Mannnn let me be😩 I’m only 8 episodes deep lol I’m sure by episode 100 I’ll pronounce every character name right😂
It's ok, names in general can be hard to pronounce tbh.
You are good bro. Just dont do it again lol jk.
Nah man it’s all good just imagine how many names you’ll have to remember if you get into the anime tho
Chris an anime I recommend you should watch is fullmetal alchemist brotherhood
Its ok but idk how you got Yusef from Ussop lmao
This is wild. I NEVER would have imagined you doing a review to this
Why
He jumping on the band wagon that's all 😂
Until now, buddy
I've never seen a review like that!
@@mayracordero382 Now you do
As One Piece fans, honestly im happy with this adaptation. Yes somethings could be better, some of the cgi could be improved and the pacing with Kuro's episode could have been faster. But honestly, it capture the spirit of the series but also does it's own thing with the changing of the plot. 8/10, can't wait to see how they do Alabasta.
I honestly thought the cgi was pretty great. I’ve never seen the “stretchy powers” done as good as that. It looked as realistic as it could be while still being super unrealistic lol.
I love luffy's legs getting longer in CGI
I'm glade oda helped with it now we need Akira to redem dragon ball we can hope
Yeah it will be really interesting to see how they do Crocodile and other Logia fruit eaters
I'm with you, Kuro dragged and the implementation of Zoro's backstory was clunky but that's the only weak episode for me. Show was way better than I ever could have imagined and the cast is incredible
As someone who's read the manga and watched the anime, I really loved this season. It felt like the writers, actors, and overall staff were One Piece fans. I believe this is the best case scenario of what a OP live action would become. I also enjoyed their creative liberties of the source material as there are characters, plot elements, and subtle Easter eggs taken from further parts of the story and instead incorporated them earlier than in the manga. Overall it looks promising and the teaser at the end of the final episode of a certain character has me excited for season 2 (hopefully it's renewed).
P.S. for Cris and anyone else interested. This covered the "East Blue Saga" so if you wanted to either read the manga or watch the anime where the next saga begins, I'd say start at chapter 95/96 or anime episode 61/62.
Dude no you're making him skip all Loguetown like this
@@gabrielecaruso2316exactly lol
A more realistic starting point is around ep 40
@@lalomedina350yup
We ended around 35/36 ish
or start from the beginning like a real One Piece fan would.
I didn't expect Netflix to pull through. Especially with a cast that gives us the Straw Hats that we remember and clearly the ones that Oda gave us that are now brought to life!
That's because Oda was working on this, not Netflix.
@@MikeyDLooffyHe was certainly heavily involved and that's a big reason as to why this worked.
I kinda did, since Matt owens talked with some one piece youtubers a few years ago and proved to everyone that he was an actual fan of the series
Actually oda disagreed with them in alot of creative decision … go look it up he picked some actors sure but all the lgbt parts is crazy … especially when zoro wants into captain morgans son room the man is naked like fully.
@@fabolousjada5070 What does Zoro walking in on Helmeppo naked have anything to do with LGBT? Please stfu.
I watched all 8 episodes and I loved it. They did a good job
One Piece is my second favorite animanga, and my fifth favorite piece of media ever. And honestly, as someone who’s pessimistic towards these live actions, I’m glad to say this one worked for me. The casting, the set pieces, a lot of it worked for me. Only a few story changes I wasn’t too fond of, but otherwise I think this was a really good adaptation 8/10 imo. I still think there’s better ones out there tho like Rurouni Kenshin.
I appreciated this review Chris it’s interesting to know the perspective of someone jumping into one piece through the live action.
Yeah the main issues with the Sanji and Usopp stuff is that there weren’t enough episodes (10 episodes would probably have worked better) and there’s too much focus on the marines. In the manga Sanji’s ride or die came from Luffy saving the Baratie and because he watched Zoro fight Mihawk. Usopp has more to do during the conflict with Kuro’s crew and we get a better sense of his character and skills. But these things were probably cut due to time and budget constraints because more fights are expensive and it’s probably cheaper to reuse your expensive sets with a B-plot of a second set of characters going through the same landmarks.
