It seems all that SCHP wants is prior military. If you're just regular Old John Q Citizen, you might as well forget it. I know certified officers who have been passed up for former military.
I was involved in rear end collision in SC. The trooper was quite helpful, courteous and professional. Additionally, he was empathetic and concerned with everyone’s well being. He was there literally a minute after the collision. We were pleased he was there

Run as fast as you can away from this organization! Worked with the HP in the early 2000s, and it was pure hell. There standards are very low now, because they can't find people to join. Poor supervisors who still have the Millitary mindset. Felt like I was still in the military.
Hopefully I get the call. It will be the first good call in a long time.

So proud. Now that I am older I wish I would have followed in my families footsteps and went into LEO, or to SLED. Unfortunately I chose to get into trouble as a young teen that blew ever having a chance for that line of work. I had to settle for Corporate Accounting.

Recently got out of the marine corps after 6 years of active duty. I’ve been thinking a lot about being a state trooper. I just don’t know if I would make a career out of it since it’s something that’s been on my mind about doing like a bucket list. But I have other main goals as well.
Same boat, it’s something I’d love to do bc I think I’d enjoy it but I have other main goals in life that I’m not sure if this would assist much in. This would be a fun job, get to do different things everyday and make a difference in people’s lives. Just feels like I would take a break from the path to my goals for a couple years if I were to do this
I'm with you. This is something I'm really considering doing too. I've got other goals, but I'm thinking about doing this as well.
Do a ride a long and see how you like it you can ask the troopers questions to see if it’s a good career fit
South Carolina requires the use of body cameras in its police departments; however, the state leaves it up to the discretion of law enforcement whether or not the footage is released.
Law enforcement used to be a career path. Now it's a disgusting job that has been tarnished by thousands of police officers that have violated rights and broken the law. There's a genuine reason that Giglio and Brady lists have existed since the 1960's.

Young women and men, please do not join law enforcement. Our current society has no respect for police. It's a danger job, you have to put up with constant abuse from a society that's in meltdown. Please don't do that to yourself. Life is way too short. Pick a more respected and less dangerous career.
