elba can't be Red Skull before he gets the Red Skull.
Th3Birdman EWW CinemaSins Dune :Dr Kynes scene - this is another instance of this film calling back to something from the 1984 Dune as this exact thing happened in that film only Dr Kynes was whiter and male-ier . I do want to point out the irony of this character not causing the so-called anti-woke crowd to go apeshit like they always do when a character was made black or female. it's almost like race swaps don't matter if the character's race isn't integral to the character especially when they didn't even know anything about the original character.
Readus 101 also made a very interesting video about the women in Caped Crusader; their role, their symbolism and why people should stop whining about them being POC or queer. It's called The Woke Women of Batman Caped Crusader :)
I want her to become bat girl, beacuse the bat famliy core part of what i like about batman without a robin and the rest of bat famliy, bruce wayna is boring, the bat famliy outside of the comic is very very realy used in this day and age
I hope a sidekick is introduced
putting aside that _blatant_ disrespect to Cass, i think you're right that she would be a good choice for a robin in this series.
They wasted all the Robins except Tim Drake in stupid cameos
@@BigJonB36I liked them. Especially Carrie.
I'm honestly fine with Barbara not being batgirl
I can see more of this Barbara being Oracle, while someone like Stephanie, Cassandra, or Betty Kane being Batgirl. ( I think it was Betty Kane who was the original Batgirl)
@@josephdent6825I highly doubt we'll ever see Stephanie becoming Batgirl or Robin in this show. She was already introduced during the Nocturna episode as one of the little orphans Leslie was taking care of.
I'm honestly fine with Barbara not having sex with Bruce
Agreed
Same. given how Caped Crusader is trying to be a more "made for adults who grew up with the cartoon but want something more serious without being silly" show, we see this case with Barbara no longer being Bat girl (beyond a visual pun) and Two face never being the half man, half monster (more like the man was the monster and the monster was the guilty conscious).
Wouldn't be the first time she jumped straight to Oracle. Remember Beware The Batman?
I have to wonder how effective an Oracle figure could be in a world without computers and the internet.
@SerumLake
Barabara: So here's what I found from hacking into Thorne's finances.
I can def see them having her jumping straight in as Oracle
Or the Question, depends if they are going for “gods and monster” approach.
Well, Daredevil has super powers, he doesn’t have to work as hard to be a lawyer, so he’s got plenty of time for costumed shenanigans 😂
It's kind of the first time they realized "you don't need a costume to be a hero." That's what makes it resonate so much.
I like the idea of this being a world where there's only one costumed hero, no on else is crazy enough to try it
Then that would mean Tim Drake would be the only Main Robin in this show
@@elchompi12rewind27 that's assuming there ever is a Robin. I kinda feel like seeing the kids in the orphanage was Bruce Timm saying "here're your Robins, now don't ask about them again!"
@@SerumLakeBe hilarious if Caped Crusader’s Robin ends up being Carey Kelley.
But with that weapon she might become the “Absolute BatGirl”.
Batman smashes a criminal's confidence, Batgirl smashes a criminal's kneecaps.
I almost read that as "Absolute Batsh8t" and my brain just warped to another dimension. XD
This is outrageous! How dare they do this to Barbara? How could they redesign her.... As a lawyer?! lol
I Hope her Future in this Series is still as a Lawyer and she could continue believing in her Path of Justice.
Regarding Barbara becoming Batgirl, I think we should always remember that her best storys in the comics were when she was in a wheel chair.
Honestly I was really excited about a black batgirl. And I understand why we might not get her here but after missing out on her solo movie. I'd be really disappointed if I didn't get to see her here
Joker puls out a pizza box and says fine ill do it my self
Killing joke, foreshadowing.
Moving target really shows that her world view needed refinement the world isn't just shades of grey, there is black and white too
She's also based on Billy Dee Williams' Harvey Dent from the first Batman movie by Tim Burton.
Yeah, Gideon v. Wainwright wasn't decided until 1963. Before then, if you couldn't afford a lawyer, you had to represent yourself.
@@Compucles Or rely on the kindness of charitable groups and the occasional lawyer willing to put in some pro bono hours.
CC's 1940s is much more progressive than Real Life Amerika but still just as corrupt
I think they made the right decision
A non-racist society can still be corrupt and have police brutality
Al Capone wasn't racist
(I mean they got repealled one by one, slowly....)