Tbh i don't get why people hated the syrup village arc, which at the anime i get why, and the live action, i really don't get why i mean yeah they pretty much took out ussop's big change of him standing up to kuro, but i still think they did somewhat a great ussop backstory, plus with how kuro is in the live action and how merry is instead portrayed as a way of naming the going merry just makes the going merry's death more valuable, and why yes i do think kuro and his theme song and waifu sham pretty much carried the arc i still love it, like kuro was actually scary instead of just being another goofy villain
After seeing your review and many others I was not hoping for a good anime adoption but after hearing you're review and many others I am so glad to be proven wrong.
One piece has a lot of name characters they even give some side characters get their own backstories . Not only that, the one piece world is huge not just focus on straw hats but also what’s going on around the world. The world building in one piece is phenomenal.
The reason Sanji had less motivation to join the crew is because they cut the villain of his arc . He didn't have his own story to work through and bond over. I thought this was the worst change they made. Overall I really enjoyed it, but that was an issue. Netflix added the East Blue ova which is good way to catch up on the anime cannon if you are pressed for time . Welcome to the crew!
it couldve worked if they changed focus with sanji being a witness to zoro vs mihawk like in the anime, because that became a big reason for sanji wanting to follow is dream when he saw zoro's dedication

🎶 Come aboard and bring along all your hopes and dreams! Together we will find everything that we're looking for! One Piece! 🎶
I had the biggest smile on my face when I heard it we are playing in the background as a part of an OST I got so happy
The Luffy actor killed that role, he was excellent.
I can’t understand why people don’t like this show because of it stays true to the source material(thanks a lot IGN 🙄)
Don’t listen to IGN. It’s biased. 😂 The show was excellent and the formula worked. That’s good enough for me. Things are going to get wilder, as required by the manga’s storytelling, but if production continues to accept the challenge without ‘putting their own spin’, it will get a lot better.
As for the strange manga angles etc., those are signature stretches that will actually help in the long run. 3C may find it awkward, but I personally think it’s what keeps the live action interesting. All the awkward moments/angles/close ups in one piece have a purpose in the long run.
iam assuming IGN gave it a negative review?
I would definitely like a dark gritty live action series of Yugioh. I loved that Anime when I was a kid and that would be so awesome to get one mixing it with horror elements!
I watched Yugioh as a kid!! That would be dope
You should read the original manga if you want dark and gritty before it was a card game it was basically playing poker games to the death look it up it actually isn't that bad and isn't long
The card game is just a parody of magic the gathering the original story is dark
@@3CFilms i love that they name dropped jimbe one of the warlords
@@jjohnson2445he was mentioned in the anime/manga at that point too.
Ussop and Sanji didnt get to much being the last members to join for the season but i do like the nod to ussop sniper eye sight by spotting the restaurants name while still in the fog before luffy could see the name
One Piece fans, we got him
So happy you enjoyed it man!!!!🏴☠️🦜
I watched the first two episodes, I honestly like it.
Can't wait to finish it. 🙂
Episode 20 to 30 is Baratie. Episode 31 to 45 is Arlong park. If you have time - I'd recommend checking out those two portions because they're fairly different than LA.
The arcs were all changed to varying degrees. Usopp's arc was changed the most, with both positive and negative consequences, the latter of which mainly showed in the form of his redeeming character traits getting practically no screen time. Sanji's arc was also changed. The most notable difference for as far Sanji's introduction goes is that the other chefs get more screen time, and his eventual leaving is a result of him overhearing that the others were hating on his food and mocking his abilities because they all wanted him to go with Luffy and join his dreams.
And Nami's arc lost a considerable amount of its impact because they pretty much changed the role of the villagers. Originally they were aware of what Nami was striving for, but never let her know that they knew so that, if things became too hard, Nami could walk away without feeling like she'd disappoint them. When Nami's treasure is taken, she initially intends to toughen it out, regather the money, and approach it more tactfully during her second go. However, the villagers do not want to see Nami hurt anymore and decide to march on Arlong Park, assuring their deaths in the eyes of Nami who knows exactly how weak humans are compared to the fishmen. This is where she breaks, and where the hat scene comes from. To Nami, those villagers are the treasure she's been protecting, and she's unable to stop them. Luffy entrusting her with his strawhat is a quid-pro-quo: you take care of my treasure for now, and I'll go take care of yours. The changes in the live action lessen the impact of that scene immensely.
