All-New BMW X3 Review

- The all-new 2019 BMW X3 is larger than the last model, in fact, it is bigger than the original X5. This new model has a familiar look, with a bolder front grille and bumper, sleeker looking body and duel exhaust tips. There is still a 248hp 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder as the base model, called 30, and an optional M40 with 355hp. The power goes to al four wheels through a 9-speed automatic. The starting price has gone up, now starting at $48,000.
As the owner of the 2015 X3, I appreciate the evolutionary approach. It ensures that older models are never completely "out of fashion".
Agreed!
lol
Subtle, no real changes??? The car you are showing is with the "M" Package. I took delivery of this exact vehicle (in white) just two months ago. It is so different compared to the old X3! I wouldn't have bought the old X3. Your report, especially on the performance is indeed correct with the four cylinder. If you think that the interior isn't better, much better than before, then you are truly blind. I love this car. It is quiet, as you say. The four cylinder is a little lacking with it's 190 hp. The six cylinder diesel is much better with lots of torque and loads of acceleration. I'm English but live in Germany. I have been driving BMW for over 12 years. 5 series estate 2006, Z4 2006, Z4 2011, 5 series estate 2012, 4 series Grand Coupe 2016, X3 2018. They have always been slow on making the interior look exciting and dynamic. With the new X3 and the X5 2018, this has all changed for the positive. I have test driven everything fron Grand Cherokee to Audi Q5 (all in the same range level). Nothing compares to the driveability of the BMW SUV range of vehicles.
Zack this one looks quite different than the previous one. While it is true BMW is quite evolutionary, BMW is blessed with an iconic look that’s just too valuable to set aside. You see other brands languishing when it comes to design identity, going all over the place with the only constant being the logo. BMW is different, for 30+ years they had an amazing singular design identity
I love my X3.. it's a 2007 and I am ready for an upgrade but I am absolutely OK with the idea that the changes are subtle because I love it.
Come on man, it defenetitely looks different from the previous gen.
Very subtle changes and the interior does not look any different than it did from previous models. It's one thing to evolve I guess but when people hear "All-New" they expect big changes
I like the BMW interiors. Functional.
JUST BOUGHT this car a few months ago ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I promise I am NOT a paid blogger or spokesperson, I just love thus car.
...I totally agree with the Reviewer about BMW's conservative, incremental styling approach....on the INTERIOR. But not about the EXTERIOR. After all, this is an SUV, not a sports car. And yet, the nuanced face lift IN PERSON is much more muscular and aggressive. It's also as you said, a bigger car now. I just bought a new X3 4 cylinder biturbo with 4 wheel XDrive, bigger tires, Premium Trim Level (highest level next to the M Package), and I love it. It's a good thing Bimmer is just also about to release its updated X5. Because when I was shopping, seeing the NEW X3 sitting right next to a CURRENT X5...the size difference and quality differences were virtually indistinguishable! In fact, with its beefier kidney grill and bulgier styling, it's better looking. I'd say the new X3 now looks like 85-90% of what an X5 is...at considerably lower price!
To the interior...YES...BMW is taking NO risks whatsoever. Interior styling IS pretty boring vs swoops new space age interiors in its class. HOWEVER, Bimmer does what it does best: UTTERLY FINESSED FUNCTIONALITY: a button or a menu for everything car setting imaginable and a ULTRA INTUITIVE touch interface with its Nav-infotainment Screen! About one week in...IT WAS LIKE AN EXTENSION OF MY BODY. Even the fussy little gear shifter which I hated at first, now made perfect sense with use. THAT'S my point: it is obvious BMW relentlessly researches every little minor nuance of how a human interacts with its machines...and it OPTIMIZES that interaction...flawlessly. Every button, every dial, every click, every scroll is EXACTLY where it should be. My point is, the outward styling of what I just described may not be sexy, but it freaking WORKS, making the driving experience VIRTUALLY EFFORTLESS which means FUN! I just got out of one of the most sexy-UFO interiors made recently, the Lincoln MKZ 3.7 liter. Total Buck Rodgers Jetsons interior...but a NIGHTMARE of DYSFUNCTIONALITY!
