Wonka making $5.5M in its 10th week really helps put Madame Web's failure in perspective.
Even though it’s a Sony picture, Marvel’s reputation still suffers.
It's a Marvel movie
The whole superhero genre suffers
@@WilliamLamont82You're ignorant if you think this is a Marvel film
@@WilliamLamont82who distributed this film champ?
Nah nobody will care about this when they are laughing along to hilarious jokes during Deadpool 3
I think Madame Web absolutely killed it!.....It's killed the careers of everyone involved in making this movie.
I can't help but think of the outrage people felt about Batgirl being shelved and how the work of so many people wont be seen. Meanwhile Madam Web is being roasted back and forth, threatens the reputation of everyone involved and two different studios.
They probably actually saved the Batgirl people from the scrutiny and embarrassment that this, the flash, blue beetle, the marvels, etc has experienced
How it’s coming close to $100 million is the bizarre part of it.
Sony doesn’t care about quality. Hire crappy writers that are probably very cheap. They just are putting Spider-Man characters in a hat and picking them at random then proceed to make the cheapest movie they can to turn a quick profit.
I'm not sure anyone was putting Madame Web in the "tentpole" category.
This
When the commercials are better than the movie itself ☠️💀☠️💀☠️💀
With characters like Silver Sable, Prowler or even Black Cat who more naturally fit that anti-hero role but they decide to go with characters who are well established as Spider-Man villains.
Unfortunately, they do not really believe in the success of the Black Cat, considering her second only to Catwoman.
"if you take the responsibility, great power will come"......😂😂🤢🤢🤮🤮
Gonna wait for the re-release to see this one. Sony. Do yo thang!
I'm actually surprised it even made this much to be honest.
I think people would have much preferred a Spider-Gwen live action movie over this. Ride the hype of the animated movies into live action. Obviously the writing still needs to be good and the characters still need to be interesting, but it’s easier to get behind a movie if you’re familiar with the main character.
One thing will make this movie profitable. If teenagers start going to the theatre to heckle it.
That's it. Watching it just to make fun of it.
I think it’s pretty clear that the MCU’s downfall had a major effect on Madame Web /s
5:58 The drinking game comment made me laugh. Maybe in OUR time, fellow old man, but college students aren't hanging around watching cable television.
its budget was $80M...
No it was higher they said 100+
So I went and finally saw Madame Web and I think my extremely low expectations helped because I did not mind it. Is it a good film? Absolutely not but I enjoyed laughing at the dialogue lol the chemistry of the actresses. And honestly the scene with Madame Web and her mum actually made me cry. I think this could become a cult film which I'm all for.
I’ll never understand this presumptive idea that a movie deserves an audience by virtue of existing, then the shock when reality hits. People will not waste their time on crap. Never have, never will.
With the exception of Madame Webb, Sony has mostly tried to make "heroes" out of villians in a "spidey universe" where spiderman may be or maybe not around and apparently they're not speeding things up to bring him in, so from a writing point of view how you make movies that can be good and successful at the same time? I mean, the venom movies were successful and fun, but are they good movies? I really don't think so 🤷🏻♂️. And from what I've seen they're putting much effort to make some changes, they're basically sabotaging themselves
Surprised? - No
Happy? - Yes
it's webbin time
This movie will not reach $100M, no way it can. It won't break $45M domestic at it's current pace.
Kraven's Last Hunt is great but without a Spider-Man and without Kraven established, the story would have no weight.
Thank you for mentioning Kraven's Last Hunt. That is the best comic story ever, in my opinion. By looking at what is being released, I have no desire to see them touch that story.
Why didn’t women support this movie?
Because it sucked.Women don't also want to see trash just because it has a female lead.I'm a woman and a told sll my friends it's not worth to see it.
After what happened to a bunch of superhero comic book based films in 2023 that were better received than Madame Web, I'm not surprised at all it might not break a 100 million
Will it stop Sony from making more? Nope!
How many Razzie noms do you think it'll end up getting? Looks like they went all in for this one!
I wonder if Dakota will be as classy and as cool as Halley Barry was,and go and take that award.
$77 million seems like waaaay too much!
I can’t help but wonder that once Venom 3 and Kraven the Hunter come out, what will Sony do from then on? Will they continue to build on this Cinematic Universe if these films do well, okay or terrible like Madame Web and Morbius? Or will they just throw in the towel and just focus on the Animated Spider-Verse Films?
Can't believe it made any money at all.