There were definitely some scenes that were a bit awkward in live action, but I feel some scenes simply suffered because they cut out some of the parts that made the original storylines so strong in their need to fit everything into 8 episodes. All around though, I still enjoy it because the characters and world are very true to the spirit of One Piece, and what else could a fan possibly want, especially when it is also appealing to fresh new audiences?
Don't forget that they almost totally removed Don Krieg from the Sanji/Baratie arc. Don Krieg was supposed to be the main antagonist in Baratie, but in the LA he was relegated to a small gag scene with Mihawk.
@@JimJones-kj8jk True, but that didn't really hurt the arc that much as Sanji's major developmental points were all covered. They managed to give the audience a sneak-peek into the madness of the Grand Line early by doing that while simplifying the plot considerably, which is obviously what the live action needed given that there were only 8 episodes to work with in total. Krieg is a pretty inconsequential villain in the grand scheme of One Piece, with Arlong deserving more focus.
@@nbkw48
Eh... Debatable. They did some things better, some worse. I will say the anime has bad pacing (even though this part has the best pacing - it slows down after) and bad animation, so the live action probably offers a better watching experience over all, and the manga is a comic, so harder to compare in that regard. Also, a lot of the changes (but not all, a lot were clearly made for budget/time constraints for sure) were for the better imo.
That being said, I think the one story arc that's just clearly better in the anime is the Nami/Arlong one. If the live action version was as good as the anime or manga you wouldn't have people saying "I think my favorite backstory was [insert character here]". Nami's arc in the anime or manga is just clearly the best in the East Blue saga. I don't think there's anyone who's favorite arc in the East Blue isn't Arlong Park. Honestly, I would suggest at least watching that one arc in the anime if you're not gonna watch any of the others.
@@nbkw48 I agree as someone who caught up just they could lower the close up shots at s2
2:40 this guy gets it, I think a lot of people forget that One Piece is one of the pioneers for these kind of characters so I don't really understand when some ppl complain about how the characters are too typical.
Chris please do more anime reviews👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The “Luffy help me” moment was way emotional and better in the anime than in the live action show
I agree. I think that his complaint about the health center is kind of an L take
Even though I agree, I would still argue that it wasn't bad in live action, and I definitely disagree with the notion that the scene is cheezy in live action.
@@Katanapwnzall yeah so true
As a person who've never seen the original anime, this netflix series was a great full impression for me. It's goofiness and tone reminds me of another show on Netflix called "A series of unfortunate events." My favorite characters has to be buggy and Koby.
It feels very weird how Chris pronounces Usopp’s name but I really hope Netflix keeps up with each saga becoming a season for the show. Big things are coming for those who haven’t seen the anime so best of luck if ya’ll wanna either wait for the next season or just jump straight into the anime.
I’m learning sorry
@@3CFilmsit's alright lol. It's harmless, just kind of funny 😂
Usopp: The "U" at the beginning is pronounced the same way as the two oo's in food.
Chris I am so glad that you liked the adaption. Also if you want an amazing anime watch Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood! You won’t regret it!
I recommend watching the “ep of east blue” It’s basically a one piece abridged anime movie of same events from Netflix adaptation
I never expected you to review any form of anime so this got hyped when I saw this pop up! Thank you so much 🙏
You should definitely try to watch the whole anime series, each episode is 15 minutes minus intro, 4 episodes an hour, you can do it :)!
Fun fact: Dragon Ball Evolution was so bad it convinced Akira Toriyama (may he rest in peace) to make more Dragon Ball, which is where Dragon Ball Super came from.
I'm a big one piece fan and I enjoyed the live action a lot more than I expected to! It's definitely not perfect but it feels mostly accurate while also making changes for the different format and limited time (those 8 eps condensed 100 chapters / 61 eps of anime) I do understand how you feel though with Usopp and Sanji, I felt their motivations for joining the crew were def stronger in the anime/manga, but again there was a lot that had to be cut or adjusted (Syrup Village was def the biggest change) but it was still fun and I'm happy to hear opinions of people who haven't ever touched one piece before the live action. I love your chucky videos/reviews on horror movies and seeing you talk about one piece was nice to see :) I do hope you'll give the anime/manga a try. Thanks for the review!
