As a 90s kid I vividly remember practically everyone above the age of 5 hated Barney. No one I knew thought anything of it. What does disturb me is people actually sending death threats to the actor who played him... I always feel bad for the guy who played Barney but now for a different reason.
Can't believe people would go that far as sending death threats and more. People must have such a significant mental issue because they don't have the same type of love back when they hear the song so all they can think about is blame the person singing it to make themself feel better. Barney is not stupid, the song is not stupid, the show is not stupid. What is stupid is those mean people.
I was actually born in the early 2000s, but Barney was still on TV when I was little - I absolutely loved it and had no idea that any hate was going on during the time of it's showing, it's sad that people do such crazy things like this to something so innocent and kind-hearted....I miss Barney and to this day I still cry to the "I love you, you love me" song...We miss you Barney🤍🤍🤍
What's really rediculous is that, there is literally NO REASON for people to behave this way toward him. He wasn't teaching kids about hate, he was teaching kids about what love and inclusion looks like. wouldn't you want kids to know what those things look like?
thats true, and honestly yes. sadly with kids being on computers and such(alot of kids have smart devices). they would already know what it is simply by searching it. even more so is the fact barney is cringe to the current generation of kids and people
I was beaten at home, beaten and bullied at school, surrounded by alcoholics and drug addicts, gang wars, AIDS, the streets were dangerous, school was dangerous, home was dangerous, even getting a hug was dangerous, television and movies were glorifying the situation, and gratuitous violence was in vogue. Most everyone I knew was in a similar situation or worse, and at least one kid I knew was being raised by an actual paedophile and we were afraid of even going near his house. You have to understand what this happy dappy carefree Barney world of hugs and love and affection looked like to us. Imagine the North Korean government running a program on All-You-Can-Eat buffets on national TV and you can kind of get the sense of it. I remember distinctly the feeling that it was *mocking* us all. Of course I'm not saying it was right to hate or harass or threaten the actors, and I never liked those kill Barney songs, but you do really need to understand the Zeitgeist of the nineties to understand where much of the hate and casual talk of violence at the time was coming from. People look at it now with rose-tinted glasses, but it was also miserably violent for children.