...This is why you buy a BMW...its hardheaded DETERMINATION to put FUNCTION over FORM (ironic, the opposite of German Bauhaus!). Granted, you can have both functionality and sexiness, but that is a long process that ALL cars are now struggling with that, especially given the ever-escalating complexity of infotainment systems & screens. I will say the iDrive infotainment system (with Apple Car Play) is near flawless. I especially like how BUTT-SIMPLE the navigation is. You literally depress the voice control button on your steering wheel and say, "Take me to...XYZ," and BAM!...guidance loads instantly. And you can do it while rolling, which some systems don't allow.
...Another word on INTERIOR: Despite it's more conservative styling, the interior FIT & FINISH IS SUPERB. And as you can tell, I'm super-picky. It reeks luxury and-not mentioned at all in reviews-the X3 is VERY COMFORTABLE, and surprisingly SPACIOUS for what is essentially a now a tweener-midsize'ish SUV. A lot of the spaciousness comes from the X3's TALLER GREENHOUSE vs many in its class. Again the results are a taller/boxier profile which isn't as sexy looking as the swoopier raked, low slung rooflines seen on competitors. The front seats are VERY ERGONOMIC, even on LONG DRIVES, with myriad adjustments, including a sliding adjustable thigh support which I've not encountered in either Lexus or Benz. Minor complaint: at this price range ($46K US) out the door, the steering wheel should have electric adjustments. They are manual, and steering wheel doesn't swing out of the way for easier entrance/exit.
...DRIVING EXPERIENCE: of my four wheel XDrive with the 30i biturbo engine. Yes, it's not the more powerful inline-6 on the M package. It is bank-vault quiet (much improved over its predecessors!) and more fun to drive than a UFO! And yes, it does run out of breath on the very top end a bit, like during rapid acceleration to pass a car on the highway above 75 mph. HOWEVER, the 4-cylinder is torquey as hell, with rocket acceleration for 80% of my driving UNDER 70mph. BMW aspirates the 4 with a TWIN SCROLL BiTURBO...which has completely eliminated the previous X3's turbo lag. Total smooth, responsive power. And when you floor it, it JUMPS. Please note, brief passing situations at top highway speeds aside, I've driven my X3 on the freeway at 80, 90+ mph, and there was no struggle, the X3 quietly and quickly delivered all the speed I needed. It's just it's missing that momentary jackrabbit punch at speeds ABOVE 70mph. Think about that, that's maybe what...2% if your driving? Combined with ultra intuitive shift points on its automatic transmission (in one of multiple SPORT-MODEs which you can customize, the car shifts EXACTLY where I would shift in a manual). The suspension delivers just enough road feel to balance comfort with handling. The car is AGILE and sticks to road like glue; with minimal body roll for such a tall SUV greenhouse. You would expect a BMW to be a tad stiffer than its cushier luxury competitors, just to keep you in touch with the road more-and it does, just right...this car is a SWEETSPOT on WHEELS.
....OVERALL, I find my X3 is SO much FUN to drive and so well mannered, I don't want to get out of it. I've been coming with excuses for road trips and I'm racking up the miles already!
...BONUS POINTS: In exchange for going with the 4 cylinder biturbo and not going with the much pricier inline 6 cylinder M Package, I get EXCELLENT GAS MILEAGE, and gas prices are starting to CLIMB again. I used to have to fill my 300hp Lincoln MKZ V6 about once a week. The X3 maybe once every two weeks with lots of city driving. Combined with the X3's generous gas tank, this gives me a DRIVING RANGE of about 348 miles, which makes the X3 a seriously seductive ROAD TRIP CAR that is also happy to do your daily hauling in (BMW) style and comfort.
...I highly recommend this superbly finessed, understated car. It over-delivers on almost every count.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great comments Robert! I agree which is why I've ordered a 2019 X3 and will pick up in October. As an engineer, I really like tech, and I believe BMW has the finest tech overall with heads-up display, surround view camera system, idrive infotainment system, etc. It's a very well rounded vehicle besides the fact that it handles so well and shifts so smoothly without sacrificing comfort and practicality.
Thanks for the book, Robert. Is it available in paperback? But seriously, the 2019 X3 does look great. I don't drive standard, but automatic. What have you heard of the BMW X3 automatic?
