If you are finding a job and reading this, please do exactly what this guy said, I did the same thing and found a job that I like and pays well almost immediately. This video is pure gold, I can’t thank him enough.
Another great video, thanks! This is the main reason I've been doing so many personal projects this last year. Every experienced engineer I've talked to has emphasized the importance of past projects - especially if you have little or no work experience.
I really wished that I knew about this before I took my majors back in my undergrad. Instead of finishing the projects assigned by my professors with the mindset of wanting to get it out of the way, I could've taken a different approach in completing those projects so that they are "portfolio-worthy".
I am satisfied that I discovered this channel, the insightful commentary on engineering is beneficial, listening to other amateur and professional engineers helps provide a solid understanding. My Grandpa is my only family member in the engineering field, and I could only receive so much insight from him, since he worked for the government as a Civil Engineer most of his life and is now retired.
My professor said the exact same thing. He doesn't like reading resumes, he wants to see our projects. His class requires us to have a digital portfolio site with our projects
Since this was so long ago, idk if you'll reply but I really hope you do lol. What was the website that you were required to use? I'm trying to make a digital portfolio asap for an application but I have no idea what site to use.
Wanted to say I spent the last day using your template to update my portfolio both on a website and in pdf with different info for different types of resumes. I'm super pleased with the way it turned out and can't wait to share it with companies. THANK YOU for taking the time to walk us through the steps and add serious value.
I haven’t start my portfolio yet but I really love how you make it. The way of how deliver what you did is minimalistic and precise. I definitely will adapt this. Thanks for sharing! I’m fresh EE btw
I hire mechanical engineering co-ops from Waterloo. I won't say that this video is giving bad advice, it IS mostly good, I DO want to see your projects and this style is OVERALL good. However, when near EVERY SINGLE RESUME I LOOK AT (90%+) has this guy's exact same portfolio template (down to layout, font, colour scheme and all), it says to me that all you can do is copy the work of someone else and you are content in having no personality; its overall incredibly off-putting. For those students listening to this guy, PLEASE put your own spin on it. Show me that you have an ounce of creativity in your body. The best engineers are those that can meld creativity with technical know-how. Prove to me you have that and you are better than a photo-copier. Use this as a baseline, but just... be yourself as well. Don't just be Tamer Shaheen.
I wish I could do a portfolio as I generally don't know how to describe things I have worked on, but I work on proprietary information and have a clearance for my job. I also don't have very many personal projects currently.
I am going through the same thing, I have worked(participated) on projects and I feel I don't know how to describe them or neither did I have good pictures for my portfolio too. So have you been able to figure it out and how did you go about it please?
For the projects, does it have to be 100% original or can you include projects you've done just simply following UA-cam videos that people have already designed and made?
Awesome video, and super happy to see it coming from someone who shares some of my career interest. I'm also interested in electric vehicles and battery technology, however, I don't really take a lot of pictures, I have a bad habit of just getting things done and not documenting it because I don't want to be on social media and I don't want to be the guy always taking pictures. So what would you say to someone who doesn't have a lot of pictures, but does have research experience that they would like to share? Should I still create a portfolio? I just don't think I'll have the pictures to back it up.
Hi Mate, your video is very helpful for me to develop my mechanical engineering portfolio. I am unable to download the template but doesn’t matter I developed one in word.
Hi, I’ve watched almost all your videos but you’ve never gave us a close look at petroleum engineering program. I’m a freshman at college and I’m planning on majoring in PE , can you please share some of your knowledge in the field? Do you recommend it? Is it hard? What is it mainly about? And you know , you’re normal engineering programs analysis. That would be much appreciated! Thank you.
Im in my undergrad and had a research paper published in the journal of engineering materials and manufacture. Wondering if should I include it in my portfolio ?? Please let me know what you think
Yea whenever I get hungry, I go eat. So, usually every 4 to 5 hours. Also, I would have my water bottle next time so I don't need to leave my desk to get a drink.
Thanks for the vid. I’m a rising fourth year electrical engineering student and I really want add a portfolio to stand out for full time positions. I did a lot of cool projects during my coursework, some of which I created websites, videos or official papers for. How could I best implement those in the portfolio? Make a portfolio website with links to the videos, etc?
How do you showcase your projects from work when you sign NDA's with these companies? A lot of my skills come from work related designs but I have no way of (legally)sharing them.
You really shouldn't. This stopped me from trying the same thing as even my internships and senior design work was under NDA. You can describe it but you probably dont want pictures or models. Edit: read the NDA, dont take my describing it as legal advice
Hi Tamer, thank you for this video and template! When you mentioned combining your portfolio and resume you didn’t include a cover letter. Do you recommend a cover letter with your application? Thank you!
thanks for your descriptions, it's really useful but i want to ask you to speak slowly because some one like me are not native English speaker and its make that hard to understand.🙏
What do you think about a Google drive document for a portfolio. I think it's the most versatile way to share work because it hast eh ability to add all kinds of photos, files and other documents with ease. Should I also add my past projects to it that don't necessarily reflect my mechanical engineering skills like a diy chess set, a forest watchtower, a diy viking shield?
Amazing video. I was going to ask if it’s possible to share projects worked on at work but you cleared my doubts at the end of the video. Another question is, what motivated to switch from a multinational like Tesla to a startup? I’ve seen some other people do that and I’ve been wondering why.
Hey Tamer, I noticed the tip you said at the end about including the theoretical knowledge, but how would you include that in a portfolio? Is that something you can put at the end? Or on your resume?
Hi tamer, im in high school and it would help me a lot to know what math classes you took in high school or something relating to your time in high school before pursuing mechanical engineering.
Can I add my own personal projects to the portfolio? And with those I mean hobby projects I pursued on my own just out of interest and without business application (There was no economical intention behind those, just curiosity).
How did you get company approval to post pics on your portfolio and show on websites? I’m trying to see what I’m allowed to show from my projects at internships.
What if I haven't done enough projects or maybe even have evidence of doing them to make a portfolio? Is there any way I can like find projects to do online and use their results in my portfolio?
question in regards to the sub heading under your name. are you a current student at the university or have you just put that there as that's the university you attended? i am no longer a student but wasn't sure if I should still put my university name on there. cheers
What if they ask for additional documents do I attach my portfolio there or still keep it to my resume. And what if additional documents options is not there, does attaching portfolio make to the resume goes through the ats software and to the recruiter?
Hi Tamer. I am a mechanical design engineer myself. Please help me with portfolio creation. If the interviewer asks should my portfolio me 1 page or a booklet (if i have several works to showcase)?
I have always wanted to create a portfolio with pictures and a summary for the part/product like you said. My biggest hindrance is that the projects I am involved in are NPI with NDA. How would you bypass that?
I think he said in a past video that for some exams he was allowed to bring a cheat sheet with formulas and other exams where he couldn’t bring anything. I think some of his exams did give formulas.
As a third year mech engineering student, yes but rarely. For instance, you're not expected to memorize 100+ diffrential equations in heat transfer, you're supposed to understand them, know when and how to use them, and be practical with them thus a formula sheet is provided. But other subjects like dynamics or mechanics of materials, you're supposed to memorize all equations as they give you a sense and basis of how materials and objects move/fail.
Hi, Tamer, do you know engineers from the CIS countries, it is known that other state standards are used in these countries, in your opinion, is work experience suitable when moving, is there a chance to find a job? I'm sorry for my english, I don't have much experience in communication
I am applying for masters in Mechanical Engineering and in that we require to submit CV or resume. So I was wondering, will it be good idea to attach portfolio in my resume while applying to stand out. Can anyone help me with this.
Hello is it possible to let us know about extra courses that we can learn on the side like autocad and solidworks or is it sufficient if we just learn them from UA-cam and thank you so much for these videos really helpful for us
best way to lear how to model is to actually do some real projects. go on upwork, get a job and start working. or just think some new product on your own
If you are finding a job and reading this, please do exactly what this guy said, I did the same thing and found a job that I like and pays well almost immediately. This video is pure gold, I can’t thank him enough.
I read this exact comment and followed everything through, got my favourite co-op! I'll always have my portfolio moving forward.
Another great video, thanks! This is the main reason I've been doing so many personal projects this last year. Every experienced engineer I've talked to has emphasized the importance of past projects - especially if you have little or no work experience.

