    So glad you watched the director’s cut. That opening sequence on earth is so important for making you care about Jake and his journey. I will never understand why it was cut from the theatrical release.

      @S. E. Walker I agree with you however, Movies with long runtimes (over 2 hrs) are often forced to cut scenes. Movies over 3hrs, reduces the amount of showings a theater can show, and less revenue a theater can make in a day versus a movie under 2 hrs. So unfortunately, many movies over 2 hrs get massive cuts, even with scenes that would be more impactful if included.

      I once read James Cameron saying that one of the things you have to do to hook the audience is to give them a great scene in the first 2 minutes of the movie, the scene on Earth is fine but that image of the people floating and the spaceship arriving at Pandora is incredible

    I agree that they shouldn’t have cut a lot of these scenes from the original cut. Especially at the end where they find Tsu’tey being fatally wounded and he asks Jake to lead the clan and end his suffering.
    Throughout the entire movie, Tsu’tey despises Jake, views him as a moron and wished him dead. Then he proves himself time and time again much to Tsu’tey’s dismay. He also steals Neytiri’s affection when she and Tsu’tey were engaged. I mean, who wouldn’t be pissed.
    But, towards the end of the film, when Jake shows up with Toruk, unites the other Na’vi clans and take the fight to the humans threatening their land, Tsu’tey gains respect for Jake. He even acknowledges Jake as his brother, even though earlier he said that he wasn’t his brother after he found out that Jake had mated with Neytiri.
    All in all, Tsu’tey was my favorite character as far as development goes, and I’m glad that they had that scene of them being there with him as he kid dying after the battle had been won. I agree that that was a beautifully done scene and it made me all emotional seeing it when I saw the extended cut for the first time.

    • @EkaterinaGoldstone
      @EkaterinaGoldstone 2 роки тому +3

      I agree with you on the character development from Tsu’tey. First, he doesn’t care about the “skxawng” Jake, and says so to the other young hunters during the Ikran bonding, as well as laughing when the Ikran tosses him over the edge while fighting. Then at the end, in that deleted scene, Tsu’tey goes on to tell Jake that he must do the duty of the clan and kill him, saying it is right. That he fought with Toruk Makto and he was his Last Shadow.
      Anyways, I also wanted to point out that I’m sad the bit of Grace explaining why she cared so much about the school and the children was blurred/muted after the bit of her explaining why the kids stopped going. “As a scientist, we’re to stay objective.. I spent 10 years of my life with that school…They called me Sa’nok” “Mother” “That kind of pain reaches back through the bond.” I believe that was important to realize why Grace was so passionate and in love with the people, beyond that of someone just enjoying the science. I just hope that her character turns out decently in the sequel, knowing that she won’t be in the main Na’vi body, as she was absorbed into Eywa because her wounds were too great to allow her the time to transfer fully into her avatar.

    • @noelleanglade1412
      @noelleanglade1412 2 роки тому +3

      I never really thought about Tsu'tey that way...I always just thought he hated Jake because he was a moron and he didn't act like the other Navi and he wanted him dead just so he could be with Neytiri...but even after Jake kept proving himself he still hated him and he was still pissed off at him even when she announced that she and Jake were now mates. But, when the film started to reach its end and Jake came back with Toruk and then united the other clans together to help fight, I realize that he actually started to respect Jake even though he was pissed off with him because he mated with Neytiri. Overall, I actually really liked Tsu'tey as a character (even though I didn't like him at first) and I was sad when he died and I am glad that he actually acknowledged Jake as a brother at the end, and made him the new chief in the process.

    • @corv1d770
      @corv1d770 Рік тому +4

      It's my understanding Tsu'tey was actually involved w neytiri's sister who died, he was already mated but widowed, he visited her at the tree so that was also very personal when Jake was involved with the tree being destroyed. More of the story that should have been given screentime imo

    I've always liked this movie. After it broke box office records it just inspired a lot of backlash from jackasses who like to bitch about anything that's popular. Is it a perfect movie? No. But there's no sense in complaining about this movie being "Dances with Wolves" or "Ferngully" in space when every single Marvel movie is pretty much exactly the same as the one that came before it. The world in Avatar is undoubtedly beautifully and lovingly created and James Cameron's action scenes put the vast majority of action blockbusters nowadays to shame.

    My mother died on January 10th 2010 to lose her so suddenly after 30years of marriage my father was absolutely devastated, he spent ages just sitting about doing nothing because without her he was missing a piece of himself.
    In the hope of cheering him up even slightly I took him to see Avatar in 3D at my local cinema, the film blew him away and for the first time in months he seemed genuinely happy about something and would talk about this film non-stop.
    People can insult Avatar and claim it's unoriginal, but it will always hold a special place in my heart because a few years later my father confessed that the death of my mother destroyed him and he was seriously contemplating killing himself but the experience of seeing Avatar in 3D helped him break out of his grief a little and helped to make him realise the effect his death would have on me and my brothers so he focused on other things putting all thoughts of suicide aside.

