    Came for the KSR; pleasantly surprised to hear a Friedman Naked.

    Fantastic video Anthony..... I use overdrive and boost pedals basically the same way... set the amp for tone and pedal for flavor

      totally agree. I know lots of people who will set up the amp in a different way and then use the boost to bring it back to where they want, but if you turn the boost off it doesn't sound good. To me a boost pedal should be like a 3rd channel so to speak.

    That KSR pedal! I might have to lean towards this. Thanks!

      It was by far the most drastic of the pedals with the low cut capabilites. I am looking forward into digging into this pedal more.

      @@itsanthonybest The low cut was too much for me.

    Favorite boost is still the Friedman Buxom.

    Steel string was a bit harsh on the highs. Same with the mxr. I have to say i was very curious as I wondered if my precision drive was all it was cracked up to be, and yes. I preferred it to the rest

      Some of that high end obviously can be pulled out. I set the steel string up in the same way I would use it to get a john mayer style clean tone out of an amp on the clean channel. Was super curious how it would effect the Naked as an "always on" kind of pedal. It worked pretty well, but pulling back the filter / tone knob would pull some of those upper mids out for sure.

    Sugar Drive and TS7 were the best. That Revv pedal was my least favorite.
    No joke though, the Tone Lock series by Ibanez was great. I've owned a few of them and they're better than 90% of the boutique pedals out these days.

      You simply cannot beat the TS7 on value here... I have had fancy TS9 and other pedals, but the TS7 does this the job for CHEAP!

    It's hard to tell difference since it seems you have the volume much louder for some like the precision drive.

    What do you think of the KSR Eros? Curious because I got mine a few weeks ago and I’m fairly disappointed by what seems to be it cutting out too much gain & low end naturally. Obviously dialing in gain, level, and lows negates this, but it seems to be much less aggressive than say the precision drive or Dire Wolf to my ears (I have the Eros and Direwolf).

    • @itsanthonybest

      I like mine as an option for the same reason you DONT like it. using the tight setting it cuts out a metric ton of low end. However i don't find that sound to be over organic. I still prefer the Highwind Direwolf out of all of the pedals in this video.

      Out of all my overdrives, the Eros sounds the most clinical. It's super dry... But some people might be looking for that. It coils also be that it doesn't go well with my rig.
      On the Direwolf.. I'm still waiting since November.

      @@itsanthonybest The dire wolf cut out lot of mids, no? I like some thick mids and for that reason, I like the Revv G2, best here. I like a more tube screamer style pedal like the Revv 2 or a JHS Bonsai.

    • @Bognerman14

      @@itsanthonybest I like a really organic pedal, hence not the Eros.
      Try the JHS Bonsai.
      The Revv G2 was a surprise to me. I like the added fat mids over the Dire Wolf.

  • @Bognerman14
    @Bognerman14 3 роки тому

    What did you think of the Revv G2? Sounds fat! I'm curious if the Revv G2 works well as both a TS style boost and standalone amp in a box? :=)
    On the KSR, I didn't like the tight mode and curious if you tried the fat and thick modes with the gain up to at least 11-12:00. Thanks bro.

    Hey, I noticed you had the Eros set to sound rather anemic. Looks like you had the gain at about 10:00. The gain is not a true gain control. While it adds a small amount of dirt, it mostly controls the impact of the EQ. So for example, you want the gain to be at least half way or at noon. This way it is allowing the EQ to have a greater impact over the tone and shaping of the sound. Below noon, and it gets very dry and anemic, almost like nothing is on. That's why it sounded so weak in this demo.
    In all honestly, each of these pedals can be set to sound almost identical. There is a lot of hype in the pedal world. Turn that gain to at least noon or 12:00 on the Eros, and it will let the pedal and EQ section do what it is meant to do, and will sound so much better.

    A Friedman Naked! I'm curious about that amp. Do you think it's a good amp for thrash metal? Also, how is the clean channel? It's like the clean on the BE100?

    • @itsanthonybest
      @itsanthonybest  4 роки тому

      The amp is really unique its not as compressed as anything else in the friedman line. The gain is very clear even with lower tunings. Its not overly forgiving in that way. The clean channel is "fine", its the simple clean that is in other amps, but if i were going to use the clean in this amp i would use a pedal compressor or something like the vertex steel string to add some flavor.
