You aren't lying. A huge piece of mine just left 2 weeks ago and it's insanely tough.
In that case.
I’ve lost 3 pieces of my soul already.
True, you could try to explain the pain, but the words haven't been invented yet.
But with each Dog that comes along they try their darndest to return that piece.
The price of a good dog is heartbreak in the end
While quite true to a degree, remember that such a good friend as ones good dog wouldn't want its owner to dwell on what was lost and focus more on what good was gained through true friendship and what time you had.
Everyone who has had a dog, knows how much this hits.
Sitting in the parking lot of the vets now. My best friend of 14 years in the back seat and just found this song. I have listened to it 10 times in a row. Somehow it's comforting. This is the hardest decision I have ever had to make. :(

Just had to do it today 14 year old red heeler he was fit and healthy cancer paralyzed him in 4 months he fought so hard to walk paralyzed but had to let him go to heaven he was an absolute fighter

A part of me died when my old girl passed away in my arms. We adopted her from the pound at age 13.5 where some bastard dumped her just at the start of Covid. We gave her more love over the following two years than she had her whole life. She loved us with every creaky bone, cloudy eye and wobbly tooth. With a smile on her face, she made herself get up every morning for a walk because she knew my boys needed to get out of the house while in lockdown. She kissed their tears and slept in their beds like a guardian angel. For 2 years she saved us every day. She truly saved us.
I have a similar story adopted my girl in 2018 from the shelter. Many times she has tried to run off and 7x I have found her everytime. I sit here writing this as she lays next to be dieing from cancer and have an appointment to easy her pain Monday. I’m having a really hard time letting her go.

I lost my Beauty today, my sweet old 12-year-old pup 10 days ago. She was the sweetest Dog you'd ever meet. I still remember when I was little and my Dad, me, and brothers went to pick her up. She was a rescue dog and was loved dearly by my family and me. I'm only 20, she is my fourth dog to pass, but she is my first dog to pass peacefully from old age. I was lying next to her earlier playing songs like this and crying. She'd lay her head by me to try to comfort me. Man, I hope God takes dogs home to Heaven!

Man big dogs don’t usually live very long I’m turning 30 this October, Friday is bears last day with me. I saved him from a family who left him out a week straight in winter as a tiny pup, with frozen water. All week I told my buddy I’m gonna save that dog(my dad kept tellin me no) but Friday came and bear was still outside, my heart couldn’t take it anymore. I snatched him and took him home. This April(approx birthdate) he turned 17. Every turn my life has taken that boy has been right there. After girl left, friends left, for college moved away for work, passed on, kids being born, me getting married. In a way Helped all but one my kids learn to walk. And for his sake we gotta put him down, his hips are finally going out, and hard for him to control things. I wish there was something I could do…..feels like part of my heart is leaving with him.
Just read this now and feel for you. Im 29 and had to be around for my familys 2 dogs being put down...and damn does it hurt. I hope youre doing okay considering whats going on....and hey, hes still with you.

Dylan I am so sorry for your loss. A piece of your heart definitely went with him!!! And I know how you feel. Same thing happened with my old 15 year old girl back in April, and I made the heart wrenching decision to put her down. I contacted a doggy hospice company and a vet came out to my home and put her down while she laid in my lap. I got to hold her and love her and she was calm and safe. And even though it’s been a couple of months, the grief still comes in waves..... I pray for your healing!!!

My best friend of 13 years passed on 2 months ago and it still hurts like hell. Got him at 3 months old, ppl can say i saved him, but he saved me time and time again.
My little Jack Russell just passed at almost 18 years old.
I was 20 when she came into my life as a tiny pup im now 38.
Basically all my adult life and near half of my life was spent with her.
Im not sure what its going to be like not seeing her. She was my first child and loved me unconditionally.

It is a beautiful song, it makes me miss my beagles Felix and Nova (twin llitter mates) so much. I miss staring into their golden brown eyes with a mutual love you could feel. I don't know if I could ever own another dog after having that bond with those two. They made a long day at work disappear as soon as I hit the front porch. But Like any good country song, a woman threw my stuff out and kept my dogs and left me with my truck! This song is amazing

I just found this song today and a cried a little in school because it made me think about my dog cash that got called home at the beginning of Covid in the first summer of Covid he would be wrapped up in the blankets my mom and dad would bring home for the hospital I was in when I was in the nick u and when I came home for good no body could hold be with out him being right there and when my dad gave that person the ok to hold me he would not let me out of his sight.