One Piece live action was so good!! I was extremely excited for this and watched the anime a few weeks ago because of the Netflix adaptation, I'm on episode 70, and all I can say is im very excited for season 2. Buggy and Sanji were my favorites this season!!
As a fan of the anime, I’m really impressed what there were able to make work in live action. I also didn’t mind the addage of Koby and Garps relationship. It was really cool getting an in-depth look into something we didn’t see much of in the anime.
I’m so happy this review is a real thing, happy you enjoyed it! The story is beautiful and will only get better!
I'm so surprised but so glad you made a one piece live action review. If there is a season 2 please do updates on it. I'm a massive one piece anime fan chris. Also you said yuusup but his name would be pronounced like ooosop.
I personally don’t care that much for anime but I’m glad this live action adaptation is not a total dumpster fire. Thanks Chris for valid opinions.
8:25 You described Ussop perfectly. He does not fit in the crew. He lies and hides when dangers appears (in the Baratie scene he hides under a table). He is the weakest character in the crew and he knows it.
In the manga, his arc is completely different, everything happened in the coast of the island instead of the mansion. Ussop has a moment when he has to stop running away and defend Kaya. In Arlong Park happens the same as LA, he tries to run from the danger unitl he notices that he cannot run forever and has to stop the bull from its horns.
Those scenes are the first ones that Ussop shows his courage and believe in himself.
Well of course he doesn't fit in he's a God
As someone who really loves the anime I can say yeah this is pretty awesome. There’s a few small changes I can’t ignore including a pretty important fishman character being cut which will cause problems down the line it felt like I was watching One piece and I could tell the staff involved gave it their best effort. I can really appreciate that and definitely hope it gets a season 2
wow cris you surprised me with this review, i would never imagine you reviewing Netflix’s One Piece.
Ive been a fan of OP for nearly a decade. I hope this show gets so many more seasons. I love seeing what they do in live action.
And for god sake, Netflix, DON'T BUTCHER MY BOYS ACE, MARCO, OR JINBE. THOSE 3 ARE SACRED. THEY NEED GOOD ACTORS.
Wow, who would have thought...respect the source material, respect the fans, create a faithful adaptation, and we have a success! I'll watch this show now. Thanks 3C.
The problem for me that couldnt be helped is that there was more development for each of the characters to join to crew in the anime and felt more natural but of course it had to be rushed on such a short time restraint
So I just realized that for anyone with no familiarity with the manga and is curious about the source material without overtaking the live action series, season 1 covers the first 95 chapters aka the first 11 volumes.
If nothing else you’ll get a better sense for Usopp’s role and development and why Sanji is so ride or die for the crew.
Great Review! Really enjoyed this show! 👍
As a big One Piece fan, this adaptation was great! Finally we have a good live action anime adaptation. There were some changes I liked and changes I didn't like, but overall I enjoyed it.
Great review and video, didn't think you'd talk about this series but it's cool that you did!
As Someone Who's never seen One piece. But plan on watching the Live Action Series I'm really looking forward to watching it Now, Thanks For The review on it cause I never expected you would even talk about it ☺️
I'm the same never seen the Anime but I started to watch with my step son and we both love it.
I also enjoyed the show and did not watch the anime. From what I have seen from One piece fans they all accept the live action but they all are missing certain things from the show. To which I think they are just expecting too much in too little time
Love to see so many new people checking this out and enjoying it!
Im glad you watch the life action action one piece. I do agree its hard to get into one piece with over 1000 episodes definitely when your a youthuer whi reviews other things. Hopefully they keep the live action going.
They cut out key parts in Sanji and Ussop character that shows why they are so dedicated to the crew. Fans complained about that
Dude the scene where Nami accepts Luffy’s help is awesome.
The show is very enjoyable and like you I never heard of this but I really enjoyed the show and looking forward to season 2
Bro. Your reviews are so honest and so full of joy life and fun. I love your reviews and you as well man. Keep doing the good job. You deserve the success
Im so happy your reviewing this!!