Great report. I ordered my 2019 X3 3.0 Ultimate Package in late August and still waiting likely mid-Nov is the delivery. Might be due to the Hurricanes along the East Coast, I’ve been reading BMW fan blogs and many others have commented about their orders are delayed. BMW must be doing something right. No complaints from existing buyers and customer orders are patiently waiting and still excited without complaints.
Yes i can tell it's all new did you see the ''all new Audi q5'' before you said that ... No you are really skeptical to BMW
Excellent review and appreciate the honesty. Lot of good information, but still proceeded to order a 2019 X3 model. The exterior and interior designs might be stale, but the driving, safety features, info system, interior/cargo space, LED headlamps and utility features are the best overall. Audi has the best interior, amazing info system and lots of good tech features, but they have a bland unchanged exterior. MB GLC is beautiful inside and out, but it’s becoming dated after a few years and smallest interior and cargo areas. GLC was my choice until the X3 was released. You really can’t go wrong with any of the Germans, the BMW X3 seems to be the best vehicle currently on the market.
Astute observations! I agree which is why I did the same as you and ordered a 2019 X3.
After I tried out other brands, I got 2018 X3 and love it!
I have a 2017 X3 with the 2.0 litre 4 cylinder. Great vehicle. The 4 cylinder is plenty powerful. Lots of room, drives great, good gas mileage, comfortable. It really is a great vehicle. I would buy another no problem. In fact, I might look at the M40 for some added sport and fun. I don't understand your comment about highway speeds. I've had no problem at all at highway speeds. I have to make a conscious effort to slow myself down becasue it easily cruises at very high and illegal speeds. Sure the 6 cylinder is faster but the turbo 4 is plenty. I agree with you on the BMW options. That's where they make their money, but it's ridiculous the way they gouge you with the options.
The X3 will be more popular choice since it is now as big as the original X5.
I agree, it reminds me my X5 second gen, pretty good looking SAV
Haha, cool point of view. I got a buddy who loves his BMWs for this very reason, that you can't tell em 10 years apart.. I think they could take more chances though.. on the flip side, what I don't like are what Japanese brand do and completely overhaul designs from one generation to the next you can't tell one corolla or Civic are related from two gens ago let alone one
I agree 100%
but it drives like no other. I always wondered why people liked bmws until I drove one, the drive is excellent, everything else is ordinary
Carpediem06 ...this why a major factor in why Bimmers have such high resale value. The older ones don't look hopelessly dated vs the new ones!
I bought a 2012 BMW X3 last year and nobody can really tell it's an older vehicle except probably the BMW enthusiasts. The only "tell" is my nav system. This probably helps with resale - the design is timeless. It is a really nice design, I don't think it needs a big overhaul. I really hate it when companies take a great product, change it drastically to 'shake things up,' and end up ruining a good thing. I prefer the small, iterative improvements
I think BMW is not taking any chances because their sales are really great. However, in the past they have been hurt from drastic changes which led to them being so careful.
They ave been conservative in the style department since the negative reaction to that God awful E65 7 Series
Love EVERYTHING about the evolutionary X3. The traditional German styling is classy and elegant. The interior is businesslike and functional. All of the well heeled millennial types want flashy style and Wizz bang interior infotainment. I'm a driver, I want straightforward controls and great vehicle dynamics. The price tag with the packages is OBSCENE, though I love the X3.
Bmw now means poor reliability.
Porsche doesn’t take any chances and you love Porsche...
Have you seen the inside of the new Panamera? Nothing like the last one.
@@Motormouth... yes, when I think of Porsche, I think of the worst selling vehicle with a front mounted engine that is not a boxer(flat) design, Panamera. Not the 911. You nailed it. Porsche is known for the Panamera. If you use the Panamera, then let's talk i8
Give me a break. They updated the tech, but the overall design of the Panamera's interior is hardly different.
It's totally different. You haven't driven one I guess.
Apart from the screen and unfortunate lack of physical buttons not much has drastically changed Zack, no offense. It's an evolution not a revolution of a well received car - just what core buyers of driver focused cars like Porsche and BMW are looking for.
X3 got it 3 days ago, so much fun to drive I feel young again More power / technology awesome
A subtle change is still a change. I love it. Absolutely gorgeous mid size luxury suv.
Is this good for a 1st time car ? Im getting this when I’m 18 I’m exited
thats exactlly what we like about bmw... if u want changes every year go to kia...
