Well done, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
This was a great video. Thank you. May I ask what you added as a front cooler on the transmission. I run track occasionally with a 2015 Z51 and recently experienced that overheating condition in the 3rd session. What cooler did you use, and how tough is it to install?
Stay tuned, I shot video about how to install it, but I have not put it together for a UA-cam video yet. It’s all GM OEM parts for a 2016 that you are adding.
The only way to keep the C7 Z51 auto cool on track is to add the front cooler. If you are interested in a half way solution that is easier to implement, a bigger transmission pan will give you 2-3 more laps. I have an extra one I can sell you at half price if you want.
Thanks for posting the video. The tip about the guide in the filter sliding into the slot in the trans was a good one.
Why did you decide to replace the aftermarket trans pan with the factory original?
Thanks for watching! The 2014 and 2015 cars did not have front transmission cooling and consequently their transmissions overheated on track. I was able to get two extra laps before overheat (for a total of 6) at Heartland park by adding that deep transmission pan. I recently added the front cooling to my 2015 and it does not need the deep pan anymore. I had it on the track Thursday and it kept its cool just fine!
Hello! Would torque specs be same for a 2016 camaro 2ss? Also can I use the same fluid you did since we have the same trans if im not mistaken. Im not sure if Amsoil is worth the extra money compared to moble 1 atf. Thanks for the help!
I do not know the answer to either question. I use Mobil 1 because that is what GM recommends.
7:18 Could you please provide the part number for the pink cover that covers the chain ? And can i change it easily? because it is broken !
Thanks a lot for this informative post 👍🏼
As far as I can tell, at 7:18 I’m removing the transmission filter. I don’t see a pink cover or a chain. Help me understand, say it a little differently.
Would love to hear your take on the salable VINS on the Z06! That’s big news. We are close!
Thanks Shawn! I'm betting you know it turned out that the pictures of the car on the transport truck did end up being the first CTF car sighted. Its looking like my prediction that we'd have info by this Thursday won't end up being true. I've been trying to stay quiet unless there's some new info to give, but I'll plan on making one next weekend either to apologize for being wrong or to talk about any new info.
You're right, the car is still on schedule, we are close!
@@RecordsRebuilds now there are Z06 parts being listed in dealer catalogue…..pricing might actually come this week…
awesome video, but how do u get the car through all the gears with the wheels off the ground? i know in my car i have to be going at least 50 to get into 8th gear.
Great question. Common misconception. The wheels do not need to be turning. You put the car through all the shifter positions while holding the brake down.
awesome. thank you so much
PLEASE HELP: how much should I be charged for this job? shop wants 1000 dollars plus they will do my differential fluid on c7???
Haha, no. I mean, it does take quite a bit of effort, and it takes about $200 of fluid and filters, but even at $100 per work hour, this is not an 8 hour job. Changing the diff oil is a piece of cake.
As you can see in this video, there isn’t anything that’s too tough to do, but it would be MUCH harder without a lift and transmission jack. See if you can find a friend who will let you use theirs. If you can’t find one, get quotes from a few different shops. I bet you can do better than $1000.
Of course, they might be flushing the transmission for you as well, and that takes even more fluid. I don’t flush it, I just change what’s in the pan.
@@RecordsRebuilds I have a weird noise coming from one of five of the corvettes and its either low oils in the rear diff or low tran oil its probably black and gross at this point. it sounds like a worn belt idler pulley but its probably whine or robotic metalic sounds coming from a worn rear diff gear. but it could also be the tranny not sure...
Look up how to drain and fill the rear diff. If you know your way around a car you can do that easily. I’m sorry I don’t have a video up for that. I’ll make one before next track season.
Hello, How long did it take to get the fluid up to the temp to top it off?
A good while if I remember correctly. 15-30 minutes maybe? I used an OBD reader that gave me the exact temp reading. You may have better luck driving it to get it up to temp then putting it on the lift.
@@RecordsRebuilds ok thanks for the tip. I had the car on idle for 10 mins and thought that perhaps the trans temp sensor wasn’t working. Thanks!
where did you get that c7 book?
It’s the 2015 Corvette repair manual. Usually costs about $350 for the set of 4 volumes. It comes from GM.
How did you get the fill plug back in without burning your hands on the exhaust pipe? I would guess that if wait until the car cools, the fluid will drain out the fill hole since it was previously suspended when it was hot.
You can put the fill plug in any time. It’s on top of the transmission where nothing can drain out.
Ok, thank you. I'll give it a try.
Where did you get the 10mm socket?
It’s this one: smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07R7JKG74?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
Buy it today. Last time someone asked me this question they were out of stock.
@@RecordsRebuilds thank you!
@@RecordsRebuilds Just ordered got it for $7
How many ft lbs would that be? 🤔
I know people disagree about that a lot. In real life, my family just says “lbs” as a form of short hand. The GM manuals say lb ft for everything, so I always (I think) say it that way in the videos.
That is too much work, take it to the Dealer!
You’re not wrong, but it’s a lot of work for the dealer too and they charge accordingly :) Thanks for watching!