Season One: I can honestly say that I'm pretty satisfied with the results. I was a little concerned when I learned that my all time favorite anime was going to get a live action series - even after I learned that Eiichiro Oda was working with the people working on this project, I was still skeptical. But after watching it, I can definitely see Oda's work while also trying out something a little different. I was pretty happy with the casting choice, as most of the actors did a fantastic job at portraying their respected characters - my favorites being the portrayal of Dracule Mihawk; despite his limited appearances in the anime and manga, he has always been one of my favorite characters (and I was more than happy to see him getting more screen time on this series). And while I did like Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, his portrayal at times came off as weak - I get that he was trying to capture the stern and seriousness of Zoro, but he doesn't really have the voice for it just yet, which is why I think he could have used just a bit more energy.
I get that there is only so much you can do with real people, and you have so much more room with animation, which is why plenty of stuff was cut out in the first season. But I really wish it had at least ten episodes, if it would have helped for us to see more of the characters we enjoyed - such as the battle between Luffy and Don Krieg. And while there were times when the choreography was obvious, most of the times it was done very well. And I don't object for diversity, just as long as it makes sense. I really do hope that Netflix keeps these people on their payroll, so they can continue bringing this amazing world to life.
Didn't think you'd even review this, but I might have to check it out after hearing what you said about it.
Now us Avatar The Last Airbender fans have to hope that Netflix doesn’t screw up that live action remake.
This is one of my favorite mangas and animes. I remember ordering Shonen Jump issues as a kid just to follow along. I am so happy that they prioritized honoring the source material over political cash grabs. With a limited season they couldn’t do every single chapter but they strung it all together well with the amount of episodes they have. It was so good! This is how you do a live action adaptation!
Didnt expect this to get a review on this channel... But im glad you did!
Not a fan of one piece anime more of a DBZ fan myself but this was 🔥🚫🧢
I’ve been a One Piece fan for so long since I’ve first started reading the manga back in Middle School in the late 2000s. Then I started watching the anime in high school. I’m still reading the manga and watching the anime at the same time now I’m 30. After watching the live-action adaptation on Netflix on the premiere date, I was amazed as the entire Season 1 showing exceeded my expectations greatly! 🥰😃🥰 I was flabbergasted!
I gotta give lots of props and appreciate to the entire cast and crew for making the best live-action adaptation of a manga and anime series I’ve ever seen! Lots of respect! R.E.S.P.E.C.T., RESPECT 🫡👏🤩✨on the audience, the source material and even Oda-Sensei! I’m so proud that he was one of the executive producers of the show! No wonder this show is so damn good! Congratulations to everyone who worked so hard on creating the series to life in imperfectly beautiful and well-crafted form in live-action! 🙌😍💯 I’m looking forward to rewatching the entire season again! And I hope they make Season 2!
I'm loving this show a good bit. So much that I went and bought a One Piece funko pop 4 pack (on sale at GameStop) lol
As a LONG TIME one piece fan, is say the live action did a great job of conveying the heart of the show, while some lines were a little cringe and I agree that some things sound weird in live action, to me it adds to the overall aesthetic of the show. I had a few criticisms but overall, I loved it, cried like 20 times lol
they took like 50(30mins eps each) so lets say 25eps for a HR into 8eps. So you are right about the worthy-ness to join is weak but i guess some had to be cut short.
The "of course i will" is a bit of a language barrier thing that works in the manga, but difficult to translate to LA especially since it's in english. To put it simply it goes like:
"You know nothing jon snow"
- yes, i don't
"I told you to fk off"
- yes, you did
"Still wanna help me?"
- ur goddamn right
I'm most happy that they hit all of the important story beats of 44 anime episodes (or 95 manga chapters) within the 8 episodes of the live action, even with the additional Marine story content. The loss of some of the ridiculous fights and side characters is unfortunate but completely understandable. I'm looking forward to seeing this series continue.
I’m a HUGE One Piece fan and I’m thrilled with this adaptation. The cast and crew really love the source material and the creator had a great hand in it all. I agree that the Nami strawhat scent was handled strangely knowing that I sobbed when it came up in manga/anime and I could nitpick other things too but overall it’s a wonderful series and is doing it’s best to stay faithful to the source material while making it it’s own thing.