For sure. It took me a while, but I finally got to it :)

well, he's a professor not an employer but he isn't wrong tho
@@Missirene09 I can design a digital portfolio website for you tho.
Thankyou❤ . I landed a design engineer job due to this portfolio template.
The amount of interviews i got with your portfolio tips is a blessing. Thank you, i appreciate your content. Happy Holidays!

so did you get any jobs?
no universities or other videos that I have seen explain it this well great job on the video
Appreciate that
This was gold. Applying to an internship that’s asking for a project portfolio and had no idea what that was. Love and blessings to you brother.
I was confused as recent graduate engineer .thank you so so much your videos helped me
This was really insightful! Thank you so much for this video. I've really noted down major hints and I'm off to begin implementing!
I haven’t start my portfolio yet but I really love how you make it. The way of how deliver what you did is minimalistic and precise. I definitely will adapt this. Thanks for sharing! I’m fresh EE btw
Great video!!
I’m studying Solidworks course in this semester... I will be more interested in it !
same! it seems sm fun
So helpful! Your mom is proud.
Im looking for a year long internship, so im gonna try and use the portfolio alongside my resume. Hopefully I can get more interviews!!
That's pretty cool, mate. Thank you for sharing
The most organized video ever!

thanks man for these videos

satisfying video
Im in my undergrad and had a research paper published in the journal of engineering materials and manufacture. Wondering if should I include it in my portfolio ?? Please let me know what you think
For me absolutely
Yea I think it's def worth a mention. It also depends on the types of roles you're applying to.
This is the integrated part of getting accepted in any company that should be taught in schools.
Great video. Btw bro what do you used to eat or drink during long study sessions like 8 to 10 hours of study. What kept you awake and running.
Yea whenever I get hungry, I go eat. So, usually every 4 to 5 hours. Also, I would have my water bottle next time so I don't need to leave my desk to get a drink.

Depends on the country you're in.

One trick would be to take photos from your companies websites because those are public domain. Same with Patents once filed
Can you make a video of things we need to have for engineering( what kind of laptop and everything)?
Hi Tamer, thank you for this video and template! When you mentioned combining your portfolio and resume you didn’t include a cover letter. Do you recommend a cover letter with your application? Thank you!

in which software it is made?
is it worth to learn catia or solidwrks??
Will creating a portfolio help me get into university?
hmm I don't think so, but working on projects and talking about them on your university applications will def help.
Tamer, you are an inspiration my friend 🔥 also you’re kinda cute no homo
LMAOO thanks bro
I have made over 10 personal projects in solidworks but I haven't built them in real, so I don't know the real world results.
What should I do?
I have the same problem
press shift + delete button when you select "Projects" folder
Can I include my college projects in my portfolio ?
Why not?
