- In this episode we dive into the basis of metal work by working the surface first then applying our body filler. With the help of the Ultra Ding Massager and the Dead Blow Hammer, we were able to get the metal straight enough for some very light bondo work! The steps in this video will guide you to better understanding how the dents are repaired in the auto body field!

Hey Brian- Thanks for your videos brother!
I just gave you a shout out/reference/citation on my auto repair channel.
Always a great day when Brian uploads a video. The kit shown is really interesting. Cant wait for the next one!
Man..you truly have the gift of teaching, besides being a true professional. Amazing channel. Greetings from Europe.
Thank you for those words!
The 2k spray can after finishing put it in the freezer it will last a lot longer before going hard great job.
thank you. amazing video lm from lraq and l intreaste with your Channel and really get beneifet
l want they acrílico block info plis
Today I started my first job. Been watching your tutorials. So far so good! Enjoy your videos and teachings 🙌
This guy...you make me think I can do anything! To be honest watching your video gave me confidence to do a rattle can job on my fender and I'm proud of it even if I did get the wrong clear coat. Question is how do you approach painting this repair? Do you need to strip the whole door or can you just repaint the part you've repaired? Because of your videos I'm going to attempt a dent repair where the paints already gone but I just dont know how a patch paint job would work
To be able to completely hide the fix you would want to do the entire panel otherwise because of wear and tear on the old paint it will just k8nd of stick out where the patch is
Green Stage is an excellent piece of knowledge for the toolbox..appreciate you sharing that
Shorts?
I'm one of those people that's sweating and too hot when it's over 75 or so, and today I'm wearing a wool blend long sleeve undershirt under my shirts (notice the "s" after shirt), and a pair of sweat pants under my pants, 2 pairs of socks and a hoodie and I'm not even outside...
Hey Brian. Another amazing video. I love the fact you've kept this banger civic series alive and that you've given this old banger quite literally a whole new lease of life. I really like this video because when I come to paint my car, I have a few minor dents I want to take out. A few questions:
1. If one does not have the time to use the dent pulling tools, would just sanding to bare medal and filling be sufficient? Ie using more filler than if you pulled the dents?
2. Can I use something like upol reface or slick sand in place of the traditional body fillers - ie after sanding to bare metal, loading my primer gun up with polyester filler and relevant hardener and hitting the panel with it, then sanding down?
Thank you.
The idea is to use as little filler as possible, as you never know how the filler material will shrink or grow when the temperature changes versus the base metal, or how well it will stick to the metal. Pulling most of the dent out means the small, thin amount of filler is able to move with the metal without cracking or delaminating. More work on the metal now means less chance of your paint failing in that area. %99 of painting is prep. Also, the thinner your paint coat, the better. Layers of polyester underneath should be avoided, or minimized.
Another fantastic video with great explanations! You keep hitting them out of the park!
Decent tutorial. Up until the bondo part. No need to sand down bare metal. 120 and a single coat of glaze. And all the hard lines were undercut. Sry it’s hard watching it and not be able to fix the problem through a screen.
I follows your steps with the exception of 2k primer I used SEM high build aerosol primer not a 2K.
I feathered the edges and it feels smooth to the touch with no hard edges. But after I sprayed primer I can still see the body filler showing through the high build primer after 2 coats. What went wrong?
You have to use guide coat and sand it with 320/400
I've been doing collision repair for a couple years now and have been wanting to dabble in some projects at home. I'm using your videos to learn the prep/painting steps to the repair work. So far they're very helpful!
At about 18:00 before you shot primer you had a pin hole in the filler. Did you glaze it or did you try to bury it with primer?
This is all so similar to high end wood finishing, yet so different! So cool to watch an expert and see how y'all do automotive finishes.
Man! THANK YOU for this video. I have been sanding down my 1971 Super Beetle getting rid of all the clear coat and just started researching how to fix small door dents like these. Been stumped trying to figure out etch vs epoxy in my application when most of the car is already covered with two layers of primer/paint (Original and ‘90 recolor). Knew I needed to do a filler and guide on the stripped areas.
keep this series going with a series of cars if you can, we learn a lot
Man! Look at that fan on that 2K primer!
Great video, thanks for sharing. I save any food grade boxes such as cereal boxes or frozen pizza boxes and cut up into large squares for mixing the filler on. The outside of food grade packaging is coated in a thin plastic film so the filler and hardener don't soak in.