The Audi screen is low, so you take your eyes off the road and it’s touch screen. The same goes for simply changing the temp in an Audi.
I like the simplicity of BMW’s infotainment and air conditioning controls. Audi took a step way back. Yes, the infotainment appears more modern, though it’s no functional. It forces you to look way down on the console, find the touchscreen to change the temperature? That’s not a step forward. That’s overthinking it.
This BMW M40 nickel and dimes you in up to over 60k with hard plastics?
This might be the most heavily optioned 30i I have even seen with adaptive cruise control, leather dashboard, ventilated seats
BMW clearly seem to put their focus on driving dynamics, which is how it should be. I appear to be one of a few that actually appreciates a good clean design even if it’s not that different to the predecessor. Last time bmw took a leap designwise the guy in charge was Chris bangle and everyone hated it. Personally I am a firm believer in “never change a running system”.
Was just going to add, look at Lexus. They took a chance and everyone agrees it was not for the better. If it isn't broke, don't fix it. See every 911
Couldn't have said it any better. Even porsche slipped up on the new four-door cars interiors, I feel. Porsches (just like BMWs) used to be known for their great ergonomics - every button was exactly where you expected it. For the new generation, they simply removed all the buttons and replaced it with some kind of touchpad (which isn't nearly as tactile) just for the sake of "modernizing". Kinda like removing the AUX-bus on the iPhone 7. Utterly pointless.
exactly!!!! I dont want see a "new BMW design" and it looks like an Audi.... BMW should like a BMW... if it aint broke dont fix it
It seemed that naturally the X3 would grow in size,; as did the Lexus RX, the CRV, and all other ‘C’UV’s. I used to think that the older X5 was oversized (considering the inside space) ... so I am amazed that this new X3 is now similar in size. Great review Zack... as always. Thanks.
I actually like that they’re evolutionary and focused on driving dynamics. What I think should change is their pricing, making the premium package standard without jacking up the already expensive price.
Pretty sure you can tell its the new X3
The rear end looks way better
I guess if you don't spend a significant amount of time looking at all the bimmers it would be hard to tell that this X3 is brand new?
I don't know Zach... It's pretty blatant to me at least.
Are you crazy????.The new X3 is completly different than the old model. And wayyy bigger
Merc is ahead bit many of its cars are sub-premium e.g. C Class. Many Audis as well. One example- all BMWs are ULSAB-AC frames (repackaged as CLAR), a licensed Porsche Tech. Which is why they never corrode in decades, or do so very slowly if abused, and original x3s in salty Canadian winters are still pristine- and their treatments back the was less than today. 12 years unlimited corrosion warranty (not Merc) for a reason. Lexus, top of sales, rusts hear 2 in Montreal, subchassis, trunk etc. With BMW one trully gets what they pay for. Engineering wise, excluding a more dynamic interior, the nearest rival to this X3 is the Porsche Macan which is at the top tier ULSAB AC price and options.
I would agree with you. I'm driving a 2017 BMW 3-series and about to trade up to new SUV. My choise fell on the Volvo XC60 instead of the X3. The X3 interior is just to similar to my 2017 3-series. There is nothing new that exites me in the interior in the X3.
Why does it feel like u are nervous and you dint really enjoy his review 🤔
So overpriced!! Like you said, they start at 48k Canadian, looking at local inventory online in my area, (Kitchener) the cheapest one is 57k and all the way up to 71k! Badge whoring at it's best! People are nuts to spend that kind of money on this.
What a load of nonsense, this car looks quite different from the previous version. The lights are different, the grill is bigger, the tail light design is different....what planet is this presenter from ?
i like cars that don't change every year. Companies that do that are just after your money. I like a car with style that lasts 10 years at least lol
Great video! I love your video's and the colour on that X3 is fantastic!
When a Porsche fan complains about evolutionary design...
I waiting for the new 2019 to arrive at the dealerships! $5K more! So a top of features with a based 4 cylinder will be around $66K U.S. $80K for 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder will be $96K; X5M $129K!
Looks good but in my opinion for the price BMW falls short on electronics and Apps, I would take a very close look at Collision Avoidance systems and the reliability of smart phone apps when considering this car and its competition. I was hoping to get a new X3 or X5 but I will keep my 2011 X3 3.0 much longer.