@Comicbookfanboy22 true
Dang at the very least they should've added cool fight scenes😂😂😂
So it will hit maybe 50% of its production costs. Not great but not bad. It’s good they didn’t spend like $200m which has been the norm lately for Superhero films.
they still spent 6x the budget of Godzilla -1 for it
No it is very bad.
I've got to the point to think Sony doesn't even care about loosing money with these films or even reconsidering to make them better.
One has to wonder if Sony would ever have the you know to pull a movie before release and use it as a tax writeoff. All those we want to see Batgirl movie people all need to see what is happening to this movie. Sony quite literally went we don't give a damn.
Madame Web has a production budget of $80M and will struggle to reach a box office of $100M. The Marvels had a budget of almost $300M and made only $200M. The Marvels also had a larger marketing budget, with much more hype (since it was a Captain Marvel movie and the third most expensive MCU movie ever).
*Yeah, The Marvels was a bigger flop.* 😆💥
But is double the movie, its actually fun and worth a watch
When I went last Thursday afternoon, me and my friend were the only ones in the theater. Our commentary during the film was more entertaining than the film itself.
I was honestly going to go see this movie but on the way to the theatre I got lost and ended up in the Amazon with your mom researching spiders.
With Sydney Sweeney hosting on SNL, how could she promote the movie in a way that will get them back to theaters? Maybe nothing, I don’t know, but the writers on the NBC show could be cooking. The budget for this movie could be possibly between $200-250 million, after doing some researching. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and the marketing team should’ve done better in aiming towards an unusual take in the trailer and promos, where the actresses paused the trailer, and told the audience to be ready for the best and the worst. 😅
@@festo512 I’m not the only one, so that’ll suffice. Power to you, then.
Dune: Part Two is going to chew this movie up and turn it into spice.
Sony has to keep making Spider-verse films or the rights will go back to Disney. These betweener movies are just to buy time for the real spider-man film to develop.
No they have to make one every couple years. But at the moment they have more them enough spider man movies . They are going for cash. And they don’t care
If they strategically lose small or draw flat on madame web & morbious, gives them time to make it up 10x with billion dollar spider-man or a surprise like venom. They will do this forever.
Doesn't f** matter! It's not an excuse to release crap... I'm not even gonna see spider man 4. They will f us up...
This marvel movie 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
It’s crazy how one week we got the worst movie ever made… next week we got the great west movie ever made ! Balance is right again
I hope it DOESN'T break 100mil! Sony needs to learn that this BS will not be tolerated. It's completely unacceptable that they think they can continue to create and release stuff on this level and be able to make money off of it.
WOW... (in Owen Wilson voice)
When it comes to recent Marvel movie that's flop, I thought no movie can ever top Morbius and The Marvels. Madame Web is currently takes the cake...
Marvel Studios and Sony are reportedly planning on including Miles Morales in ‘SPIDER-MAN 4’.
No one cares anymore Disney / Marvel / Sony is done.
We don't care about a cameo if the movie or TV show is trash.
It's almost past the point of no return where trying to bait people with cameos isn't going to work.
@DJ.Generation Exactly! These movies stopped being about story and started to be about cameos. I fell for the No way Home hype and went to the theater only to be extremely disappointed by a mediocre movie.
The two studios are fighting over what and how that movie will even be.
Amy pascal gotta go it’s her fault 💯
Madame Web is one of those movies everyone is going to watch when it hits streaming, if only to see what all the fuss was.
I’m surprise it pass 50 million mark
No wonder Sony wants to make another spiderman movie with Tom, Toby and Andrew. They want to make up for all the money lost of the past movies.
Yooooo im so hyped! I really hope we get the trilogy we were promised
this movie was made just to maintain the rights to spider-man being its in there contract license agreement they made with marvel, so they may lost money but they won on keeping spider-man period, spider-man isnt coming back to marvel
If that were true they would’ve made a cheap streaming movie for 1 or 2 million with a bunch of no name actors.
@@Cuban-J The contract specifies that there is a minimum amount of revenue each movie must generate, as part of it goes to Marvel.
@@alexcosta2614 that doesnt sound real. no one can guarantee an amount of revenue. They might agree to a percentage of the revenue but not a set number.
@@Cuban-J Actually it makes sense. Otherwise Sony and the others could just make cheap straight to DVD movies with a budget of 10.000 USD and keep the licenses for ever.
That is why the Blade rights returned to Marvel, as the studio could not guarantee that another Blade or Daredevil movie would generate enough revenue to fullfil the contract. So they opted to not make more movies.
When is available on video on demand, I hope I can enjoy this low expectation movie as I can’t really expect
it to be any good?
What was the budget?