It's important to know that glue won't stick to a sanded surface. It has to be glossy (clean)
I wish I was that Honda. I want to be touched deftly, massaged and smoothened. Then I could finally ride eternal, shiny and chrome. Got enough junk in the trunk for it.

Dang shopping cart dents... be more respectful/ careful around other people's cars...
I did my bodywork this way and the owner of shop fired me he said I using tomuch expensive materials self edging primer and my body filler supposed to cover all around the paint what should I do now?
Just slid into my sisters car today in my truck and dented the extended door in like 6 inches. 99 F150 Extended Cab XLT, Any Ideas for something that big?
Try hitting it with a wall, then wetting it in a lake.
Brian i notice you used etching primer over the filler I have done that and the filler lifted i did some research and they say you cant put filler over etching primer Now my filler was Bondo maybe that's the reason or i put the etching down first not sure why but mine lifted any advise on what went wrong thanks Dean
Exelente work Braian
Great video as always 👍. Question i have my hood and fenders that need repainted. The paint is peeling where you see the bare metal. How should i go about the process ?
Also I need a guide and steps to laying the paint, do I have to sand it down to metal? Can’t I just put touch up paint and then clear coat?
Bought an auction car, and some idiot used paint touch up and just brushed it on, it looks bad.
Anyone else sees a dog at around 17:17 or so?
Yes,, a dog, clearly
Just what I was waiting for, Thanks Brian.
Another great video Brian!👍
Which filler can be used over paint? I have a few tiny bb dents.
Dam dude. I bought a paint gun and dent removal kit, I’m afraid to get started. If you removed the dents why did you send it and repaint?
Sand back and feather out factory paint...I bet I could see hard lines in your paint job
Man I like the “ don’t overthink it… it’s just paint” tssss
So much work when a good PDR guy could have knocked these dents out in less than an hour....
if i burn throuh the filler, is it ok to use 1K primer to isolate, or will the "selfetching primer" kill my 1K?
would love to see more of these rattle can spray guide rly..its not perfect or gonna be lasting as long as real paintjob, but its good enough for most of us that wanted to have some diy stuff to do..
Don't primer up to the tape edge... Oops. How do I fix that? And if the dent is on the door, do I need to paint the whole door?
Is that process done on a hood the same way for dings? I have a 91 deville Cadillac.
Could I spray my whole car with that primer before base and clear?
notice me where a buy sanding block im from philipines
Who in Washington does this in their garage? I Have some dents that need to be repaired.
We’ll…the title says “in your garage” but the entire process is professional quality. 🤷🏼♂️
That comment makes no sense
What I needed. Want more old school cars like this too.
Given, the sanding scratches/scuff; After, the Dent removal...
You did such a good job getting the dent out.. 6:09
I would of Glazed, spot primed(sand), paint & (alittle extra?)Clear coated it..
It Probably would of Dissappeared-- with alittle wet sanding. 😂😂
Instead of, grinding All the Paint Off. 8:10
Very helpful. When you applied the 2K primer, why didn't you spray the entire door, instead of just the dented area?
Because you only primer the affected areas
a good spray gun urethane primer is ready to sand in 45 minutes.
Great videos, but when i look at the price of some of these things, it makes no sense to me for something that i would probably only use once and then sits on a shelf. I could understand if you work in a bodyshop and working on car bodywork on a daily basis then sure, it would be great.
Those prototype blocks look a lot like Big Kid Blocks.
You catch me with that video Brian I didn’t even watch the time of it haha 😂 I thought 💭 you was going to sand the primer next thing the video end lol 😂 awesome 👏 repair you is a boss Brian keep it up much love!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏✊✊✊✊✊✊✊✊✊✊
And a nice product. How can i avail that product.
Or if you're using cardboard, just stick it on a ziploc bag. ❤
Can you do a new body style chevy impala?
you remind me of the guy that plays the hulk
Nooooo...the episode ended!!..😡...
Cant wait for the next one..Brian’s the body disaster fixer master!!...👍🏻
Hi Brian hope all is well . Just want to shot out to ya I do a little DIY’s in my garage an your ViIds for the last 5 to 10 years are very informative and helpful and doing the things I need to do and it’s very enjoyable to watch you do it in your own comfort of your own home keep up the great work and your successagain, hope all is well. Take care.
