To this day...a childhood memory feel good film for me. The music, even the film quality catches the end of the 60's when I was a child. The ending sequence makes me cry....how pathetic. How perfect and magical.
It makes me cry as well so color me pathetic. I think we are crying because that purity of comedy is extinct. I think we are mourning the memory of the lights going up in a movie PALACE...the elaborate art deco murals on the walls...the concession stand and how two people, even in the 70's when I started dating, could go out to the movies, get two cokes and popcorns and candy drop only 8 or 9 bucks...at the most! Yes, cry for those times--- they deserve to be mourned.
My friend, as you, this ending made me cry!!!! I feel some sad with the música, but even that make me cry, I love and enjoy this movie every time that I wacht. My father took me to the movie theater in 1987. I was 7 years old.
Im 38 years old and never dated actually but i know exactly how poisonous is nostalgia 😔😔 something inside of you that the 26 alphabetical letters cannot explain
I feel the same exact! I completely agree with you, It was one of my most favorite childhood time when I saw this movie and I was 8 years old and today still takes me back to that sweet moment. I cry too every time I see the end and makes me think how different things were those days!
🔹️ Brilliant Comedy Character actor Steve Franken, definitely the 2nd most memorable character in the film after Peter Sellers. And what spectacular performances by both of them. This is definitely an epic film ❗👀👍❕
What a classic - I am not a Blake Edwards "kind of guy" but with "The Party" and Peter Sellers' unbelievable per!formance, he blew my mind. We had this movie to evaluate (critique study) in Cinema School back in 1969. What a movie! Thank you for the memories of a time of innocence and freedom, Ciao, L (Baby Boomer)
I agree with comments below. What a wonderful movie Peter Sellers is a true genius. My grandmother loved him and we saw this movie when I was a little kid. Just like the other commentator said, I get tears in my eyes listening to the theme song at the end. There’s something delightfully innocent about it like all things nostalgic that have come to an end. I particularly like the pool table scene with the cowboy!
The party gets groovy and everyone here loses control, yeah Our minds fly away, as the band starts to play we rock and roll Come on, baby, listen to me here now No time for meditations Just feel the wild vibrations We'll learn some new sensations Tonight All night long All night long Yeah! The party goes crazy as we see the night turn into day, yeah And that's when you find your inhibited mind is blown away Come on, baby, listen to me here now We'll swing till we're insane here Easy to blow your brain here That's why we'll all remain here Tonight All night long All night long All night long All night long
I’d like to dedicate this comment to my grandfather, who introduced me to this movie when I was a kid. Many times I found myself out of air because I couldn’t stop laughing over it I wish he had lived long enough for me to actually enjoy his presence… I didn’t have the mind I have now, but still. May you be up there in a Party like this one. And may we meet again one day
Really feeling how well that maid moves.... she really knew how to dance. I say 'knew' because well, she's like 80yrs old now lol. Frances Davis is her name, to be exact. Was formerly married to Miles Davis, the legend. Who knew?
The Party contains in my opinion the funniest sight gag in the history of film...it is the head chef choking the waiter in the background with the swinging doors aiding and abetting the gag. Too, it is all the more funnier because the sight gag has been building for a half hour, with a tidbit here and there indicating the increasing tension between the head chef and his drunken waiter...the climax of the gag where the ...well, just watch the movie-- you'll dig it the most!
TheFilmSeriesReviewer--- Wow, I never heard that! I wonder at what point Blake was considering editing that bit and, can you imagine the movie w/out that sight gag in it? For me, it is an exquisite example of "pure film" I can think of...at least in a comedy. The scene in Love And Death maybe, where Woody and Diane Keaton, as the film goes silent, take turns bashing each other in the head with a Vase so their ruse to assassinate Napoleon would not be found out! Thanks for the great info TFSR!
@Rydder Johnston I don't know HOW I have not seen this comment until now---Wow, I never knew that. What a loss if the MUSIC of the tense tango the waiter and chef had been dancing to had been monkeyed with. PLUS, the thought of Blake Edwards on the floor laughing is PRICELESS!! Birdie num-nums!!

This was fire-suppression foam provided by the Los Angeles Airport Fire Department, and it was very difficult to swim through. The actor playing the drunk butler had to beg the woman in the hanging wicker chair to pour water on his face, for real, when he surfaced at her feet, which she fortunately did.
Man, what I wouldn't give to find out what that song is. The only clue I have is it's by Henri Mancini. Is it the exact same thing played in the beginning of the movie (instrumental)? I can't quite make out all of the lyrics, in the lyric version. Any ideas? Any clues?