    Great movie, it receives more hate today than it deserves, I think mostly because of contrarians. But you can’t diss the story, it’s an age old narrative that will never get old because it will always be relevant. Most stories we love today have been told for thousands of years, the hero’s journey, the battle of good vs. evil and the under dog rising up to stand above the rest. It’s all engaging to the human psyche and will always be, and this story and setting is beautiful.

    That's the thing, Dances with Wolves, even in a historical context is hardly the first example of conquerors exploiting native lands, no matter the region. You have the Spaniards colonizing (and decimating most of the local populations) of S. America up through the N. American west coast. You have the Dutch taking over S. Africa, you have the Chinese exploiting N. Africa, you have the British exploiting Australia and pretty much every other country, you have the French doing the same in various African nations, and so on and so forth. Even as a fictional planet such as Pandora, the same story is playing out. I'm keeping it short to avoid a vast wall of text, but this is basic human history.

A lot of people make that Dances with Wolves connection, but you are 100% right that conquerors exploiting native lands is not a new thing, so those people really need to get over themselves. This was a fictional story using a very real historical concept to drive the story.

    I think the hate for the movie comes partly from what I saw as overhype. When you make something sound the best thing ever, it better deliver on that in every way. The excitement of people in the cinema with this beautiful world full of details left me and the people in the room in awe. In the scene of the attack on the home tree, me and the entire movie theater cried with revolt. In the war scene when Pandora's animals revolted against humans, the whole cinema vibrated and screamed with joy and happiness! And I remember the revolt everyone felt when that guy with the scar on his face didn't die the plane crash and almost killed Jake. I remember everyone screaming for joy when the bastard finally died! @@bluelagoon1980 I watch about 50 UA-cam videos a day. So yeah, I shave off a few minutes per video where they do intros or outros or sponsorships. Don’t berate me without knowing the situation. I work full time, stream, do art commissions, live on my own so do all chores on my own too and cook for myself, work on my hobbies etc. So you trying to clown on me for “saving a few seconds” really is just you looking like an ass. Those who cannot understand the rules around reaction videos, should not even let it bother you, you know the ones who stick around are the ones you can focus on! I wouldn't call them connecting their tails with anything intercourse even when they do it together, they cut away from their connection and they're wearing loin cloths I assume they have genitals. I think of the hair connection like a direct version of the mind drift in Pacific Rim.

    I remember when this movie first came out. I was playing a lot of video games so never seen a trailer or heard much about it since I wasn't watching any TV. Started hearing great things about the 3d, so I went to the movie knowing nothing about it, but wanted to experience the 3d. I was absolutely blown away, and immersed more deeply into it then any other movie, even still so to today. I can not wait until the next 3 sequels finally come out starting next holiday season with Avatar 2 and each other following each year after. I just hope it doesn't ruin the nostalgia like all the Star Wars sequels did (for me anyway). I also wish 3d would have progressed more. I think it died out way to soon. With today's 4k detail and HDR colors, I think 3D would be so amazing. We'll see what James Cameron has in store for us. One of the delays to his sequel is the fact technology wasn't available to do some effects he had envisioned like holographic 3d where glasses won't be needed. So he has patiently waited until the technology was available to do many of his ideas for the sequels such as advanced 3d and under water filming.

    32:48 there's a certain magic to watching a movie for the first time, not knowing what will happen next, not yet seeing the shots and lines that will cement themselves into your mind. Cap using the hammer was an amazing scene but you only get that first real rush one time. You already know Rocky loses his first fight. You already know Darth Vader is Luke's father. So when you sit down with your friend or your wife or your kids to watch something, half of it is absorbing their first time seeing it, living that experience again, vicariously through them.
    The bread and butter of ReactionTube is finding a channel you can relate to and reliving that through them. So yes, first watches work best for that. But if your reaction and commentary is a good watch, you still give people a good experience. They've seen the movie. You've seen the movie. But they haven't seen the movie "with" you. And that still counts for something. You keep doing you. That's why people watch you in the first place.

    I like this movie an awful lot - I held out for the extended edition because I wanted the longest possible version of this film. But I think the theatrical release is the best. What was trimmed out is good, but it's already so long that cuts did need to be made. Norm and Tsu'tey are the only characters who lost some big character development. Also, Worthington's Aussie accent is super obvious in the extended scenes.
    My bottom line: if you like the theatrical version, watch the extended- it's more of what you like. If you haven't seen the film, don't start with the extended.