💙💀💙
I know I enjoyed it too. I feel everyone did a great job. I really hope we get a season 2 and get Chopper and Robin.
As a recent fan of the anime I liked the live action adaption. The casting was pretty solid and I thought it was a fun pirate adventure. It was just a little hard to watch at some points because of some of the things they had to change or leave out. The Usopp and Sanji character lines probably felt a little rushed and out of place because a lot was left out and changed from the anime story arcs of these 2 characters. Not to mention that there were lots of other characters that were completely omitted and that we never see in the live action version. For example, you never see the Usopp Pirates in the live action. They are young kids that follow Usopp as if he were their captain. It's a touching story arc that really adds depth to the character as well as another arc with a full ship load of Black Cat pirates that were under Captain Kuro's command. Usopp's reluctant heroics and willing to sacrifice during this much grander fight and battle sequence is what truly solidified the bonds between him and the other straw hats. I realize that things must be changed and omitted for the sake of flow and run time, but seeing your reaction Chris, makes me realize just how important some of these elements were in getting across the true essence and depth of some of the characters. There were things that you mention in your review that you felt were out of place or didn't seem to work. I think a lot of these were much better in the anime because of the build up and emotional investment that you get between the characters that you just don't have in the live action.
as a Fan of OnePiece, glad you like it. I was hoping this live action brings new people as fan, as is working, now my family is fan now
My son has told me about the over 1000 episodes of One Piece but the Netflix 8 episodes for season 1 of One Piexe was great and I really enjoyed the characters building as they were great, the story, and the series. Want to see Season 2 now.
The thing with sanji is the show cut a giant fight that led to him being inspired by luffy and the crew
0:07, You are not the only one here.
I never saw the OG One Piece TV Show, either.
It was actually really fun and I loved the cast!
The one that stood out the most was definitely Monkey D Luffy or Sanji.
I feel like Pixar or a studio like that would make a a great Dragon Ball adaption; light, kid friendly, and colorful. Kid Goku merch would be 🔥
Been a One Piece fan for 14 years now, and I’ll say over all I’m okay with the live action. It’s a bit… grittier then the anime, but the underlining feeling is mostly the same. I also understand why Usopp and Sanji joining the crew would feel rushed in the live action. Usopp’s ark (Syrup village) is completely different in the manga, and it’s the ark in the show that actually disappointed me. He feels kind of sidelined in the manor(not as sidelined as Merry, though XD). Not only does he have less to do, but with out the huge crew about to slaughter town folk to make a distraction for Kuro to give Usopp more to fight for it just fell kinda flat for me. With Sanji, I think it’s because of how little time we see him talk to Luffy and just how basic his fight with Zeff was to get him to leave. It’s just not as powerful of a push as the entire Baratie hating on him to get him to leave. Glad you enjoyed the live action, though. It was good enough for a season two I think, so here’s to hoping.
Could never get into the anime just due to the eyes and some ways they did things, adaptation is pretty gorgeous. Made me cry a couple times, love the score and feel they could've leaned onto it more. Blown away by the sets and designs, Sanji's story was incredible - as was his mentor's. Really loved so much about it, coming off the heels of the Full Metal stuff it is world's apart. (Probably the only person alive to enjoy the Death Note adaptation.)
I enjoyed deathnote mind you I’ve only seen the live action
@@edwinvillalobos7159 Oh my! Well the anime is pretty short, DEFINITELY worth your time someday! It's so so so so interesting, the film adaptation is certainly nowhere as good - but still great in my opinion! Netflix One Piece is a new bar all together though, phew.
In billion years I never thought between all youtuber I never thought you would do this review
Surprised but happy you watched this, I watched some as a kid, but I loved this first season of the live action.
Bro! I'm a very huge One Piece fan and I agree with all your criticisms of the live action. Good video brother
In the dubbed anime when he throws his hands up he yells "he's gonna pay". That would've been better here as to "of course I will"
Also, Ussop will do more. Be patient. He's starts off as a coward mostly.
My main point so far:
1. The actor who played Sanji has natural acting. The other actors played great but they clearly looks like they "have to or act like" to portray the characters.