All the actor did was voice a stupid character. Doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with him as a person, just means he voiced a character that happened to be stupid. Nothing less, nothing more.
@@DeadAccount33 Too many weird and crazy people nowadays having this obssesion with hunting down the purple dinosaure that doesn't exsist. The voice actor was just doing his job HIS JOB and he dosent deserve the hate and death treats he is getting becasue he voiced the character. Some people just lump the purple dinosaur and the voice actor as being one in the same ( when they shouldn't ) people who do like doen't know how to seperate fiction from reality, imagine watching a show where the actor plays the role as a villain that is hated in the show ( becasue the villain did some horrendous crimes on the show) does that mean people should start hating on the actor who plays the role in the show then. If they don't like the purple dinosaur then fine ( some people just hate positive stuff because it's to cringe for them to handle ), there is no need to reach to the point where they start hunting down the voice actor who was DOING HIS JOB TO MAKE A LIVING who played the role in real life.
Imagine having such a pathetic life that you waste time sending death threats to a beloved kids character. You have to be a messed up person that NO ONE ever wants to spend time with. I love Barney and I watched it growing up, it brings pleasant childhood memories. We need more of Barney's positivity and compassion in this world.
Am 34 years old and he was a big part of my childhood when I was little. Glad to be from a generation that wasn't as immature as today's generational society. 90s we're the simple and peaceful life, unlike today we're we constantly live in dark and immature times.
I will admit. I'm 35 Years Old and still have my Barney doll sitting in my room. It kind of collects dust with all my other childhood toys in my room but it always serves as a reminder to not take life so seriously and that life back in the 90s felt so innocent and pure.
I remember when I was a little kid at my babysitter’s house, I had to watch a lot of Barney stuff because my baby cousin loved it so much. I didn’t really mind watching it. I never had any problems with that show. If she wanted to watch Barney, that’s what we all watched. whatever made her happy, that’s what we did.
I met Bob West at Comic Con a few years ago. He is such a sweet guy who cares about people who grew-up watching Barney. So why would anyone send him death threats?!?!?!
He seems really nice, I hate Barney, but come on… he’s a fictional character no one should care too much about… The guy seems nice, so who cares if he voiced him!
I grew up watching Barney… Barney brings back so much nostalgic memories of my childhood… As an ESL student, Barney and all other programs on PBS, provided me comfort and solace🙂
I was born in 1997 I grew up watching Teletubbies, dragon tales, magic school bus, reading rainbow, PBS channel, kids wb, and Barney the nostalgia and happy memories. These shows taught me about how to be compassionate and loving towards others and the importance of reading and sharing with each other.❤ But growing up in this generation when I got in middle school and then from there on to high school and graduating what we were taught we’re non-existent… I miss that 💯❤️ But you have to be the laziest evilest person in this universe to hate barney
In my defense, I didn’t have the luxury of consistently having cable for most of elementary. As a result, I had no choice BUT to watch PBS kids, 1 Saturday morning (Recess😊), and Fox Kids. I didn’t get consistent cable until around 5th grade.
Barney was the dinoSAUR for the ages. I don’t understand how people find hate on such a positive image. Mr. Rogers and Barney were the moral compass for kids and some adults.
imagine being an adult… being THAT miserable and showing that much hate towards a show that technically isn’t even meant for you…. ridiculous. Barney stands for nothing except love. people wanted him to stand for nothing but negativity and it’s sad.
It’s important to remember that anyone who is so much of a loser that they threaten a fictional character is unlikely to have the drive to do anything.
My 15 old only watched Barney as a baby and when he started prekindergarten his teacher told me he was the smartest, most caring, polite little boy she had in her class. He knew all his ABCs, knew how to count, his colors, how to share, say please and thank you. My son had a collection of all the Barney shows. My grandmother that also baby sat him also told me how calm and loving he was and how bell behaved a child he was. That made me so proud hearing great things about my child. We have Barney to thank! We loved Barney in our home!❤❤❤❤❤
I was born in 1990 and 2 when the show begin and I love Barney because the show filled my heart it taught us to always be good and helping friends. It hurts seeing some people hating the show and not understanding and not showing Respect.
Back when I was little, I found Barney rather creepy that I barely watched clips of the show yet my mom kept buying us barney merchandise and plushies. Now that I accept who Barney is, but it's just so irrational to hate over some fictional character who is just wants to teach children how to be better people in the future.
it's beyond messed up how there's people out there ACTUALLY sending death threats to the guy who's the voice actor for barney. hopefully the people who did send those death threats to him get held accountable for what they did, because that is NOT okay and they shouldn't have done that. smh
My childhood was shaped by Barney since I watched him so many times during my childhood. But suddenly, I got exposed by my uncle at my tender age about Anti-Barney humour, particularly the altered lyrics of "I Love You" which I also sung at shared it to my friends a decade ago. But many years later, I realised my mistake and blame my uncle for it. And despite knowing that altered lyrics of "I Love You" that didn't stopped me from being a Barney fan and treasuring what this show did in shaping my childhood and nurturing my inner child up to this day, though I'm an adult now.
I grew up watching Barney on VHS tapes when I was a kid. Nothing impacted me to hate of other people see differently. Even now I still see the imagination.
I remember watching this show when I was kid. It was shown in Malaysia too. I just have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that someone was sending death threats to Barney and his actor..
Exactly like what happened with Scrappy-Doo…He had always been my favorite childhood hero and the creators made him rip my heart out by writing him into a character that wanted to kill all of humanity, including his fans…so I became Mickey in real life through Disney…and typed up a story to save him, and sent it to him on Cameo…He made me a video and made my review #1 to show he’s with me on this…I did it…I brought him back to us…
To be honest, I never liked Barney the Dinosaur as a kid and I still don't like Barney the Dinosaur as an adult. However, never in a million years such a thought came across my mind about sending threats or even wanting to kill the purple Dinosaur. Like good lord these people have way too much FREE time on their hands! They need to do something with their lives and stop hating on the voice actor and the man sweating bricks under that big ass purple dinosaur custom. No way hell they get paid enough to deal with these hating people smh.
Barney was with me throughout my entire childhood. I knew every song by heart. But for my older cousins, it was torture cuz every time they're in the car with me, they're stuck to hearing me sing "I love you" like a broken record player.
Barney was always my inspiration back when I was a young child and helped me grow to be a loving and caring person to others until I became a semi-teen. Seeing the footage of Barney dolls being destroyed and tortured is something I take a great offense to, plus the original voice of Barney receiving death threats is really shocking.
Same here, I’m a 90s girl and grew up on the original series. Now seeing this video at age 32, is quite upsetting! I STILL have a huge collection of various Barney collectables including an ORIGINAL plush AND SEVERAL episodes on VHS stored in a sealed cardboard box in my bedroom closet!

