- This is a videoessay I did for my thesis.
The first part is from Tokyo-Ga, a documentary by Wim Wenders. This extract is the perfect definition of what a pillow shot at it's core is.
The other 3 main parts of the video are: Ozu's early work (B&W), Ozu's late work, other directors' more recent work.
Music is: • 稷廬 / jì lú - 山與客聽 / Mo...
Movies used:
• Late spring, 1949, Yasujirō Ozu
• Tokyo Story, 1953, Yasujirō Ozu
• Early Spring, 1956, Yasujirō Ozu
• Tokyo Twilight, 1957, Yasujirō Ozu
• Floating Weeds, 1959, Yasujirō Ozu
• Late autumn, 1960, Yasujirō Ozu
• Tokyo-Ga, 1985, Wim Wenders (intro)
• Before Sunrise, 1995, Richard Linklater
• The thin red line, 1998, Terrence Malick
• Yi yi, 2000, Edward Yang
• Still walking, 2008, Hirokazu Kore'eda
• The tree of life, 2011, Terrence Malick
• Father and son, 2013, Hirokazu Kore'eda
• Before we go, 2014, Chris Evans
• La grande bellezza, 2015, Paolo Sorrentino
• Columbus, 2017, Kogonada
I do not own any rights of the materials used in this video (films, music). This video doesn't have any commercial purpose.
Yet to watch any of Ozu's films but this is beautiful. I love when films feature still shots like this. The accompanying music is so calm.
Can you make a list of the films from the last segment, the one where modern films are shown? I felt like Before Sunrise was there
Yes! It's one of them. I'll update the description with the list.