Dude are you for real? They look NOTHING like each other.
This guy does not know what happened to BMW back in the early 2000's when they radically designed their cars with "flame surfacing" design language.
People were at an uproar and demanded that their designer, Chris Bangle, be put in jail for such radically different design from BMW heritage.
Some almost turned violent - that's how much such change offended BMW lovers!
So ever since then, BMW changes their designs very little.
They learned their lesson the very hard way!
I generally enjoy most of your reviews, but I got to tell you that this review was pretty weak and biased for whatever reason. I remember seeing your review on the Audi Q5 (which didn't change much at all from the previous design) and you raved about it. I did a careful side-by-side comparison between the new BMW X3 and Audi Q5, and I do believe you get more for your money with the Q5 in the low and mid trim lines. However, when you step up to the higher trim lines that are more fully loaded, the X3 wins hands down in most categories including driving dynamics, transmission smoothness, cargo area layout, and technology. It has a state of the art heads up display, surround view camera, and it's infotainment system is second to none. Nearly all the technology was updated for the new X3, drawing from the 5 and 7 Series, so I would argue that there were significant tech changes to the X3. The Q5 does have the fantastic google earth virtual cockpit (costing $30/mo to keep) and I would say it's interior and exterior looks might be slightly better than the X3 (it's subjective), but the price goes way up on the Q5 if you want the highest Prestige trim line. There's a reason why Consumer Reports rates the X3 as the top luxury compact SUV because it is so well rounded with high predicted reliability partly because BMW didn't mess too much with what already works well. There are great choices in this segment, but we chose to order a nearly fully loaded X3 over the Q5 for nearly the same price and will be picking it up in Spartanburg, SC at the BMW Performance Delivery Center in October - can't wait!
Great choice Kim and a befitted reply to what I too thought was a biased review. Couldn't have said it any better. 2015 435xi coupe driver, considering the X3 for spouse.
@@hbagenda Thanks Hitesh. I like Zach, but I don't believe he was fair in this review probably due to his preferences and bias against BMW. We all have biases and I actually had strong negative biases against BMW for many years which I discovered was unfounded once I actually opened my mind and did a lot of evidence based research. As an engineer, I'm so impressed with how BMW engineers their vehicles which is why I'm getting the X3 for my wife (though I'll get to drive it on weekends and long trips). Can't wait!
I totally agree with you. I feel this was quite a bit biased against the X3 and its not fair at all. I test drove all the three top brands and chose the X3. I was inclining towards the GLC and IMO, I think its only the badge appeal thats keeping the GLC sales going - it looks so archaic compared to the other two.
BTW, Congrats on your X3 - its a wonderful car and wishing you many many miles of happy motoring.
@@arvind50 Thank you Arvind. Looking forward to getting our X3 and already reading the manual in preparation. It's an incredible vehicle.
Congratulations for your new X3. Enjoy and drive safely.
as a bmw f30 owner and looking into the new x3, I cant agree more with what he points out. BMW certainly, I would argue, produce THE BEST driving and handling cars in the class and I love my 328xi so far for 4 years and more on the road. But the styling and cheap outs on LED light and some other stuff have been very notorious. Hey BMW, improve your interior and be just a little bit more generous or I bet you will lose some bimmers in the future.
Transmission is precise and it has paddles! Sport mode, handles like on rails, quiet. Roomy, yet very personal. What's not to like? will it be long term reliable?
If you think 240 Plus HP isn’t enough and neither is 0 to 100 in 6.4 seconds, you have problems... you come across as someone who does 250 on the highway.
What am missing here? This is the 2018 model, which is identical to the 2019 model. The 2017 was the previous generation. Or are you addressing a market that is only now getting the updated model? Stumped.....
I'd be OK with bmw design choices if their vehicles held up. My 8 year old x5 needs a new ac evaporator for $3700 on top of multiple oil gasket leaks. I've owned Bmw's for 20 years but this will be my last. Abysmal durability.
It's true that Bmw isn't changing much in terms of design. But they are always one step ahead in terms of functionality. I think that Bmw doesn't change their style completely because of their incident/trauma in the past. Also Bmw is still making profit from their models, so they don't have the urge to (though it would be something new to experience :/)
I agree with you Zack. The problem with BMW is styling. They just dont know how to design cars like Audi and Benz. Someone should tell them that interior and exterior looks matter to customers.