What really awesome about these videos is that he does repeat things that are done in other videos which really drives home importance of certain steps. Man you are great. You’ve made me more confident in my prep work

How would you go about fixing edge mapping after the primer is sprayed down? I ask because I thought i had featheredged properly but I can see some edge mapping underneath the urethane primer surfacer.
Should I start by removing the primer surfacer with 80 grit untill I reach the filler underneath and then fix the edge mapping and reapply filler over 80 grit scratches?
Love your videos!! Could you please make a video on health and safety of spraying and what type of mask to use for 2k paint??
dont over think it its just paint😁😁😁
You picked the absolute right car, in the right color for a DYI series. I've had 2 Hondas in Nighthawk black, clear damage and dents on both.
Shouldn't you use an epoxy primer before the body filler to prevent and rust ?
Hey I was looking for a way to contact you directly, but can you make a video of how to fix rock chips? I have a 911 and the front bumper has pretty bad road rash. I'm not sure if I need to remove all the paint and start over, or use a light filler over the entire bumper or what -- thanks and great videos!!
Can i ask...im just curious...dont get angry and laugh at me....but can this kit be used to pull without interfering with the paint job in other words not damaging the paint....thanks much
Do you need a primer under the filler ? Or?
I started following you not too long ago when you had just a couple 100 subscribers.. amazing you’ve come such a long way . Great work bro!! 🤜🏼🤛🏻
your at home car body work videos are very inspiring, on one part of the front of my hood of my car has a small dent and looks waving, I'm thinking of just using body filler, what you think? I wish I could show you
Hot glue doesn't dry. It cools.
Great videos i like
Hello, so many datasheet describe that Epoxy Primer apply direct to bare metal and in the same time, sikken for example guide in their painting procedure that body filler use in the repair area before epoxy primer, so it is only preference of the operator, or wrong if we apply epoxy primer before before body filler ? any advise ?
enjoy watching your videos and learn alot.
Glad you like them!
These spray can videos are the most relevant for me, and probably most viewers too, as I bet we all intend to use rattle cans, because buying a gun, a compression, hoses, vents, mixing paint etc is logistically and financially out of our league or redundant for future usage. So thank you Brian for understanding the common mans situation.
What kinda sanding block is that?
Brian great video... Making me feel better about working on my 95 Bronco...
Yea I'm just gonna pay someone.
Richard Dent aint got nothin' on You!
My car a dent in my car but it is more like a "memory" dent where you can pop it out but if you ligthly press it from inside in pops back in, how should i go fixing that?
Learned a lot with your video tutorials
If you live in apartment you can’t paint what is your suggestion?
Find a friend with a drive, hire a garage or storage unit, supermarket car park, paint it on the street and accept the funny looks, strip the car down and paint it panel by panel in your living room
Great video. How much harm will be done if you need to use the vehicle and if anything should be done before using, also what’s the next video in this line ?
Thanks
Wouldn’t worry about glaze coat until after priming, but great video!
Another great video! Soon I will be doing these same exact steps to repair the wife's car! Thanks!
Awesome !!
Nice vid, does the paint still shrink a few days later even when drying with an infrared lamp? Can it be worked after it’s cooled or still wait 2 days to sand? Many thanks
Great job, I would have been scuffing with my dye grinder or something, not that wonderful Eastwood sander. Good primer tips and great info as always!👍
Freezer paper has plastic on one side to mix filler on, then you can throw it away and get a fresh piece for next job.
Awesome video Brian, much Mahalos from Honolulu Hawaii!
Thank you Brian for all the videos, just finished my first full paint job on my restoration project using house of Kolor and it turned out amazing. What is a good source for finding good quality oem type paints for doing panel repairs? Thank you:)
Tell your buddy I’d like to purchase one of those blocks
Brian, check the description and send him an email
What stripper do you use that can actually strip paint. Wo the Methylene chloride, the strippers are pretty poor.
Like the eastwood contour tool.
It seems like, if you were going to grind the paint off, you may as well just used a stud gun and skipped the hot melt part.
Thanks Brian. I think the 800 helps the glue tabs stick to the panel better than when doing PDR. /John
What kind glove ?
I have 89 944 that needs some paint love in sfl, if you want to feature it on your channel.
Thank you for the awesome video . thanks to you now i could fix my own car...
Can you do a video on how to get a panel with rock chips ready to paint
Working from your own garage excellent THANKS Brian
