Thank you for this! I bought an injection head from someone on marketplace and couldn't figure out what was going wrong until I found out I was using an air injection valve, and not the regular, but I didn't have the money to buy another head unit. Thank goodness I found your video!
Just the video I've been looking for. I have 3 of these timers and 10 inch tank and now i will buy the birm and make a iron filter for a fraction of the price . Thanks 👍
Helpful video thanks! My Fleck 5600 is a 'metered' softener valve, are there any additional steps/parts required to use it as metered backwash filter? What's the correct GPM / DLFC washer for an 8 inch tank with Katalox Light media?
This video has been really helpful. Thanks. I still have a beginner question: does a (5600) backwash-only valve still need a drain line? My present neutralizer (that I'm replacing right now) has one attached, but I'm confused about why it would need to make wastewater. Isn't the backwash process in a filter valve only about 'fluffing up' the media occasionally? At what point in the cycle is it emptying out?
Your Neutralizer needs to backwash ( reverse flow from bottom to top ) to keep the media ( calcite in this case ) both clean and fluffed up - to prevent it from "caking" into a solid in your tank. So, a drain line is necessary, as the valve head should flush the water through the tank for around 15 minutes backwash and another 5 - 10 minutes "setting" rinse. Note the frequency of backwashing will depend on the quality of the water being treated. If you have a lot of iron in the water, you should backwash often ( very 2nd or 3rd night ). If not iron issues, you could backwash once every 6 days.
The water is BY PASSING the tank ( Carbon ) until it's Finished the Regeneration "process". Not until Final Rinse ( Settle Rinse ) is the water flowing Through the tank ( Carbon ) and filtering the water. And of course once valve is back "IN SERV" position.

This video is awesome! I inherited my fathers Water Treatment Service after he passed away before I got properly educated. Thank you greatly!

@@webelongtotheday2029 Thanks a bunch. Lots to figure out.
hello in the backwash cycle when in rinse mode does it filter the water ? i use media filter carbon only.

How much water does the 5600 consume during backwash of carbon?
Why would you need to change to "backwater only" in the first place. I guess I missed that part. Wouldn't the system be useless? Anybody?
I have a 3 tank Rainsoft system. Only 1 of 3 tanks uses the brine tank. The other 2 simply backwash without a brine tank.