Actually really like the interiors. M Sport is the only version of any of the regular models I'd have to go with, and honestly, the kit put on the car should be how the car looks from the jump.
The first vehicle was cheap looking and ugly
I own the 2017 x3 m sport I will not be buying this new model as they have made it look a bit “ grandpa “ for me softened up the looks I liked the 2017 model as it has an aggressive look sharp lines for a compact suv
All these things that are meant to be all new and wonderful in most brands of car/suv actually came from Volvo first especially drive features and safety, I have heard so many people say Volvos are boring. But all makes of vehicle have copied a lot from Volvo.
Completely agree with your views - BMW design has become really stale, and the last generation of X3 was nothing short of ugly! This new generation is not that bad looking from the outside, but the interior still looks ancient compared to the competition. But some people are still buying them. Whether it's stupidity or loyalty, I don't know.
Let me really clear you up on the actual price for base 2019 X3 when the dealer does it final paper calculation It’s going to cost you $73,000.00 +/- on the options. The $88,000 +/- for the M40i on the SUV options in Canada.
Porsche may evolve but the design was gorgeous to begin with. The X3 was NEVER a great looking car, in fact the 1st one was just plain dull. The new X3 almost looks dated right out the gate. I’ve moved to the newXC60 now.
A man after my own heart, when it comes to BMW. I just don't buy (literally or figuratively) the creep along styling, and the excuses they keep using to do it. While I think there should be distinguishing design factors involved for each company so that you "can tell" their products from others, generational differences should be readily apparent. That aside, I can't hate on BMW for the driving dynamics 😜😂... Good video! 👍
Thank you for your helpful reviews. How is the legroom for a 5' 11" height person sitting behind another person of the same height? I am not sure how tall you are to judge from the video.
It’s so much different. I don’t know what you are talking about, i hate all x3 before this one, i bought one for my wife and absolutely love it.
The new BMWs don't focus on looks, they focus on the way they drive, which isn't bad, cuz the new BMWs drive very good... and i realized this with the new X5
I will admit I am a bmw fan boy and I could tell all the changes, I kind of like where bmw is going with their cars the only problem I have noticed is that the 2019 GO5 X5 is the Kia taillights.
If you have a good basic design, evolution is better. For one thing, constant radical changes undermines brand identity and risks alienating previously satisfied buyers.
I think the X3 SUV looks more like the Q5 from Audi in terms of design and overall. Same will apply will the new generation of Audi Q7.
Happy they don't change dramatically like Lexus. It's why they remain one of the top. Audi is worse they make changes to the lights but not much on body.
Having shopped a glc for my mom I can tell you Mercedes trim is largely hard plastic and I’ve been a passenger in the new x3 and it’s the details that show how Mercedes tricks you with that large wood trim in front of the instrument panel and the rest of the car is low rent unless you pay for the higher trims.
I also wish BMW would take a bigger leap forward for their designs too... it’s so boring seeing the same designs over the last 15 years.
thats the point, I dont want my BMW looking like an Audi. BMW should keep doing what they are doing and look like BMWs!!!!
Wish I could like the BMW. Never been a fan of those or the Audi’s. I’m waiting for my RDX to get here. Now that’s a new car!!!
Hi. Can you tell me about the turbo in the engine? How good is it? How long will it last? How reliable is it? If turbo go out, how much to replace? Thanks
I'm fine with the styling. It's an SUV, how sexy can it get? What puts me off is BMW's price gouging. Last BMW I bought, I imported from the US, and BMW wanted $500 for a recall letter, stating there were no recalls outstanding. Up yours BMW, you've lost me as a long time 30 yr customer over your petty nickel and diming. I've switched brand loyalty to Mercedes for now. IMO, Mercedes is the new BMW, no longer the builder of stodgy old man cars.
Agree with Zack! BMWs are getting boring and same old styling. I’ve owned 4 new BMWs and I finally walked away.
looks so German, so Hitler :D, but i love it.
Audi has also taken the conservative route with the Q5. I don't think there's much real innovation in this class of vehicle.
BMW designer - easiest job in the world. Can lounge around for four years doing nothing, and then submit the old design to your boss.