I fully understand why the show is happilly ignoring that tho and is probaly all the better for it as a result (tho I'm not gonna lie, to me it really make it feel like the show is jsut taking the aesthetics of the 40 ies without wantitng to commit to the actual core of what thte 40ies were in many ways so really feel like batman TAS all over again...)
this version of babs was a breath of fresh air 🌬️ i definitely really liked her in this show (and also loved the show itself)
This show is more like breaking wind 😅💨
Great analysis as always; it's clear a lot of research and thought goes into your essays.
Wouldn't that break attorney/client privilege and turn her into a corrupt lawyer?
I'd rather recommend OVA series El-Hazard: The Magnificent World, The Vision of Escaflowne, and Haibane Renmei instead.
You know, I kinda like this new version of Barbara Gordon. Maybe you're right. Maybe it's a good thing she won't become Batgirl
Loved her character on the show.
Not all heroes wear capes.
And this one never will! (Maybe..)
I mean look at spider man,daredevil,captain America,iron man,or wolverine😂
Just noticed the joke she not bat girl but she holding a bat 😅!! Ha ha
bingo!
we do have that kind of Batgirl as well. but in the universe where the "Bat" stands for the baseball bat and not the animal, Barbara has become a vampire so that's completly different. good story about that universe though.
I hope we get a new portrayal of Hugo Strange in this series. Given how Strange helped lead to Thorne’s downfall in the comics, and Thorne is set up as the overarching villain, I want to see how they could adapt that here.
Maybe he should be a good guy like Killer Croc
It seems like her arc is going down a path of slowly having her faith in people broken down by the people she's trying to help and the system she trusts.
Realising her friend is a villain, having an officer and one of her own clients trying to kill her, and then losing Harvey Dent to two deadbeat cops.
It makes me wonder if in season 2 there's going to be a tipping point for her. Where all of these things eventually causes a break in her empathy and faith in people completely.
I can see why you say that, but I think, if anything, these events are going to make her faith in her beliefs even stronger.
Her falling from grace from heroic lawyer to unsanctioned vigilante would be *very interesting.* Am a sucker on seeing paragons become renegades over time in fiction.
I can only think of one instance of her being Batgirl where it could work (Though it would only be for a single episode). Bear with me as this is basically an episode pitch:
Barbara and her father attend some sort of Halloween/costume party where she's wearing a Batman inspired costume.
My biggest fear of Joker appeared, he would paralyze Barbara
3:45
Barbara as Batgirl before: 🦇
Barbara as Batgirl now: 👊
I don’t know why but I have a feeling we’re going to explore Oracle through this version of Barbra I feel it would add an interesting twist to this world
The great thing about having a multiverse is that it allows for so much more creative freedom than would otherwise exist under circumstances that would require the rigid adherence to a canon, like Star Wars.
And so on.
Exactly.
Well said
Ironically, Star Wars actually also has a Multiverse, as seen with their Infinities tales, a bunch of video games having alternate outcomes, those LEGO works, the existence of the World Between Worlds, and the riveting Cult+Supernatural Encounters novellas.

DC posted them on their social media accounts the day before Caped Crusader was released.
I really enjoy version of Barbara. The writers don't need to change anything her identity or position.
I mean Bruce alone having time is crazy to think about
I thought her using a bat was a reference to the comics where the joker cripples her
DC has a Multiverse. The fact that people never consider that these well known characters can be a different race/gender is small picture thinking. It's a Multiverse, multiple possibilities.
The people who complain about it are living off pure copium.

Heck yeah 👀
I really liked this version of Barbara. She is still Batgirl even if she isn't wearing the costume.
Oh yes 🙌👍!
I wonder if should take up the Oracle role in this series.
I’m ok with this Barbara not being Batgirl. However, she would’ve made such a good one 😩😭😭
They’re building up to an episode where she has to defend… Him.
I think her being a lawyer is a great way for the character to still be involved with justice while allowing Batman to be the only costume hero at least for the time being and I don’t think her being a lawyer and a superhero would work well for her character
Pity. I actually figured though.
Yeah and awesome 👏as well!
4:45 Wait there are worse areas in Gothem City? lol
Barbara not becoming batgirl is a little boring IMO. It's like she is James Gordon v2.0: The lawyer.
It took some getting used to but I don't mind that Barbara will likely never be Batgirl in this show. Especially after seeing her still using her detective skills and bravery.