2. Kaya have the best acting for non-main character.
3. I'll put some blame on the acting director (not the "main director" but the special director for acting, idk what they're called). Some scenes looks like the actors are playing in theater due to weird positioning or even the shot they're taking. Or maybe this was the camera director problem, idk.
4. We had too little focus on Usopp.
5. Luffy's fighting choreographer COULD DO BETTER.
6. I believe the BGM is the best thing abot this LA. If the show got 6.5-7/10 from me then the BGM got 9/10.
For now that's it.
Hell no little luffy is very bad bad shanks is the worst … and luffy is the only good character zoro is good but not great … only guillermo del toro can pull stuff like that off
Never in my life did I imagine my favorite UA-camr would cover an adaptation of my favorite anime
That "Of course I will" dialogue from Luffy to Nami is actually a very iconic frame in the Manga so they probably would've got a lot of backlash if they had changed it.
You could say they DID change the original scene. The original one said "Of course!!!" or something. This one said: "Of course I will... Of course I will... Of course I will!!"
@@apoptosisduellinks109 I not sure about the anime but in the manga the dialogue was same -"of course I will" only difference is that Luffy said it only once, not 3 times.
Nah man that Nami and Luffy help me scene was perfect. The actors were great. Imo it worked in live action just like in the anime.
This whole review I couldn't help humming the opening credits song of the anime when it first started coming on Toonami 😙 🎶
I’m a major OP fan and I agree with pretty much everything you said. The majority of the positive qualities of the show are carried over from the anime, and the majority of negatives are a symptom of trying to translate it to live action. Massive respect to the love and effort that went into making this happen, but if you’re really into the story, look up One Pace, it’s a fan edit of the original anime that streamlines the narrative to make it more easily consumable.
Ooouuuwie! You gotta do more Anime Reviews, Chris! Im also one of the anime fans that havent dived into One Piece. I watched the first 50 episodes, but it hasnt really grabbed me enough for me to dive into it. I mean, theyre almost at 1100 episodes! People have done the math, it would take 17 days straight of watching without sleep to completely finish the show. But with that said, i actually loved the live action adaption! The only character i didnt really enjoy was Usopp and thats because they didnt really dive into his development. He isnt just the sharpshooter of the group, he's the spirit of adventure and wants to live up to his father and become a brave warrior of the sea. But even in his own introduction arc, he felt like a background character and it didnt really explain him that well.
But i loved the acting, the castings were great! Zoro really nailed the stoic, tough guy aura from the anime. I was worried about his character mostly, but they did him justice! The 3 sword style really worked amazingly well for live action. How he used the swords in unconventional ways to block and attack, it just made for a really captivating experience.
The way Sanji joins the crew is actually handled better in the manga/anime
In the case of Usopp, no spoilers but him not feeling “worthy” was intentional
PS: Zoro not using 3 swords after a certain point was adapted straight from the manga/anime
I’m a little surprised you didn’t like the scene with Nami and Luffy it’s my favorite moment and they performed very beautifully I was in tears how they pulled that off so well.
Sanji's horny gag is SUPER annoying, but his journey to deciding to join the crew is much better in the manga/anime. Same with usopp - he's more annoying, but his redeeming qualities are shown off much better in the other versions.
Overall though, they did a good job. There's even a few things that are honestly better than the original, because they have the benefit of hindsight on the 1000+ chapter series. It's nice to see all the positivity around it, and it's interesting to see how the fans and the newcomers critiques align and differ. It seems like the newcomer critiques are, surprisingly, mostly similar to longtime fan's, even without the context of the source material!