You could go buy a comparably equipped 4 cylinder Porsche Macan for 10-15k more.....
I laugh when you said along the line of 'the X3 is the choice for compact utility'. It's clear that you luv your bavarian BMW.
Automobile certainly can't fit into everyone's taste, whether it is BMW or Porsche.
No mention of the Stelvio? Its a better drivers car and cheaper. X3 seems so boring.
2:08 "And we will talk about, whats good about it" Edit.. "Hows it drives".. 😁.. But! Great review as usual! 👌
Looks good and new to me! The best thing is the design holds up well over time. Unlike a Prius and the like.
I think that's Genius, because the interior hasn't changed much but they still have great sales annually.
Finally someone complained about the same looking dash seems like they been sporting the same dash since the 90s
great review, my thoughts exactly...bmw is "used to" be a class leader and game changer..
So glad to see you back, Zack. I don't really like the other guys.
I can clearly see the difference between the previous version and this one. Audi takes even less chances.
I like the older looking steering wheel with the fatter middle part and wish they put it in the X5.
Why would you want to change an already perfect interior. I hope they never redesign it.
Range Rover still the King of all Luxury SUVs even the Queen drives one
thats Xpensive! x3 is moving up to x5 price to fit their smaller x models
I have A BMW X3 a lot options
The exterior looks a little generic, it would get losses in a car park.
The last time BMW took a chance with their styling, they got Bangled.
Hate much? You should only review cars you like.
Hi Zack. Been watching you and Lacey forever on Driving Television. Great UA-cam videos please keep them coming. I own a 2014 X3 3.5i xdrive. I absolutely love it! I had a 2019 X3 with the 4 cylinder engine as a loaner while mine was being fixed. I REALLY REALLY liked it. 2018-2019 models are a step up, like you mention in your video. Little things they changed compared to previous version make a difference for sure, from what I found own one. Things I wish I had on my 2014 as well. I found the 4 cylinder under powered for sure, hopefully they start putting in the same motor as the 2019 3 series 4 cylinder. From what I hear, rumour wise there will be a jump up in hp and torque. Which is much needed. I do not like that 4 cylinder. I would consider buying the m40i or wait for the true M X3 when it comes out BUT I hate, I repeat I hate my BMW dealer. Out of the different brands I have owned, I have had the worst experience when it comes to their service department. 90% of the time they repair something wrong and I have to come back for the exact same thing again (oil change, brake fluid change, do half the work, don't clean up, loaner car not available as promised etc.......). I'm not asking for miracles or being a ridiculous customer over all the years. The upper management think they are gods, all their customers don't know anything about cars, don't care if you complain and they don't make any changes from customer feedback. They run the place like it is the 70's and there's no internet where customers are much more educated today. I will be moving on to a different brand next year for sure because of them. Sorry to rant on this post. Lol.
I had a 2015 X3 3.5xi and loved it as well. By the time when my lease was about to expire the new M40xi was not available and I went shopping around. So after testing SQ5, Macan and some other vehicles I decided to go with the MB GLC43 AMG. The GLC63 was not available at that time but was lucky to get a good deal on a fully loaded GLC43. This is my first AMG and hopefully not the last one. So if you have time go and check out the GLC AMG and try to compare it with the new X3. You might like it. Btw I am planing to do a test drive of the new X3 M when available.
We don’t care about driving experience .... we like design and features
I couldn't agree more. The interior control and instruments look dated but the quality is second to none. I love BMW but they really need to catch up on their gauges and instrument panel.
BMW just released ID7 for the X5 and 3 Series. Not impressed as they focused and fell short on the Virtual Cockpit in their attempts to copy Audi. I like this model and ID6 better with digital dials.
I do completely agree about the interior and exterior look dated, but comparing to the other SUVs in this class, this seemed to be the best choice.
To me, the pricing is just getting out of hand. Yes they keep adding more options - but at an extreme premium price!! $62k for just a few upgrades?!
wait for 3 to 4 years you will get it for half price.
q5 in 2019 will have 248 hp too , thats the ecology reason
The 5 series is even worse -- SO BLAND ON THE OUTSIDE. I like the understated looks, and it's a great car, but damn -- put a little effort into the exterior design.
They take that great concept from Rolls Royce which they own.