We are fortunate that Reeves was only a producer, even that he seems had taken a playbook from Cape Crusader with his miniseries The Penguin, that erase the stupid ending of The Batman, when the Batman bend the knee to the status quo, and the Mayor and the Police appear in TV like saying: "See, we aren't all bad and corrupt." When Batman was preaching for two hours and half, I counted, about how corrupt the police and the politician where, the Riddle as well, but The Batman really not take any risk compared to Cape Crusader, the politician was corrupt because he was having an affair, not because he was a sellout to corporations and rich people, but at least The Penguin erase all that, and Gotham continue to be as corrupt as ever.
she still could be. batgirl can still fight for justice plus they can do the leslie grace version of batgirl now.
Ok i need to watch this ive been lazy
People's kneejerk aversion to change comes from the fact that most often it's done very poorly.
Look at all the changes disney made to star wars for an excellent example on how to run something good into the ground.
What could possibly go wrong from turning the hero of a previous series into a washed up failiure in a weak attempt to make the new character with negative stats in charisma and personality look better?
Simply put, it's bad writing.
The visual changes are what people latch onto but at the end of the day it's the horrible writing.
This has happened so much people have associated one with the other so when anything is changed... like Velma...
I consider it fair to say people have been uh
conditioned
to have this aversion to change.
And yet none of that applies to Caped Crusader 🤷♂️
@@SerumLake correct
I wonder how possible a Bat girl may appear. Gotham seems to turn people into there most extreme and flamboyant self
You mean Batwoman
Hasn't she been Batwoman in some Animated movies?
She's too overweight to fit in a costume.
while im ok with babs not being a super hero, as stephanie brown already exists with in this world and could take the role of batgirl if this show surives long enough to make that happen given shes still a child here along with several other members of the possable future bat fam. and though unlikly there is always the possability of Cass Cain, being intoroduced into this world and the idea of a cass can batgirl in a current cartoon makes me so expected that is i were to discripe it id have to age restrict my comment.
i just hope that making babs older, and not making her bat girl isnt an attempt by one bruce timm to make his crack bruce/babs ship more palatable for all of us that rightly reject that for being fucking weird
Don’t worry, he already said he rejected a producer from Amazon’s request to have Batman and Barbara be in a relationship. It won’t happen in this series.
So Batman hooks up with Talia?
Damian Wayne in CC?
I could almoat aee her going an Oracle route, except this universe does not have the IT infrastructure for it. I wonder, though, if ahe might switch to the D.A.'s office now with Harvey gone. Maybe unhappily, but out of a sense of duty to help her dad clean up the corruption.
Plus my guess this Barbara is about the same age as batman when most versions are way younger and usually have an enamoured view of him here are more like equals
...unless they pull an Ace Attorney on her.
This is a stretch but maybe this version of Nocturna will be the new batgirl?
the only way i can see her becoming batgirl is if the corrupts higher ups find a way to disbar her
Yeah, I really enjoyed the new Batman. WB has gone down hill. It seems like this is all Zazlav getting ready to sell it off. He's really badly handled being CEO.
Barbara was absolutely fine. Her being a lawyer makes just as much sense as anything else.
I did not like their take on Catwoman though.
Anything but Tara strong at this point!
Th3Birdman EWW CinemaSins Dune :Dr Kynes scene - this is another instance of this film calling back to something from the 1984 Dune as this exact thing happened in that film
only Dr Kynes was whiter and male-ier . I do want to point out the irony of this character not causing the so-called anti-woke crowd to go apeshit like they always do when a character was made black or female. it's almost like race swaps don't matter if the character's race isn't integral to the character especially when they didn't even know anything about the original character.
now I want to see Idris Elba playing The Red Skull...
okay now I WAnt Her to be The Batgirl
Readus 101 also made a very interesting video about the women in Caped Crusader; their role, their symbolism and why people should stop whining about them being POC or queer. It's called The Woke Women of Batman Caped Crusader :)
Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to check that out.
It wasn't 5 years. Like 2020 or 2021 during Pandemic
It had been in development long before it was announced.
I don't see this Barbara Gordon becoming Batgirl. Oracle, yes. Batgirl, no.
I want her to become bat girl, beacuse the bat famliy core part of what i like about batman without a robin and the rest of bat famliy, bruce wayna is boring, the bat famliy outside of the comic is very very realy used in this day and age