I had no problem with the gag tbh cause otherwise he would be too perfect
I really enjoyed the show and how they handled it. I've nly bern a One Piece for around 4 years, but the OPLA discord has become the #1 place I am on the vast internet. Keeping up with the production and talking about my favourite piece of media with others has really helped me with my social anxiety and other mental health issues in general. I feel like most of the changes they made enhanced the story (such as Arlong being introduced during Baratie and Krieg not being said arcs primary antagonist). The casting was truly spectacular, and while not perfect, the One Live action made me laugh, cry, and feel a part of this grandiose adventure, all of which are core parts of why i love this story so much. To me, the cringyness of this adaptation works because one piece itself is a goofy tale of laughter even during the serious moments, this is a story where a man can hold a sword in his mouth or a girrafe can become a ferfect cube as valid fighting techniques, and i dont want that to ever change. Most of my family won't sit down and watch the anime or read the manga, but I'll be able to enjoy the greatest story I've ever read with my family, which thinking about just makes me smile. Overall, I'd give this series around an 8.5/10, it definitely has room for improvement, but they've built the foundations for even greater season in the future and have made a path for this epic to reach and inspire even more people than it already has, and for that I'm grateful. -🪥
I wrote this at 2 am and am half asleep, so if there's stuff that doesn't make sense, I apologize
The craziest thing about this live action adaptation is that the characters actually *feel* like their anime counterparts
And it doesn't feel too "weird" i mean luffy always screaming at the top of his lungs is how luffy always is and with how inaki is, I'm very happy
No for luffy, he seems too self aware
@@thelivingactor but that's kinda luffy's trait, being aware and being both someone who can read a person, and read the surroundings easily, like he's just dumb but he knows what's happening like in dressrosa where he only saw some warriors injured and got told some stories but somehow immediately figured out that the toys are actually humans trapped
@@lightningjadejavier maybe it's just me I can't feel him as luffy at all I liked all other characters but him, luffy is always self unaware, does what he wants, this inaki's luffy portrayal doesn't seem to portray such character he seems too friendly non charismatic or a serial killer with a ulterior motive and the dialogue delivery n acting🤦♂️not what I expected
@@thelivingactor bro it's definitely you cause what yoo just explained inaki is, that's literally what luffy is, he's stupid and most of the time can almost kill himself, but he can read people like they're a book, that's what makes luffy, LUFFY. Also you saying that luffy does whatever he wants he literally does that, like he does whatever tf he does in the show aswell, also inaki being "too friendly" or a crazy with a kuro ah plan, bro obviously they weren't gonna get a 1:1 luffy where he's actually an idiot like this show is supposed to be somewhat a realistic show with their personality i mean zoro literally murders people in this version! Like luffy would be 17 in this time so meaning inaki's luffy would be a 17 year old idiot but not as anime luffy cause that version of him is a child, and you saying that he seems like he has an ulterior motive... AIN'T THAT THE ENTIRE THING ABOUT ONE PIECE!? like he's plan is becoming pirate king, heill there's even some speculations that becoming pirate king is just a step forward to his big final plan that he's been planning since he was a child
As happy as I am you liked the show, the words "I didn't care for" and Sanji don't belong in the same sentence, hes one of the best Straw Hats
The cast was great loved the music and the production designs
Really liking all your fair criticism for the show. I'm a casual fan of One Piece and I give this live-action season 1 a 7.5/10.
Finally a great live action adaptation 🎊🎉🥳. Also have you seen the trailer for Godzilla minus one?
I first watched One Piece back when it was on 4kids (bad times). When they put it on Toonami in 2008 with the Funimation dub, it was so much better. It didn't sound and look like an American cartoon anymore. I watched it all the way up to Chopper, thats when Toonami stopped airing it. I didn't start watching again until 2011 when my friend showed me the timeskip episode. I was more into Naruto and Bleach but I watched all the episodes and it was worth it. This anime is so much fun and the world building is amazing. The manga is so good. My little brother got into One Piece last year and its been a good time rewatching it again (not so much for Skypiea).
As for the live action, I like it but I wasn't pleased with the Colby and Garp scenes. I get that they did it to establish why Colby and Garp have a relationship but it took away too much from Usopp. That time could've been used for his arc instead of including Colby and Helmeppo in it. But my biggest gripe was where was the Moonwalker?! Lol I didn't like the Nami and Zoro thing they were doing, that was wrong.
As for Sanji, I was fine with Baratie, but to have Arlong show up there was out of place if that makes sense. Making Z eat his own foot was hardcore instead of losing it underwater trying to save Sanji. One question I kept asking myself was where the hell was Hachi in Arlong Park?
Long story short, I liked it and didn't like some parts. When we get "Miss Sunday" in season 2, I'm going to be in heaven lol please let them do her justice. Loved the Jimbe shout out and Smoker post credit scene. Logtown here we come.