I lost my boy 4 years ago in May, the pain hasn't gone away. Everytime I see his ashes box I break down, I wasn't prepared to lose him. He saved my life and stopped me from hurting myself he showed me unconditional love and I know I'll miss and love him forever. Apollo came into my life when I needed him the most and I know he is waiting and watching me on the other side
Lost my sweet Eskie Kaiya of 15yrs 11 months a couple of weeks ago. Can't get enough of these wonderful songs to help with the hurt and sadness left behind. We always seem to take these awesome pups for granted when we have them, like they are never going to leave, then realize how even more they meant to us when they pass. I loved my sweet "daddy's girl". I hurt bad but know she is in a better place waiting for the day we hold eachother, play and go for walks again. Love ya Kaiya......

Thank you for this song. I just put my best friend of 16 years to sleep today. I had him from a pup , a few years before I even had kids. At least I have a lot of land and was able to bring him home and place him in a nice spot we can visit. He’s going to be missed greatly. We let our other 2 dogs say goodbye when we brought him home. It helps to know other people feel as deeply sad as I do about losing a dog. I feel silly sometimes being devastated by losing "just a dog" but I do. It consumes me daily and it's hard to move on when your dog was your best friend and spent just about every moment of his life following me around, watching me work on things, begging for scraps when I am eating, and wanting to play or just get pet. The fact someone spent the time to write and perform a song about losing a dog is cathartic, and seeing other people feeling like I do in the comments helps me feel more at ease with my loss and that I am not crazy or was just overly attached.
The pain we feel is the flip side of all the good memories and all the love we experienced. If it hurts deeply, it means we loved deeply.

This song hits home! We had 2 jack Russell’s, we rescued them n they were 5n 7. I found out 5 years ago I had breast cancer. Those 2 little dogs stayed by side through surgery, chemo n radiation. When they told me I was in remission the oldest passed away.Two years ago my other passed away. I don’t know what I would of done if it had not of been for 2 sweet dog! My Bassett hound Jack I bought him from my son for Christmas and somehow I became best friends with him and I have never had a more loyal friend in my life. I learned a lot from Jack today. He did a surgery to remove an obstruction out of his stomach thank GOD everything went well. Dogs are truly man’s best friend. He taught me unconditional, love, patience and how to be a better person overall, whoever is reading this blessing. Make sure to enjoy the time you have while you can. I never felt heartbreak like my Rusty dog passing in 2020. I still cry about him sometimes. I adopted a chow mix i named Buck a few months later to keep him from being put down (and lets be honest, to ease the pain). As buck lays between my legs snoring, i listen to this song knowing one day he'll break my heart all over again. But man, were they both worth the pain from start to finish. Id never trade a second with these boys to avoid that hurt. Rest in Peace to our irreplaceable four legged best friends. ❤

“13 years of good memories” and up pops a pic of a yellow lab. Just lost my 13 year old yellow lab 2 days ago and the pain is is indescribable. He was a damn good dog and I will not be the same without him. Labs (and dogs generally) show unconditional love and compassion for their family. I hope my dogs meet me at the bridge when it’s my time and we cross together.

I lost three doggies in the past five years, and I have just one left, a really smart Border Collie; he's just turned 12; I'm getting too old to get a new dog; I don't want him outliving me; I'd be afraid of what might happen if I went. Well , Jameson this song now means a lot to me now more than ever! Hits hard I woke up this morning and found my black lab “Angel” had passed away over night ! My heart is deeply sad and broken ! Now I have loss 2 special dogs Johnny and now Angel. She has and will always have a special place in my heart ❤️. She was my sweetheart! The tears won’t stop rolling . All out there do me a favor if any of you have a special pet hug them and love them for you never know when the moment will come when you may lose one of them! Sorry for your loss, but soooooo true. We need to appreciate every time we have them. Most of them don't survive us. Had a big huug with my 4 years old golden/german sheppard mix. I work in the veterinary field, so I face animal's death almost every day.. We NEED to appreciate each moment with them so we dont have any regrets and good memories when they passed away. Sorry for my english, not my first language.
