Doesn’t he . Some of the smoothest relaxing music I have ever heard. I never knew what finger style guitar playing was to recently. He is a master at it.
Earl used to teach guitar at Capital music in detroit in the 70's....and has influenced a lot of people with his beautiful style. He credits his magnificent touch mainly to Chet Atkins. Who is a fingerstyle guitarist out of Nashville. When i heard Dr. Macumba, i stopped playing Rock guitar, and gravitated toward the beautiful richness of the Nylon string guitar. Its because of Earl, that i studied Classical Guitar, and Jazz. "LOVE YOU MAN"!!! Thank you so much!!! And we wish you the BEST!!🙏🏽
One minstrel and one song ….. nothing else except the spiritual energy that lifts those who listen, to lofty heights which is rarely accomplished in music by one human being.
If you ever wonder how a person can freely, blissfully fly, time travel & have that sensation of falling in love over and over again, without an effort to utter a single word: That's the power of the sound that comes from the human heart & soul. Thank you Earl for sharing the blessing of good music.
Watching him perform this song is amazing. The technique is incredible and the melody is amazing. Have turned fellow detroiters on to his music with great pride. One of the finest jazz musicians ever.
I have a theory: maybe he struggles the same as other guitarists, but he just manages to keep his face calm the whole time? No, he's just a natural, plain and simple.
Thank you very much KLUGH, j'apprécie ta musique, je t'admire , tu es parmi mes guitaristes préférés !!! Je prie DIEU pour qu'un jour DIEU me donne la possibilité de vous voir de mes yeux et assister à un de tes concerts !!!
I just got introduced to him. I was asleep on the couch, left the tv on and he was playing with Al Turner on Fox5 NY live to promote his show at the Blue Note.....and immediately looked him up. Funny how you find life's treasures sometimes.
Earl Klugh is a genius guitarist of our time... no one played like he did in the 70's when he was top of his game. An unique artist with style of his own... love him so much.
What a gift.. I'm crying like a baby right now. I grew up listening to Earl Klugh from the influence of my father. This song is so beautiful that words can hardly describe. RIP my big brother, Elijah, I dedicate this song to you. You are a beautiful soul. Until we meet again, I love you. May God forgive and have mercy on you
Hakeem Shaheed I know exactly what you mean. Glad to know there’s someone else who gets so overwhelmed with emotion when listening to songs like this. So pretty it hurts.
Heard Klugh over thirty years ago and still remember how his music felt the first time I heard it. For me, there is a softness and tone that touches me even after all these years.
I discovered him around that time as well, in college. And "Heart String" is my fav album, too. I can't get enough of "Waiting for Cathy," and of course, "Heart String." Be blessed.
Curtis Butler I agree Heart String is his best and Earl has a lot of great work. Acoustic Lady Pt 1 & 2 is great. I just saw him this past Friday and as usual didn't disappoint!
whenever i listen to This Time, it always brings me back to the world i was a little girl. It took years for me to find out who is Earl Klugh finally. and it's always nice to listen to this song many times until i am old :) No doubt.
I was privileged to shake his hand and have him autograph one of his CDs 💿 in my albums collection, this was in 2015 Standard Bank Jazz concert in Lusaka, Zambia 🇿🇲. We had a brief chat before I could make a way for others to shake his hand too. He's friendly, low tone voiced and calm. He is an excellent musician whose music I fell in love with back in the 80s. He's one of my favourite music Stars 🎶 the world over!
My mother took me to an Al Jarreau concert earlier today, and this guy came on half way through and played this song while Al sang. It was the most beautiful thing I've heard in my life, I cried all of the way through it. Damn.
I had the blessing of seeing him preform live , and let me tell you .. He goes from this type stuff to all out shredding and it's something to behold . One of the masters
if this sound is really live... man... check out how nice of a touch he has and how seamless his transitions are. it's sometimes easy to play songs on instruments. but to make it sound so flawless and the detail so gracefully nuanced is very difficult and makes all the difference to the listener. this type of musician silences my mind and soul; he demands my awe-struck attention. i really hope young people are still out there trying to be this type of person instead of possibly gifted individuals striving to be rappers...
i know how difficult it is to understand the invisible world and all that is happening " behind the scenes " ............. for me , it took a lot of humility which brought a " teachable spirit " and Earl is very humble and ( for me ) a good example . thanks for your reply..... respect
I can hear the patience in his song. He truly is at peace & ONE with his instrument, I'm sure that with such a power he could, if he wanted to, part the seas with an effortless tune. This man is a great giver of himself & is without fear, Thank you Earl.
I just love Earl. Ive been listening to him since early 80s. My finger painting tape has only just worn out.. and thats over 25years old. Talented, under marketed. Glad to see you have a website up and running. Magic fingers.
dont wish man...DO it!! you can!! music is a gift to all of us..we jus gotta take it!! your so true.. comin home afta a hard day and turning this on...wow!!
Earl Klugh and George Benson are beautiful guitarists. "This Time" kinda sounds like how Sunday feels.
Somehow, that is such an appropriate description. WoW. Well done.👏🏾👏🏾
Wow! Sunday's must have felt beautiful to you. Sunday's (for me) have always been filled by an immovable and almost unbearable sadness.
Earl Klugh is a peaceful person. He plays for peace to soothe our soul.
Doesn’t he . Some of the smoothest relaxing music I have ever heard. I never knew what finger style guitar playing was to recently. He is a master at it.

Earl the Pearl …
Natural player who's at one with his guitar. Beautiful playing!
This can fix so many of my stressed out moments.
If you ever wonder how a person can freely, blissfully fly, time travel & have that sensation of falling in love over and over again, without an effort to utter a single word: That's the power of the sound that comes from the human heart & soul. Watching him perform this song is amazing. The technique is incredible and the melody is amazing. Have turned fellow detroiters on to his music with great pride. One of the finest jazz musicians ever.
One of the best ever solo guitar songs ever written. You can tell this is the song playing in Earl Klugh''s heart.
Indeed ❤
I totally agree. I always think that. Nice to see someone else sees that.
I have a theory: maybe he struggles the same as other guitarists, but he just manages to keep his face calm the whole time? No, he's just a natural, plain and simple.

I find my stress washing away with the waves of his melodies. I feel nothing but peace.
So many don't know how far his music spread. One of the first touring the orient. He's such an inspiration
I've known Earl Klugh's music as a small child in the late 1970s in faraway Lagos City
Earl's playing makes the world go away, if only for a few minutes. Truly sublime.
I just got introduced to him. I was asleep on the couch, left the tv on and he was playing with Al Turner on Fox5 NY live to promote his show at the Blue Note.....and immediately looked him up. Funny how you find life's treasures sometimes.
Always keep your eyes open, there are many many treasures to be found...
This sent chills up my spine. Such an amazing piece of art
i use to have a sailboat and we would listen to this album over and over . Earl Klugh's level of natural talent just shines .
Earl Klugh is a genius guitarist of our time... no one played like he did in the 70's when he was top of his game. An unique artist with style of his own... love him so much.

Like most of Earl's music this track has a major problem - its just not long enough! Pure genius!
Really a joy to listen to. There is a very nice version Earl does of this song
with Al Jarreau doing a great job on the vocals. Well worth a listen.
My mother took me to an Al Jarreau concert earlier today, and this guy came on half way through and played this song while Al sang. It was the most beautiful thing I've heard in my life, I cried all of the way through it. Damn.
God bless you Earl for blessing us with this tune
A talented, beautiful spirit man! I have been to at least 14 of his concerts ( 70's till now!) Outstanding individual!