It's not all THAT bad though. There was this once case where a bed-ridden paralytic patient was accidentally forced to watch "Barney" on television as he laid on his hospital bed. He hated the show so much, it actually motivated his nerves into regaining his mobility, thereby freeing him from his paralysis
I am sorry, I envisioned a man who was paralyzed one day, and then rampaging around the hospital like a lunatic the next……… Plus very confused doctors and nurses chasing after him.
I was born in 89’ and I was Barney obsessed!! I had all the stuffed animals and VHS tapes. Even recorded episodes from the TV onto tapes. I had all the songs memorized. I can’t imagine or believe the character received that much hate. Even the actor. So ridiculous!

As a 90s kid, I was not only aware of Barney, but also the backlash surrounding him. People made fun of Barney for being a big purple doofus that did things like teaching overly simplistic, overly positive messages to kids, acting annoyingly saccharine, and plagiarizing songs (the melody for "I Love You" was taken from the children's song "This Old Man"). He has been parodied on shows like Animaniacs and radio skits and other sorts of media. I understood the appeal for hating on Barney and where that would come from, but man, death threats against the voice actor is just taking things WAAAAAAAAAAAY too far.
Barney also appeared twice on the original MTV run of Beavis and Butthead and "Weird Al" Yankovic's parody of "MacArthur Park" called "Jurassic Park" had a line in there that said "I'm afraid that they will harm me 'cause they sure don't act like Barney." In the music video for that parody, Barney appears during that line while also getting his head bitten off by another member of his species (Tyrannosaurus Rex)
@@marissawolff8491 You forgot to mention that later on in that music video, Barney's head gets hocked up by a T-Rex who was getting the Heimlich maneuver done on him by another dinosaur.

My favorite episode was the Christmas special and I still have great memories watching that episode and all the other episodes. As a guy who just reached his twenties, I find it hard to hate Barney and I never will hate Barney. I couldn’t imagine myself hating or wanting to kill a dinosaur who helped to teach me life lessons to help prepare me for entering teenhood and adulthood💯💯💯

Aww Barney we love you 🙌🙏❤️ this was one of the few shows that taught true friendship values, compassion, love in it's purest form, imagination and creativity and so much more. I felt like it shaped my moral values throughout my childhood and prepared me for my future adulthood. Thank you to the creators for such an unforgettable everlasting childhood experience. P.S. I'm not gonna lie, I started jamming out once I heard this classic tune play, reminded me of the time when I met Barney and took pictures with him as a child at a community event. Such sweet precious memories. 🎶💃💕🌻🙏

I’m a teen and I still love Barney, I remember watching him and was so happy.
I always loved Barney AND I still do,That kind and caring soul dosent deserve all that scary turmoil