The budget is 80 million dollars
Apparently some cotton lent and a few tooth picks.
I feel like they didnt do a good job at marketing i didnt know this movie existed until like a month before release
Madame web shouldn't be on rotten tomatoes it should be in rotten eggs
Ok, yeah, well, Sony just should of said he'll no to this character getting her own movie first off. Movie Companies that do these types of movies really should have comic book writers, to write the movie. Comic books are different than film, if you don't write what we are used to, what we have read, some of the great storylines we all fell in love with, then don't expect a great turnout. Use some of the great stories that are from the books or rewrite to make your own (unfortunately you made your own and it sucks!) Companies really need to speak to or have everyday people on the job that loves these types of movies, because only then will they really be great! P.S. I would of wrote a better movie than any of these MARVEL films that Sony has done! Sorry, not sorry, the truth hurts.
It is now $100 million.
Dookie movie tho
I’m confused that they’re describing this as a “major, tent pole” comic book movie. I’d be surprised if 10% of people had ever heard of this character before. This feels more like Darkman with Liam Neeson back in the day, except that was entertaining.
so why make a movie about a character no one has ever heard of? can't wait for Aunt May movie
@festo512 well on paper, yeh.
Unknown characters can be a chance to hit it out of the park because they come with zero baggage. But then you have to know your stuff to make it good.
Plus Guardians was part of overall picture, this movie bait and switched.
Hard to believe Madame Web made that much at the box office. But people did go see the movie just to see how bad it is just out of curiosity.
I Mean i tought it woud have far less of a Drop. Plus it opens in China this weekend. So maxbe it goes up to 100 Milion one day. But yeah i dont think much more then 100 Million!
China stopped saving bad movies after the pandemic. A flop in the US is also a flop in China now. Seems like Chinese now care about US reviews
Maybe people are getting... fatigued?
"major"
Women ☕️
I understand it's a horrible movie, but people go by other opinions far to much. If there wasn't so many negative videos out there about the movie I believe it would have made more regardless of how horrible it really is. I don't care if you think a bad movie doesn't deserve to make money. Let people find out for themselves lol.
Can someone tell me how this movie is? A feminist movie or another another word that rhymes with poke
It’s neither. It’s just a bad movie.
This is a crying shame, a movie this awesomely terrible deserves to make more, I’m not kidding when I say that this movie along with Night Swim and Beekeeper were the best guilty pleasure movies I’ve seen in years, I was dying laughing at just how shitty this movie is, so please people, please go out and support this amazing disasterpiece
No, I got suckered with The Marvels. Never again. Not gonna get me with Madame Web. Lol. I'd rather go and bring sweet Democracy to some automaton planets as a Helldiver.
Madam Web and The Marvels are were soapy and episodic, no way they were going to be the least bit decent in cinema
miles could appear in Spider-Man 4
Who cares?
Catwoman is better than Madame web.
poathetic
Far better than what Tank Girl and Barb Wire did.
lol barbwire was atrocious!
Did you account for inflation? 1 million dollars then was considered a lot of money in Hollywood.
Marvel and DC competing for delivering the least successful movie ever.
Who signed off on this flaming turd of a movie lol
the fact this movie might be worse than the flash scares me. as a side note this movie feels like Sony's birds of prey.
Birds of Prey is far better
The flash is great, nerd
It's way worse than The Flash, I would say even Catwoman is probably better. It basically has no superhero action, all the Spider-Women stuff you see in the trailer is just a short dream sequence. This is like Superman 4 Quest for Peace level of bad.
I can now say..Birds of Prey is the worst DCU movie I've ever saw,and Madam Web is the worst Sony cb movie I ever saw.
@@user-nw3jl4mm6v I would say Wonder Woman 1984 is the worst DCU movie imo
The Marvels and Madame Web continue Marvel's run of garbage.
Marvel did not make Madame Web
@@greygorthegoateedgeek5350 It's literally produced by Marvel Entertainment.
@@WilliamLamont82Having your name in the Production listings means nothing if its paid for by Sony, everyone involved is hired by Sony, you have no say in the story and you receive nothing from the profits. Spider-Man 2002 has Marvel Enterprises has a listed Production company, but like Madame Web its in name only. Marvel sold the rights to Spider-Man and associated characters to Sony,
For once, i get why Ray fell asleep.
your opinons are a joke, you have zero credibility, lol.
Why don't we creat superhero movies epic and big scail like Dune 2. We kind off had that during the beginning of marval and end of end game. But not all movie but at least we had that somewhat in some movie. ❤❤❤❤❤
Call me crazy... kraven looks cool
