I'm really hoping that the devs someday would add more armor, weapons, equipment. Or anything just to make the factions feel more unique, as it's really needed. Sure, it will solidify players to their chosen faction of choice but to those who don't care and just have a mash of armor and weapons, It'll be flexible. Anyway is it just me or did the update messed up something. Playing as a sturgian warmaiden. The guy I had my eye on to marry somehow randomly got married to another at the other side of the map. All in the early game, I don't know the numbers but that random generated bs ticks me off. The first wars didn't even start and the player hasn't established their stuff yet.

I was skeptical at the beginning about splitting shields into two groups but you made a good case for it. I go for the knight shields for companions to keep them alive. I personally forgo the shield for more ammo.
I just figured, given the number of shields in the game, and the fact that not everyone wants to run a giant shield all the time, that it would make sense to split them into categories.
I don't really use shields once i get to the late game stage. Once i have good enough armor, i just rely on it, and use a two handed weapon, that way i can either have two quivers of arrows/bolts, or three stacks of throwing weapons.
I always like the small circular shields for cavalry, and the kite shields if i am being a knight. But recently, i have been forgoing shields entirely and equipping more ammo and a 2H weapon.
My favourite shield is the oval decorated shield especially as an empire faction but for me it’s most commonly found in aserai settlements for some reason so is the wicker shield
Have you thought about the Pavise skill (in Crossbow line) which blocks 75% of projectile damage when you have a shield on your back. I've been told that it works only with Pavise-type shields. If that's the case and any other shield on the back is somehow useless (is it really?) then it would make Pavise shield even better. Though is it even the only one which carries such identifier in the files? If for example 2 weight Tall Heater would have it, then it would be better than 7 weight pavise if armor weight/run speed matters. Overall shields have quite plentiful hp, so as cav I just run with (Lordly) Light Cavalry Kite Shield. Since you won't get that many hits because you aren't stuck in melee against multiple faster opponents.

They need better ways to get lordly and fine versions of your own faction gear.

That's fair. i also am a fan of the small circular shields for cavalry. Makes me feel quite eastern. I'll pair it with a saber or scimitar.

I have never tested to see if the skill only applied to the Pavise. I always just assumed that it would be applicable to any shield on your back.

Found "Thick Tall heater Shield" - 580 hit points (540 normal one), not much better than default. Is "Thick" only positive trait on shields?
Shields have 2 positive traits (Thick and Lordly) and 2 negative traits (cracked and battered). Lordly is the best.
It is quite nice to find thick or lordly shields.
