Asking Greg Pop how he managed to make Diaw shoot more in 2014 he said "He is trying more shots this season, we always asked him to do so but he just didn't want to. I think it is a psychological thing. He told me he went to some Buddhist monks in Tibet in the off season. I hope they told him to shoot too, maybe that helped."
It’s crazy because Diaw was known for sometimes being too passive but when he was on like he was in 2014, he’s one of the most difficult players to contain. 2014 was his magnum opus. He set the tone for other players like Draymond.
"Boris walks into the gym one day wearing flip-flops and holding his customary cappuccino, which was a staple for him every morning," former Suns assistant general manager David Griffin recalled. "It was during pre-draft workouts, so he sees the Vertec (machine) and asks what it is. We tell him it measures your vertical leap by determining how many of the bars you can touch. He asks what's the highest anyone has ever gone, and we tell him Amar'e (Stoudemire) cleared the entire rack. Boris puts down the cappuccino, takes off his flip-flops, and clears the entire rack on the first try. Then he calmly puts his flip-flops back on, picks up his cappuccino, and walks away, saying, 'That was not difficult.'"
Glad you talked about him. As a french, I have so much good memories watching him playing basketball. he's quite the symbol of what was the "french school" of basketball in the 2000's thant put fundamentals and teamplay above individual performance. TP was a good mix of the american and the french basketball culture for instance. Boris was sometimes criticized in France as well by the coach of national team who wanted him to score more... ofc he didn't bother and he did his own great things.
One thing you maybe not know, he stopped his international career with France at 247 selections, you kwow why ? Because he didn't want to overtake his mom's number of selections, 247....Class Act !!!
As president of the club JSA bordeaux in France, he hired himself as a player during the 2011 lockout. He was interviewed about this by French media and said: "Negotiations were harsh. The player asked for loads of money. But the president said "it's gonna be the minimum end of story." "
And now, he just came back on court to play with friends (most of them old pros) for a low tier team to make of his child dream comes true: win the Coupe des Landes (regional cup). A legend
He was like Draymond before Draymond... A do it all small forward/PF/C I'll be glad to see him on any team. He's like Manu too in some way.. like play what he does best and let him do his thingy.
an unusual player indeed... He played strangely well in the NBA. But I will always remember him by mediocre (by his standards) play for France and those 9 consecutive missed free throws against Slovenia
Casey, you should do a Bio on yourself of from 13 to Now of how came to do his channel, becoming a Family Man, and from "I Don't Care of Life Jock to a Let Get to Business Type of Guy!" This will be so cool if you did this because since you so close to 100k, the Finale of your What Happened Series, and You are a Very Personally Guy to your UA-cam Community or General, I always like that about you, you are Ones of My Favorite UA-camers!
I thought I was going to hate this because I loathe clickbait headlines, but this one is spot on. The only thing missing was a cameo from Jonathan Goldsmith. If they ever bring back “The Most Interesting Man in the World,” campaign, Boris Diaw has got to be the guy to bring git back.
He was the Captain in another "romantic life"...... Captain Suave' Bolla..... a great friend...... now him showing YOU beauty I believe is his forte'.... hense the behind the back pass and gorgeous photography..... I worked within the JAZZ organization.... they knew of my great appreciation of the Captain...they kept us apart.... I hope one day to shake his hand....for the most excellent job of being himself....he can bring Manu, Tony, and Timmy as well.....Thank you BORIS!
I don't think you can blame a player for not wanting to score. Taking too many shots is an easily solved habit, but the opposite is not true. Just like Ben Simmons today, Boris Diaw didn't fit the role teams wanted him to embrace. I think it is more the team being selfish for asking a player to do something he's not comfirtable doing than the player being selfish for refusing to play under those conditions. It has to be immensely stressful to have teammates, staff and media trying to change your game all the time.
Somebody in his draft class was telling stories of the rookie combine where Boris Diaw literally comes in wearing a suit wasn't supposed to participate because of the timing of his arrival but he did and just blows away all the scouts.
and now he is playing the world championship of Landes :) check it my friend it's.a super interesting story. With his childhood friend they never won the Landes's cup which is very popular here in south west of france. They build a team of 40s player and they are going to winning it
I think Draemmond could learn a lot more from watching his game, both positive and negative. I see a lot of similarities in their approach, with Drae being more aggressive and outspoken compared to Diaw wanting to cling to the shadows.... He was perfect but too late for the Spurs. I loved watching him and in 2k playing with the spurs meant I had ball movement on lock. Great video guys... also side note: Happy your hair's almost all the way back Casey.
@@chaike9001 I think you could do a bit more with your time than be a grammar nazi, but I guess you got the point of what I was trying to say, since that's the part trolls usually miss. The meat and potatoes of it all is.... I'll let you stew on that for a bit.
What’s happening to the Mavericks? I mean I understand the jazz are a really hot team right now, but I mean like this Mav’s team is not what it used to be. What’s the deal??
i think Boris was just horrible against bad coaches.... Silas, Woodson, Iso heavy coach, no system, no high BBIQ, i mean, that could be very hard, to work for someone less intelligent, less capable, with less knowledge of the game... and be asked to play the exact opposite of what you think basketball should be...i have the ultimate respect for a guy like that, could say it selfish (and in a way it is) but also if you watch it closely, you'll see a lot of teams are influenced by teams where Boris was on...( suns and spurs) and copy there style of play...he helps shift a heavy iso basket ball to a team heavy one for the jazz, the spurs, the warriors, etc...stubborn, but for the good cause i would say

One of the most underrated passers in the history of the game. He’d be perfect if he play for the Warriors
I agree he had an Elgin Baylor type of game
Him and Shawn Marion were my favorite players from the SEVERELY underrated category.

He's a genuinely nice person as well..i was a busser at a coffee shop and he helped me out by picking up some plates.
He's a big human being too
He would be perfect for today’s nba!!

I'm french and he is my favorite player ever, either in NBA or national team.
That '14 spurs team was wild a perfect role player indeed for em

Should have been MVP of the finals in 2014 instead of Kawhi, those two guys really made the team bigger during this finals
Can you find out what the hell happened to Steve Francis...?
He could’ve played a couple of more NBA seasons but he still had a long career, made some money, and is enjoying his life.

Ome of my fav players actually 😅 not becoz I'm fat too but I'm more of a passing big and played defense
You're a legend for even aknowledging BaBac!
Seen a number of Boris' interviews. He doesn't need to be in the NBA to be happy and secure, but he can still play serious ball.
Kyle Anderson is the Boris Diaw of today

I realized that Diaw is mostly disgruntled in losing teams, but fits meetly with deep playoff teams. Guess the winning teams know how to use him!
He just wan tonight the Landes's cup in Mont de Marsan :)
He was just afraid during the game, he just couldn’t shoot with serenity
Casey The Goat
I liked boris when he played for the jazz 😀
Casey: Boris diaw signed with tony parker's spurs
Me:bruh, it has been tim duncan's team since david robinson was gone and maybe even before that

Literally 800 ppl till 100k :)))
I miss Boris, the Spurs could really use a PF
Derozan is there power forward and sometimes keldon johnson
Yeah, but it’s not their true position, and the backup is Trey f***** Lyles
Boris true position was point forward/pass first combo guard.
Next week 100k fo sho
Hmmm? Boris Diaw? Ah the lebron stopper, during heat vs spurs era. And yup he was able to contain lbj. I'm a LBJ fan.
If he got to the Spurs earlier, then they could have won more chips. They got him a little too weight.
